Every once in a while I pick up shifts on a med surg unit for a change in scenery. In this video, I worked on a med surg unit, had 3 chronic vent patients and 1 trach collar patient. It was a hectic day.

It's so funny because you give us the real tea on what it is like to be a nurse but then you are smiling so deeply when you are with your patients. It's so interesting to see that you really love the job and give it your best, you're always talking about improving.

You are so inspiring I am a tech currently in school for nursing I wanted to give up just because the nurses are so nasty they refuse to help a tech which is just sad I have left many day in tears😢 I will keep going I’m built for this ❤

❤❤❤❤❤ I feel your pain. I don't stop from 0630 to 1915. No breaks. We had 5 techs show they floated 4. Left me with 53 patients... I do not complain. Ladies can we please build each other up?!?! ❤😢❤😢❤ I am leaving.. I need to finish school.. Keep fight the good fight.. You are amazing! Take care of you.

I stumbled across your channel a couple of weeks ago. I really love your whole demeanor and outlook on the nursing profession. I am currently waiting to get in the accelerated nursing program for BSN. I love the way you stand up for yourself and don't take any smack from the other race. We need more nurses like you. Keep doing what your're doing and keep putting out content.

We have 6 patients and I'm so ready to move on from med surg. They don't nearly have as much help as they need. When that happens we have to do everything for everyone. It's so unrealistic for one person to do, it's overwhelming and stressful.

It’s so hard! Every time I work up there, I’m amazed with how the nurses push through. Med surg is definitely not for the weak. ICU is so much easier.

@@KendraRN I shadowed the GE lab and it's something I could do and the hours are better. I think each shift has it's pros and cons to it. I need something that's not as hard on the body, and I'm not trying to always work nights.

Hi Kendra, I am new to your channel and I must say I like you. I like your tenacity and they way you stand up for yourself. I am not a nurse, but I am aware of work force bullying. In my opinion you should right a book for beginner nurses or beginner ICU nurses. Love your channel and your content. Tyfs and peace and blessings over you until next time. 🥰

Whoa 3 vents!? Sounds more like a step down unit and pretty heavy for med-surg. Most med-surg units I’ve worked on have no vents, mostly walkie talkies. Or if they do have vents you only get one vent and 4 ambulatory patients. Hope they weren’t trying to give you a heavy assignment on purpose! Cool vlog

Things have gotten harder, increased ratios and the patients are sicker. Yes 3 vents on a medsurg unit.

So Kendra, are you at soul a floor nurse or a critical care nurse? What is your preference? You are a beautiful soul and born for this work. You obviously love it. God bless you for taking such pride in it and taking care of people in need.

Same. I work as a cna in a SNF and the few times that OT have assisted with a shower is a HUGE relief! Yesterday, I was finally sitting doing my last of my charting at about 15mins til clock out time. The nurse tells me, "Mariah, 3-1 needs a blanket," and she sees that I'm charting my last round. Wtf? You're standing doing nothing, PLUS, a new CNA was already assigned. Smh. The nurses I work with don't do a damn thing to help out and it puts so much stress on us cnas.

Madam Kendra. May I suggest you keep your hair attached? It keeps from you accidentaly contaminating yourself and sterile field and is out of the way if doing chest compressions or dressings and if patient "suprises" you with batshit psychosis (and you touch hair that might put NAMD "nosocomial agents of mass destruction" on yourself). I am old school on this as I don't believe in nail polish while working and keep nails at a sensible length, the rationale being knowing how clean they are if there is debris still under the fingernails. Also, I would like to know how you takes notes for later documentation? I've seen taking cellphone or tablet to record, photo, and audio the stuff that will later be put on the computer charting or normal patient charting.
