I believe the music was specially composed for this video.

Hello, many thanks for this video. Please, what is the screws' torque of the plastic housing on the water pump's aluminum body?

I took mine to my local dealer to replace (Milton Keynes UK) for timing belt and new water pump. After I got home, I checked my pump-- new! I noticed the dust wasn't disturbed on the timing belt cover-- I removed it and saw my old belt staring back at me! The replacement belt and labor was also on my receipt! Thieves!

My belt skipped while trying to break the crank bolt loose. Does anyone have a better picture of TDC for the camshafts?

Is there any good reason why the cam sprockets has to be loosen? They are locked on the gearbox/transmission side anyway?
@toddyboy5634 жыл бұрын
Because they’re changing the cam seals in this video. Which is why they’re removing the cams. You do still need to the lock the cams at the rear as it tells you to do
@toddyboy5633 жыл бұрын
@@TheMechanicsCar-ek1vm It’s a 1.4TSI, the cams are not adjustable mate. Removing those front covers is only to replace the seals, you cannot move them gears once they’re locked at the rear of the motor

I have a question for you. I have an 1.0tsi engine, but the timing belt is on the same system. My question is why you have to loosen the exhaust and intake sprockets, even if you hace the crankshaft and the camshafts blocked in corect position. I saw this in all the tutorials, but nobody tells why. I need to know this because I want to change myself the timing belt. Thanx.
@KasamS4 жыл бұрын
You do it so you can tension the belt correctly. Its a must otherwise your timing will be wrong
@toyotoe37322 жыл бұрын
The reason is the exhaust and intake camshaft sprockets are not a perfectly ROUND shape

I have a question. Why the engine must be timed (1st cylinder TDC) before fitting the water pump?
@jonathantaylor43782 жыл бұрын
Did you ever find out, would be interested to know.
@jamesd.995510 ай бұрын
It has to do with applying correct torque to the bolts of the housing. Saw another video about it. Also have to maintain certain torque on a recessed fitting when tightening bolts in a certain sequence.

Does anyone know where the crankshaft position sensor is on this particular engine?
@badrc3503 жыл бұрын
If it is not on the belt side, it will most likely be located between the engine and the gearbox, most of 1.4 TSI motors are like that. In order to replace it, the gearbox must come out, maybe the newer ones don't require that anymore, it could be replaced from the outside, I am not sure though. :/

How do you know how to align the cams and the crack pulleys to TDC?
@tomrich20474 жыл бұрын
If anyone else finds this and has the same question: You can either remove the number 1 spark plug, drop a valve grinding stick or long screwdriver down the hole and turn the engine it over by hand until your implement of choice is at its highest, go back and forth watching carefully for it to rise and fall. At it's peak, you will be very close to TDC. Alternatively, practically every VW has a mark on the flywheel visible through a pull-out bung covering an inspection hole in the bellhousing of the gearbox.

The locking bolt that he screwed on the engine block locks the crankshaft when turned clockwise and therefore sets the engine at TDC
@ML-hf6ii4 жыл бұрын
@@jimmygichuhi4942 exactly, there is no need to search TDC manually

Do any of you know the camshaft timing marks? My belt skipped while trying to break the crankshaft bolt, leaving my motor out of time. I’m stuck right now!
@AndrewJA3 жыл бұрын
Tyler Burns you’ll have to buy the VAG timing tool for this specific engine. It just attaches on the water pump side of the cams and locks them into place while you put the belt on.
@caseyhall51254 жыл бұрын
I thought this engine, the timing belt is good for the life of the engine?
@jerryrawlings88853 жыл бұрын
Casey Hall I wouldn't trust it VW recommend 60,000 miles or 5 years whichever is sooner.
@Aiido893 жыл бұрын
Done a few belts on these all about 80k km and 8 years old the original belt were starting to crack so they arent lifetime belts as claimed!!
