I hope to get into a hospital pharmacy Technician program one day....thanx for the videos. The laminar hood compounding I thought would be intimidating..but you make me feel like it's something I could do too....ty...🙂

I got SO lucky. My college program did not offer a hospital rotation but I still got hired after graduation at a GREAT hospital. They IV certed me..and I like to do the OR shifts at night...It was the quality of my resume, even though it was lacking experience. I applied to all the hospitals and they all called me back. They all were looking for that good fit for the team, not necessarily lack of experience. I blasted out the math stuff too though ;) I LOVE WORKING in the hospital. It seems a little more like my hospital is acute emergency and ICU stuff though... and the heart hospital next door... I do get sad when I bring a crash cart to a code and the person dies... and then I fill the same cart again later that day. Or when I go up to an OR floor (we have 3 floors full of them) and I have to skip one of the rooms because its a total blood bath going on in there. Once one of the nurses came to grab me because they were dissecting a cadaver and I was invited to watch through the windows (no thank yoU!). Our IV clean room is much more strict than yours though. Next is the Chemo IV room. Its only been about 6 weeks in but I am absolutely loving it.

🤩🤩🤩THATS AMAZING!!! how is working OR at night? And wow yea our work is pretty much the same ❤️I went there last weekend I’m just prn, but it was better sweet making IVs again and refilling the Pyxis. So happy you’re loving it 🥰😍

Lmfao , nurses have very dark humor like that, I used to work in the SPD area and an OR Nurse came out holding a white plastic cup kind of like what you get pho noodles in, and she asked me “hey we just amputated a patients foot, you wanna see!?” So I was like hell yeah! It was indeed a disembodied foot and still had nail polish on the toes, gnarliest night I had in a while 😂

Good content. I’m starting my pharmacy tech class next month and bit nervous on job market. I already work at hospital at night as CNA but looking go Dayshift and have set hours. I know retail job easier to get but the hours be all over the place. Once I complete my program I plan apply to several positions as you stated in video even if PRN because worst thing that could happen is them saying NO so I will keep pushing. Im intrigued to see different side of healthcare in general.

That’s exciting girly!!! Wishing you the best. 😀 Yea retail are mainly always hiring for pharmacy Technicians because of how busy they get! I agree it’s easier to get a job at a retail pharmacy but girl yes ithe schedule will not be set, unless you ask prior to being hired and have a chill pharmacist manager lol. I’m the same way I want to learn and see all types of different pharmacies and learn what all pharmacy technicians can do 💛

Very helpful and interesting to see how people work in other country. I've worked 9 year on retail pharmacy, on french guiana. I'm bored 😒, in september i'm going to work in hospital... Little bit afraid because its totally different but 💪💪💪 And you earn more money !!😄 So can't compare

Oh this video is great thanks for sharing this video dear, my daughter is a Pharmacy Technician and she works at CVS Pharmacy in Retail, she's been working for 9 months, she even got employee of the month, but she is so interested in Hospital Pharmacy Tech, I will have her watch your videos, they are so helpful, and you're helping so many others God Bless you Dear💖

I've been working as a pharmacy tech trainee for almost two months and am learning SO MUCH! but my goal is to work in the hospital, a base, or delivery way down the road! I work at Walgreens and they pay for my tech classes and testing and exam! 🙌🏽 BUT even though we learn about compounding we dont do it :( But walgreens is best if you dont want to spend money on tuition and prefer on the job training

Yea I definitely wish I knew about on the job training because you get paid as you study 🙌🏾🙌🏾 like who wouldn’t want that haha The only part for me was the compounding like you said but girl whatever job you go for they will train you so no worries 😉 How long was your classes at Walgreens?

@@ItsDricaaa I was mock training for a good 3 weeks before they put me in the pharmacy 😂 but so glad they did. and next month is when I'll be going to school once a week for 8 hrs, I think 5 or 6 weeks then I have to take the Tech exam! They pay for 3 tries and then after that, I'm on my own 😭 I hope I pass the first try! But yes! I was looking for a way to not have to pay for tuition and go to school and noticed walgreens and CVS both do on the job training and pay for to become a tech!

@@ItsDricaaa here I'm paid 15$ as a pharmacy cashier/tech in training and then it gets bumped to 17.50 an hour (.50 increase every 6 month or a year, depending on how much you grow). But goal is definitely to move on after a year or two because hospital starting is 22.50$ am hr!

Carla TV OMG I lOVE THAT!! Wow I did not know Walgreens offers that. I know Walmart you would do a online class while at work and that’s it. That’s great they pay for 3 tries too, and you got this girly 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 what state do you live at because your hospital pay is a lot 😫😭wish I had that lol

Thanks for this video because I want a job in a hospital pharmacy I am in college about it right now and finish in august I always wanted to be a pharmacy technician but until I moved to north carolina I didn't know where to go to school for it

Girls I want to move to NC so bad lol but thank you!! I recommend going on the PTCB website they have links to show you accredited programs in your area :D but that's exciting, also most retail pharmacies have training programs you could do for free and work at the same time.

I just started working at the Walmart pharmacy here in NC 3 months ago. I haven’t taken my exam yet but as far as my goals I plan on staying with my current job for 1-2 years just to build up my experience and then move to a hospital and hopefully the hospital on the army base here or the VA. My question is what the pay difference is between retail vs hospital with certification?

Keshia Rogers that’s great! I worked at Walmart to build up my job experience too. The army base and VA are my job goals but it’s very hard getting in though. The pay difference between retail and hospital being certified for me wasn’t a huge difference I gained almost $2 more

I did online classes for pharmacy through military so no lab experience! Is that against me. Every-time I came across something I’ve search videos on it. Like sterile compounding, filling capsules, suppository’s. Lol! I was CNA certified and had extensive training in terminology. And worked as a dr assistant at a optometrist office. I have a hospital interview next week and nervous!!! 😱

Hey hey!! So I don’t think that’s against you at all. It’s definitely great that you been watching videos so you understand some things then not knowing anything! Knowing terminology is a plus. Yay!! You’re in my prayers I hope your interview goes great. Being nervous is totally normal but don’t let that ruin your interview! You got this 😀🙌🏾. One tip is I love to prep myself before my interview and go over practice questions.

I just got hired at the hospital as an inpatient pharmacy tech and have been watching all your videos! They’ve been so helpful :) they hired me even though I don’t have any pharmacy tech experience. Do you think it’s important to start in retail? I’m a little nervous but I think this will teach me a lot. Thanks for the videos!

YAY!!! Congrats girly hehe, oh no you'll do great! My opinion starting off in the hospital is better, you will have a lot of experience most jobs would want you to have and some hospitals have outpatient so you may be able to get that customer service experience. I hope you find to love it :D hehe keep me updated!!!

My pharmacy tech program doesn’t do hospital clinical rotations. Just whatever local pharmacy externship is available.. does that mean i won’t be able to work in the hospital because I don’t have hospital experience?

Ooh of course not! A lot of hospital pharmacies hire technicians with no experience.

Hello! Aww thank you so much for supporting me, I’m so happy my videos have been helpful. So I enjoy working both hospital and retail, but I rather work hospital. I love making IV’s and just everything I do at my hospital job and don’t have to deal with customers. I would see if you can volunteer at a hospital before applying, I knew I would love it because while I was in school I had three hospital clinical sites. Hope this was helpful!

I have a question I know you mentioned it in the video but I just want to be clarified first off I'm getting a job in the hospital if I take the job it will be my first Pharmacy hospital job but its far from my house if I take it and work there for 6 months will I be able to get a job in another hospital anywhere else with 6 months hospital experience or I need maximum one year hospital?

Hey hey, in the video I believe I said 6 months experience as a retail pharmacy technician to work in the hospital. But to move hospital to hospital 6 months is enough in my opinion! If it was me I would do 6 months and either transfer out or move to a different hospital. It’s enough experience and new things you can add to your resume also they should understand you transferring to a closer location. 😊😄

My community college offer online program. When you finish the program you can go hospital as externship is it something like that. I wanna do in penn foster. Which is little cheaper than community college. Which is better you think???

Hey techie! It depends if that program offers externship and has a contract with the hospital or retail pharmacy. I see that Penn Foster program is partnered with CVS and Walgreens and has 1 externship. Which is great you would get an insight of what retail pharmacy technicians do😀. Definitely make sure the community college is accredited! I recommend seeing how long each program is and course curriculum and see if that works with your daily schedule.

I took classes online in 2012 took test and failed. I was 77 points away. I gave up now I’m just doing book work to study. Is this ok🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Omg girly don’t give up!! I know how it feels to fail the first time because I did too I’m not sure how many points away but it wasn’t much like yours. But one thing about failing is it helps you prepare for the next time you take the exam🤗 what part of the exam are you studying for now and what part do you have down pack? Also do you know the content of the exam changed?

Hi Dricaaa I’m in compounding right now. I know I need to work on calculations more. Math is my worst subject😭. I’m worried bc I didn’t have lab in studies. So I’m watching videos on everything after I read it in the book then move to next and same thing. It’s slowing me down but it’s what I have to do.🤷‍♀️. You have given me encouragement as it gets stressful trying to read and grasp it. I even downloaded a application to test me. I’m hoping in a few month to schedule for exam. I will keep you posted. Your videos cheer me up bc it’s something I want to do!!!! I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m crying at the moment but tear of joy!!! Kristen Harrison Omg don’t cry 😭 YOU GOT THIS GIRLY💛💛💛 my heart is racing awww I’m so happy I can do that for you. KZfaq is such a different platform and I’m trying so hard to help and inspire people really makes me happy that I’m doing so because some days I feel like I’m not. But girly you are on the right track no more stressing keep studying at your own paste because you definitely don’t wanna work yourself up and over study or stress to the point you forget what your studying! I know exactly how you feel because I was at that point. So I wrote down the topics I really need to study and what I’m struggling with to understand then what topics I’m good at and probably just need to reread on and go from there. But yea the practice test are great to do!

I do have a friend that’s in the pharmacy at the hospital and she said she had a job for me after I pass the exam. I think I will work in retail first to learn. 🤞
