I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into these informative 22LR videos. I look forward to each and every one. I sorted some RWS semi auto 22 LR ammo awhile back but have yet to hit the range due to the weather. With a current temperature of -4°F and a wind-chill of -22°F, I don’t think I’ll be spending a day at the range any time soon.

Love it! I sort my pellets and have found at least in my tests no matter the brand or grade there are small variances. So you can improve consistency through sorting. The fact that at times you can hear a different report from the rifle even with match grade ammo would indicate to me there is a difference in powder charge primer or spacing. In the end I think we all just want to do the best we can with what we have. Thank you for another enjoyable video.

There is something special about the feal of a good rifle,cheek on a solid weld spot, breath at the right point of exhale, the break of a crisp trigger, the blur of the sights at recoil and knowing the round is on target before your vision clears to confirm that you already know. Well done!....

I guess I am one of the guys that think sorting is the way to I did notice one thing that you did differently on the two guns. I know two different style of stocks. One gun you shot with your thumb over the stock the other with your thumb on the thumb rest on the right side of the stock. Trying as hard as you can a bit of pressure more or less can make a difference.

Try this out. Get a pack of any ammo you want, then load up the magazine and shoot 5 shot groups from the magazine. Then, CAREFULLY SINGLE SHOT load your rifle and shoot 5 shot groups. Depending on how much you handle ammo, and how gentle the action is on loading the ammunition from a magazine, can and does affect accuracy.

It's kind of funny you know, I used to get the same moa with the Australian made winchester 40gn power points in my early factory stock 1990s CZ 452 2E LUX custom order no sight barrel with front forend screw removed. I have only just now ran out of 500 round bricks of the Aussie made stuff and have to try and find a hollow point that matches match ammo accuracy now that my bread and butter ammo is no longer made to the tolerances they once were.😪 Good to see the newer CZ/brno heritage still goes alright, love your channel and keep on at from Australia! 👍

Man, I feel the pain! I've been traveling in that rabbit hole for the last 4 or 5 years. I have converted my 10/22 so may times I've lost count. On my 3rd barrel,(Green Mountain 24" stainless steel bull barrel). 3rd stock,(Boyd's thumb hole walnut) and the final piece is an Crimson Trace, 6 x 24 x 56 ffp with 34mm main tube. Picked up some Eley Team and that completed the equation! Did five, 5 shot groups with the worst group @ 0.291" and the best @ 0.170". All five groups had every shot touching and not 1 flyer. I'll be framing that target because I will probably never repeat it! The rabbit hole is wide and deep! Think the 10/22 is right there and now it's time to work on the CZ457 and see what I can do with it. This one is completely stock,(but for a YoDave trigger spring) that has the trigger pull at 1.25 lbs. Sweet trigger. Keep these 22lr videos coming! Alway fun to watch someone else driving themselves COO-COO looking for the prize! 🤪

I’ve just started following you and I enjoy your videos very much. This video is from 3 years ago. I’ve seen some more recent ones as well. I have noticed something. I can tell each and every time what your result is going to be just by watching your trigger finger. If your finger looks like it didn’t do anything, you’re pretty much on bullseye. If there is even the slightest indication that you pulled the trigger, you’re all over the place.

I personally only weight sort and then only to cull rounds that are way out of the norm. My preferred ammo is Eley Target as a daily shooter and I usually cull two rounds per box. 23 out of the last brick. If i shoot a group with the culled ammo, it will be much larger than the good ammo.

If you have hard topped shooting tables, you should consider rubber mat under your ransom rest to keep it from shifting. I am just as wound up on 22LR as you talk about being, currently own more than 15 higher end 22's, and enjoy them all to no end, I keep my Scopes on the lower power, nothing more than 10, usually at 8, but no matter-its a pure joy, and I sort by rim thickness, and have gotten some stellar groups, and some dismal ones to boot. Man, I´m cruising around a scope for 22lr at a 100. I too would love, if you would make a video about that. Actually I´ve broke it down to two products (Meopta Optika5 vs Brownell´s MPO), but am now not sure about the magnification. I want the best for 100yds, but would like it too, to be as versatile as possible (as a 2nd step criteria). So, will a 18ish magnification be enough, or will a 25ish way better and a must?

I put it all together with for my son,(and me) to shoot and play with. It seems like it has the potential of being a pretty good shooter. The scope is very suprising as far as clarity and tracking.Rabbit Hole?! I just ordered an Athlon Ares BTR Gen2 HD 4.5 X 27 X 50 with APLR4 FFP MOA reticle. Something you might consider is placing a spirit level on your rifles. On a round bottom stock you can can’t the rifle a small bit and it will affect you groups. A Level ensures that the gun is straight every shot. Also don’t believe you are using any wind flags. These two things I would say are more important than anything you can do with ammo. The group that you spoiled at the end you was upset about may have not happened if you had the aforementioned.

Great video and the little sorting I’ve done was with bulk ammo. The weights ranged between 49-51grs in the Federal bulk 40gr 550 box, I haven’t done rim thickness yet but I will. The reason I think it makes a difference is I’ve been shooting 50 foot slow fire pistol for years with a 22 and I’ll end up with 5 tens, 4 nines and a four. Sometimes you can hear the difference in the report. So I have more time than money so weighing and measuring the rim thickness is maybe part of my new hobby. I have a question, does your Christensen Arms rifle have just one screw to connect your stock to the frame? If so I have a suggestion that might make it group better. Thanks for all your time and energy, great video.

That’s great to know, I just ordered the Bergara B14r which should be very similar to your Christensen Arms. I played with 10/22s of all sorts and finally figured out that the one screw connection didn’t give you the best accuracy and a free floated barrel didn’t help. I bought the new Ruger Custom Shop 10/22 and so far it’s shooting with bolt action accuracy. Thanks for the reply and as soon as the weather warms up I’ll come to your website and shoot some with you.

Sorting can help, but when you mention “some of us don’t have the means” there is something you’re forgetting. Sorting means you are essentially throwing away ammo, since you now have rounds that don’t meet your sorting criteria. This can dramatically change the price of the ammo. And you’ll likely get better results by buying the more expensive stuff anyway, and won’t have to discard any that didn’t pass the sorting test.
@Dayattherange
@Dayattherange 3 жыл бұрын
I don't cull ammo in that way. That ammo is then used to season and warm up the barrel or for plinking.

@@Dayattherange I've been shooting silhouette and benchrest for over 14 years now, and in that time I believe I've sorted over 50,000 rounds. And when I say sorting can help, I don't mean that it will help. Sometimes it doesn't make any noticeable difference at all and turns out to be a waste of time. Other times it makes stuff shoot a little bit better. But in my experience, a little bit better isn't a whole lot, and usually isn't shooting better than what it would do if I just bought the next better stuff in the ammo lineup. I've found that sorting by weight tends to make more difference than sorting by rim thickness. And sorting by length of base to ogive seems to make as much of a difference as sorting by weight, if not a little more. Most of what I've sorted is Eley Sport, which used to be called Eley Target Rifle, which is decent for silhouette, and CCI Standard, which is garbage for everything. We shoot a lot of rounds for silhouette, 200 rounds for score on match day and a lot more during practice, and that Eley Sport is what I shoot most for that game. For benchrest it pretty much has to be Eley Match or Eley Tenex. None of my guns prefer the Lapua stuff, but if they did then for silhouette it would probably be SK Rifle Match (SK is Lapua's cheaper brand) for silhouette and Lapua Xact or Midas+ for benchrest. I even bought Neil Waltz's die for forming rounds consistently, and it makes a difference too, but again mostly just about what might be covered by spending more for the better ammo in the first place. I never even use it anymore. I just spend the extra and get better results with the better ammo. In the end, sorting just kills time for sometimes a little gain.

@Dayattherange The positives of sorting are on the targets that you just shot. you can see that the .37's grouped below the horizontal line and , the .38's grouped above that line... now, if you overlay the .37 groups and the .38's you will see the groups you would have if you didnt sort... each croup would have covered the target from top to bottom.
