I was shopping for a mountain gun in 45. I ended up with a 25-7 5 inch barrel and unfluted cylinder. The price was half of the mountain gun and the 25-7 is a bit rare. 2000 made I think. Also a bit heavier than the MG. Still very happy with purchase. Very accurate.

Is the 25-7 with the slab sided barrel? I will take a look in my S&W book.

Come right .1 mil, maybe .2 mil and then no excuses. For the front rest, I'm not into benchrest, but the purpose of the front rest is to hold the rifle steady, right? If you're fine tuning elevation or windage with the rest, I think the bubble level is a guide rather than "law" unless you're actually shooting a benchrest rifle. I don't know of any 10/22 that is a benchrest rifle. Great shooting and I love the content. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

Scope problem may be the zero stop limiting travel. Try removing it. A 20 MOA base will only make the problem worse. Just try using the rear foot adjustment. Left / right level is more critical. Trust me… I know that you grew up holding the rifle tight in your shoulder, cheek on stock, and squeezing the bag. Benchrest shooting is a different animal - you need to let the rest do all the work for and isolate yourself from the rifle. If you have a very light (3 oz) trigger, that’s all that you should be touching. If not, pinch the trigger back with your thumb on the rear of the trigger guard - just two fingers in touch with the rifle. Get some rubber feet for the rest when using it on a hard surface. Caldwell sells some or you can make them stacking and epoxying washers and gluing inner tube rubber to the bottom. You don’t want the rest wandering around the bench. If it still moves, clamp a piece of wood across the bench in front of the rest. I use a piece of rubber horse stall pad under my rests - buy the pad at Tractor supply. Try using the fore end stop on your rest - it provides consistent return to battery. When setting up the rifle on the bench, pound the stock down into the rear bag ears. This compresses the bag and provides 12:36 consistent height support. Put a used dryer sheet on the bag for consistent recoil friction. You may notice my consistent use of the word “consistent”; that is the key to benchrest precision. Rests are ideally used with rifles that have a flat 3” wide fore end. This allows the rifle to set stable in the rest without you supporting. Most of the rifles you shoot have narrow, rounded stock fore ends that are not compatible with rifle isolation. Stocks can be modified by planning the fore end flat and attaching a flat 1/4” thick by 3” wide metal plate - steel is best because it adds weight. Brownells sells a Sinclair 3” four end adapter. Attach a pic rail to the sling swivel and the adapter to the rail if you don’t want to modify the stock. You can move this contraption from rifle to rifle.

@susanball13114 күн бұрын
Elevation adjustment with the mariner wheel. Get her setup with your rifle as you would shoot. Take the rifle out and use your paws on the top of the rest where your rifle would nest and see if you can move the top of the rest. Any movement should answer your question!!!!!!!!

It sounds like there is something wrong with your scope if it is bottomed out at 50 yards. Or it isn't mounted right if it is bottomed out at 50 yards.
@Dayattherange3 күн бұрын
It is mounted right what I realized when I got home and looked at the packaging it is a 30MOA rail which explains it all. That's probably why it was sitting for so long unused. I don't even remembered what I ordered this thing for but obviously it didn't meet my needs.

I don’t have the same rest as you but one similar. And I use the rear foot for fine adjustments for benchrest shooting. Now I don’t use it to move from top to bottom of the card I use the wheel for that. But a inch or so I haven’t seen where that does anything to point of impact. I’ve always wondered why you didn’t use it. Love your videos.
@stevenclark70704 күн бұрын
I tried the same scope on my 10/22, and you are correct. Without a 20 MOA rail, you're tapped out on the elevation. I was out this morning for the first time in about 2 months. Happy 4th!
@thegunslinger45704 күн бұрын
Happy 4th to ya'll. Scope should not be bottomed out at only 50 yards. A friend had this similar problem, I forgot what he did to correct it but I think the problem was the scope internally. Ask Cyclops he's the scope master. Under Warranty? As far as moving the front mount if your pressed for time you can adjust it from rear leg but if no time issue, adjust it proper way.

Happy Independence Day Mr Elijah! Definitely add a 20 or 30 moa rail. Need it for long ranges anyway and it’ll get you off the end of the travel range. Extremes in travel are never good. I’ve got that same scope on a 6.5 creedmoor…good deal for the $ although 35-40x gets a little dark.
@Dayattherange4 күн бұрын
I agree up to 32 it is a great scope.
@D703402 күн бұрын
I have the same exact scope on my 6.5 Creedmoor chassis rifle as well. Same issue, gets very dark on the high X end. Anything above 30x, its pretty much worthless. But being that i bought it brand new for only 299, it does pretty darn good for what i paid for it, and tracks and stays put very well.
@Dayattherange2 күн бұрын
@D70340 I am happy with it like you I was honestly shocked you get what you get. Paid a little less than 299. Though I need to save up for the new Arken 7 to 35.
