After recently uploading a video about the Dreamcast tech demo of Scud Race running on the PC (which you can see here: • Scud Race Tech Demo fo... ) the topic of Daytona USA 2001 for the Dreamcast came up a few times again.
This got me a bit nostalgic to see the game running again. Not that long ago I uploaded

running in mirror reverse mode, so I decided to do the same here with the tracks lifted from Championship Circuit Edition from the Saturn. I also a played a little 777 Speedway in mirror reverse too. I initially forgot I'd played the three new stages in mirror reverse and actually played the initial games in just reverse without the mirror.
I'm using Flycast emulator here, which very nicely upscales the Dreamcast graphics and adds in widescreen, but does have a few graphical bugs, that seem to make parts of the cars logos disappear.
I was just using an Xbox 360 pad on the game's default sensitivity option for these videos, rather than my racing wheel. Just playing with a 360 pad the game doesn't handle too badly at all, nowhere near as bad as I remember it playing with an actual DC pad. Using the Hornet the pad sensitivity still feels quite high. It was still quite easy to start fishtailing and oversteering, especially on 777 Speedway as you're trying to steer around the CPU cars. The Falcon and the Red Catwere much less slippy and easy to control with the pad though. I think maybe the DC thumbstick just isn't all the great when it comes to this game, as I think it's got quite a small amount of movement on it's X axis comparatively compared to the superior Xbox 360 pad.

I paused at 2:59, and apparently the AI cars' bodywork can get dented and crumpled as well, probably even more so than the original arcade! (best shown in multiplayer, since opponents on your screen use the lower poly models) I guess it would make sense because they all use the same stock car bodies as the four starting cars (save Unicorn); the #27 Aquila car here seems to be the same model as Grasshopper.

Did you notice, that Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, got an FPS-boost update on Xbox! Finally it's playable at 60 fps on console! Yay! Didn't expect it, but that's fantastic!

That's pretty cool. So, is this the regular Xbox 360 version or do you mean if you're playing it via backwards compatibility on one of the newer Xbox consoles? I started off with the PS3 version, but I upgraded to the PC game not long after it came out, so I've been playing it at 60fps in 1080p for awhile now. It really does make a big difference in how the game looks.

@@MrThunderwing Series S/X only, via backwards compatibility. I played it on my (then) 3 screen eyefinity setup and on my projector with over 110" screen ;) Tested on consoles and just couldn't play it with 30 fps... Now, the resolution is a little low, but the speed is fantastic, and it also has that Microsoft's automatic HDR-thingy. Nice. BTW. Does YT remove posts with links, nowadays? It seems I cannot post a link anymore, the post vanishes...

@@miikasuominen3845 I've got my comment settings set to automatically withhold any comments with links in them. Mainly because I was getting tired of bot accounts for dodgy dating sites spam and people trying to piggyback the crap mobile phone recorded footage of them playing Daytona USA in the wrong aspect ratio in my comments. Pretty much all larger channels these days are set up to automatically block comments with links in.

How do you unlock the Red Cat car?

I can't recall what the unlock requirements are now I'm afraid, it's been ages. All the info about the unlockable cars is on GameFAQs - I actually cheated with these and found a save file with some Googling.
