Word to the wise. When youre drilling a hole with the impact, once the bit gets through the pole - if you flip the impact in reverse and hold the gun from being pushed back - youll clean out the hole and send all the chips out the back of the pole instead of towards you.

Excellent video! I appreciate the minimal talking, I prefer to just see you work. I spent about 8 years as a groundhand/driver and was lucky enough to have a great lineman who was willing to share his knowledge and allow me some time in the bucket, as well as a few pole climbs. Thank you for the job you do, I know it’s rarely easy but your work is appreciated!

Nice job. I've worked for Eustis. A couple of things I noticed, not finding fault nut a broken latch on the carabiner invites trouble and an automatic instead of a preform puts the bare strand right in front of you instead of fighting with the preform making life difficult. Nice job tho,pleasure watching

Get the cdl and after that, look at an in-house job. Look up communications contractors near you.

Depending on where you live - If your telephone company is union - apply there as soon as possible. If you have to wait until they are hiring, you can still put an application in and leave it on file and you can get a job with any fiber contractor in the meantime. You’ll get some experience, pretty much guarantee youll get hired at the phone company when they are looking, and start with them at a higher scale then bottom pay. Even if its a pay cut to move over to them (i doubt it will be), take it. Even if its a job opening for something other than line - you TAKE IT.. Whatever they are hiring for - YOU TAKE IT - you get your foot in the door into a (hopefully) large company (ya know, a career - not just a job) and you do whatever you have to, to get in - and then wait for an opening to transfer to LIne, or Fiber Splicing. You’ll see two completely different worlds between working for a contractor and working the union side. It’ll be like going on vacation and getting paid more for doing less. This way hopefully by the time youre 50, you wont be walking around like a cripple. Notice how most contractors dont have 40 and 50 yr olds working out in the field? Theres a reason for that.

Just apply to a local cable company. Installers still gaff and it’s a way to get your foot in the door. Bust your ass and work your way up. Turnover is usually high so you can move up pretty quick. I’ve been with my company for less and 2 years and I just got a bucket the other day. I don’t think there’s schools for this specific line of work. You could go to lineman school but at that point just become an electrical lineman and you’ll make a lot more money haha. Most internet providers have classes you take as you go and train you how to climb. Its usually a learn as you go type of thing. To be honest they’ll hire just about anyone as long as you’re willing to do the work.

There is no apprenticeship for telecommunications go to northwest for power lineman school
@TheGSoutherland
@TheGSoutherland 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisstover1877 I don't think that's true as there are companies hiring for that exact thing. I understand there is a negative stigma surrounding those "lower on the pole" then others...I don't think I would need to leave my area after school for tele where as power I would need to find somewhere away from home to get my foot in the door from what I've read. Are you a electrical lineman and how did you get your start? Thanks for the comment.

I’m going to SLTC in August. What companies hire Doing This/What companies pay the most out of school
@linelife6859
@linelife6859 4 жыл бұрын
Well it really depends what you want to do in the future, if your goal is to work for the power company then I would suggest getting into the Union, if you want to be a communications lineman then there are a lot of options out there that will all probably pay around the same depending on the size, they all like to see some experience with climbing which is where SLTC will help a lot.

@@jaylooker6370 So my advice would be to try to get in with the local phone company as a lineman if there is a spot available, probably would start out right around 18-20 an hour. Perks of this job would be staying local.
