Aw man Simon I relate HEAVY to the disliking water in my eyes thing. Baths were a tough thing with it for me for a while and even now I can’t shower without a towel in reach to wipe my eyes. I know he’s too young to be thinking about going under water, but he might enjoy the water slides at the pool even more if you got him a pair of goggles to wear.

It is so endearing to see how you interact with the boys. I am that way with my 5 yr old grandson. He is my baby. We are in the middle of trying to potty train him and let me tell you, thank God for patience. But it’s okay. He is starting kindergarten tomorrow and I am wondering how he will handle it. He was in preschool the last year and he went half the day. He isn’t to happy about leaving the playground either. I love how the other kiddies interact with their brothers. We love having pools never had a pool. Because my grandfather didn't know how to swim. So we never got a pool in my basement too. And a lot of the kids wanted to go inside. And but a lot of times I let my nephew watch the kids if they want to go downstairs. Cause I like being outside especially in this muggy heat. All my nieces and nephews, all my friends. We all know how to swim very well. And that's all we did. We've used the potty and swim all day long. That's, I'm trying to break the app. But we had a party today for a little kid with autism

How do you get your boys to try something new? Food, beds, etc.! Would you consider doing a video on this? It would be so helpful for new moms to this!
@7Aheadfamily
@7Aheadfamily 10 ай бұрын
Yes, we will put that on our video list. 😊 We don’t always do the best with this, but in hindsight, slower transitions, and working up to things really make a big difference. As you can see in this bad episode we thought, Ezra would love the bed, but, he definitely wasn’t super excited at first. 😊. We should have done a slower transition, and I think that is one of the biggest keys to helping them do new things. Also, our kids got used to a lot of new things when we were traveling full-time in the RV to all the national parks, so I think that helped.

Wow that is some kind of Harry Potter magic the way your husband managed to hold the phone (let alone your son) and it stay dry. Seriously impressive - I know better than to test my co-ordination…or lack thereof, call me paranoid but if we go anywhere near a pool or down to the marina…let alone a puddle on a rainy day my phone goes straight into my zipped bag haha. If there’s any chance of it falling in the water, knowing my luck it would. When my now 7 y.o. daughter was younger, she dropped it in her potty. 😐

Thank you for sharing your family with us! Takes courage and a sense of confidence to do what you do everyday! I know how unwelcome other people's advice can be and I hope not to be that in this moment. My experience with ADHD/Asperger's is rather dated, since me son is now old enough to have his own family with kids older than yours (also ASD/ Asperger's) -- it should be acknowledged that if you know one kid with autism, you know one kid with autism ;-) I wanted to share with you two of my little helpers in case it may be useful to you. The first is The Feingold Diet. Changed my son's life, but as a single parent with needing help from sitters and family for babysitting (old term), it was difficult to do it 100%. When I could have him on it regularly, there were some real changes to triggers and behaviors. The other is the author Temple Grandin who was a non-verbal autistic and was able to develop her own devices to calm herself eventually allowing her to get her Phd. There is a movie (2010) about her and her book is called Thinking in Pictures (I think). One thing she did while still young, with the help of her mother, she saw a specialist who used a combination of sounds, rhythm patterns, etc. that helped retrain her brain. I apologize for being one more voice! I think you and and your family are amazing! You have done so much and it, while it's hard to see sometimes, you are creating a great life for your entire family. Bless you all!
@7Aheadfamily
@7Aheadfamily 10 ай бұрын
Wow! You have so much wisdom. I am aware of Temple, she’s awesome, but new to the diet that you mentioned. So I’ll look that up. Thank you for sharing and for your kind worlds. ❤️
@mercy3219
@mercy3219 10 ай бұрын
@@7Aheadfamily You go girl! And, you go family! Please Note: Within Temple's book is the reference for the sound therapy doctor in France... he's probably no longer around, but his therapy is. It has been credited with huge changes as it is using sound waves at different frequencies and sometimes multiple waves at the same time to teach the brain how to deal with sound -- to sort it out. We used it with our son when he was very young and, while his world isn't perfect and there are still areas where he lacks flexibility or simply can't get what is being said -- too much background noise I suspect -- he managed to find he could be rather charming. He is a Regional Manager at a Fortune 100 company. At age 13, I was told that he had a 20% chance of being able to survive on his own -- with some assistance. Keep up what your doing and, please know that your prayers have answers: yes, no, and wait (my favorite idea about that❤️‍🩹♥️💝

I used to play with my moms hair just like Simon does. Although, I wasn't diagnosed back then, it's now clear to me that was a stim that helped me regulate myself. I still do this stim, just a little bit different. I let my hair grow a little bit to have it slightly long on my forehead. This allows me to still have a short haircut on the rest of my head (I get overstimulated by my own hair if the rest of my head get too long) while still having some hair long enough for me to stim with it and rub it on my forehead. Now that I'm older, I also grow my beard just so that I can use it to stim (in my case, this does require me to wash my beard every single day since it gets really greasy due to how much I stim with it)

My three older kids have responsibilities and chores, but they do have fun stuff too. Mark plays the piano, and takes lessons, and he is going to start singing lessons. Mark also plays with his friends all the time, and on Tuesday nights does church activities with his friends. Benson’s loves parkour. He goes to the trampoline extreme air sports place twice a week with his dad and works on his flips and he loves Minecraft and he plays with his friends about three times a week, Marie plays a lot with friends since she doesn’t have a sister, she goes to her friends’ houses quite often, and she also plays piano and takes tap lessons. Mark loves to read and it is currently on the second book of “way of kings” by Brandon Sanderson. Marie loves to read right now and is waiting to go to the library to pick up the eighth book of “the keeper of the lost cities”, book series.

We should do another video on that soon. 😊 We have a video coming out tomorrow morning on ABA which talks a little bit about this and the doctor gives an example as well.

i dont like and aggree with how you call it mild and server as no autism is mild or server they are all diffrent we all need support but diffrent so please stop calling it mild cause to us the ones with autism dont feel like we need less support or dont strrugle as much just cause we dont act the same as non verble autistic people
@7Aheadfamily

You're right. With two kids who are Autistic, I feel it's weird to call them both Autistic since they’re so different from each other. Simon understands most things I say, but Ezra, not so much. Even though you are correct. I wish there were appropriate clarifying words to describe how Autism effects each of them. But there isn't, so I guess that's why people play around with unofficial words, like "Light" Autism or "mild" Autism. I don't know, I don't like saying that my son, Ezra has "Severe" Autism, but when people ask where is he on the Spectrum I feel I have to give them a full ten page report on his diagnosis, when, honestly I don't want to. What do you think? Are there any words that you say to describe Autism? Or do you like to keep it simple with that one word?
