A full night from Rise to rest in my life as a FIFO HD mechanic.
I do big swings away minimum 4 weeks at a time in the Pilbara some of the most remote harshest climate mines in the world.
Enjoy the journey a day in the life.

Edit** steering rods come of the “dog bone”/steer link, the cylinders go to the steer arms on the pinion on each wheel.

@@zoecropley7780 I don’t know many, if any companies that do fifo apprenticeships but if you get one that’s amazing! Jump on seek and have a look at the huge wage difference between QLD Bowen basin wages compared to Pilbara, headland, Karratha and gold fields. You don’t have your best Perth based once a trades person to work here either. (I’m not it just appears that way cause of the massive swings and the way I live my life. (I don’t rent or have a place in Perth) Perth is a beautiful city though and WA is definitely a state to be explored as you will see in my other vids 😊

Great video mate. I’m wanting to become a FIFO diesel mechanic. Should I complete my cert 3 at a local truck shop, then apply for fifo? Or is it possible to do an apprenticeship through the mines? What happens with tools if you are FIFO? Are there lockers? Cheers

You seem to know what you are doing. Looks like a good outfit to work for. As per the heat out there, in some zones and safety boots, ever heard of Chelsea dealer boots? Slip on heavy heavy duty boots, no laces. They are waterproof leather and take a hell of a hard pasting. People rub raw candlewax on them to protect them even further.

If I didn’t know what I was doing I wouldn’t be getting paid the money I get nor would I be up here 😎. The company is great to work for, extremely flexible I can work as much or as little as I like (literally just did 7 weeks straight no day of by choice) As for the boots definitely know of them being Aussie, RM and Blundstone are very popular here. However it is required we wear zipside 6” boots, reason being Incase of a foot injury just unzip and remove no need to cut and the ankle support as there is so much uneven ground out here.
@federalnoise
@federalnoise Ай бұрын
@@Fenndog Blundstones are highly rated. Sometimes ppl in Aussie spray themselves with a plant sprayer filled with cold water to keep cool in the hot season. It's kinda crappy, but, you do what you gotta do. Depends on Aircon etc. Hang in there, it's tech guys like yourself that keep Aussie strong in the mining game. Lotta mechanics these days are just part fitters, sometimes that's ok, but for substantial servicing, experience is worthy.

@@federalnoise Sometimes? You mean 99% of the time? Without skilled mechanical (or part) fitters, the quality and reliability of substantial servicing could be compromised. As a diag tech, I very often encounter issues stemming from poor re-assembly, so this highlights just how crucial mechanical fitters are.
