You’re investing in yourself, if you work in the NHS as a doctor or a physicians associate then you’ll be earning a wage, student loans get paid back when you’re earning at a low rate. What I would say is key as a mother of a training medical professional is do you really want it? The studying is hard and you have to be motivated and a good support system as in your family, friends around you at uni are important for those times you question wtf am I doing or this is hard. Don’t underestimate yourself is what I told my son, the only person who’s telling you you can’t do it is you! If it’s what you want to do then go for it....you’ll love it!

Hi Jonathan! Most will go to uni at 18, 5 or 6 years at medical school. Once graduated there is a steady increase in responsibilities over the years.

After med school. Foundation year 1 doctor. Then foundation yr 2. Then trainee - 6 years to become a consultant and you do different rotations in other specialities plus exams along the way. It's a tough road with a lot of sacrifice.

There are ups and downs but there is definitely flexibility and lots of people work less than full time

Its just the rules we have to follow
