I do remember when i started playing the Mod, my survival time went from 2 minutes, to 12, to 20 then to an hour, which was a huge thing when all alone It then went to several days and zombies not being a huge problem, but always a looming threat to deal with

I remember the times. God Miss em. Kept me and a lot of (sometimes new) friends up. Sometimes on the Hive servers with one character. Sometimes on a community server with private DB. It was hard, but cool. It kinda went down when everyone started playing. I remember the early days, where the people were kinda chill. Later on it was more PvP

Yeah, the only real fun you can get from the Standalone is from the community servers. Official servs were too quiet and there was little loot in towns that were completely unexplored. I wish I could access the Mod, but I can still have fun in the community servers on standalone, since I get engaged with the admins quickly.

That progression bit at the start of survival games is my favorite part of the genre. Starting out completely clueless, then slowly picking up important info and learning to prioritize, growing better not because my characters stats, but because I am becoming experienced with the scenario. Bases often kill my enjoyment, as they become too safe too quickly.

@@Yorkington most things on the internet (software, code, etc.) Usually has a legally binding license to it, that says what people can or can't do with it. This is to prevent people and companies from just straight up copying/stealing things you have created. Think of it like the copyright system for videos for example (they are also covered by similar licenses) The DayZ mod was covered by a license that said that you could only build and adpat it in arma 2 and no other games. OMG... Operation Flashpoint became Arma?! Operation Flashpoint was one of the first PC games I ever played and I loved it as a teen, I had no idea that anyone else had ever even played it, much less that it got sequels. I lacked a computer for a long time and when I got back into PC gaming it was after DayZ standalone had come out and it reminded me of that old game plus I was really into post-apocalyptic stuff at the time, so of course I tried it but nobody else was playing and I didn't find much to enjoy about it. If I had known about its lineage I would've jumped into Arma so fast... I can't believe I'm JUST finding out about this NOW. You talking about sinking tons of time into Operation Flashpoint as a teen is bringing up so much nostalgia for me. I remember navigating by the stars during those night missions, dodging SpetzNatz patrols in the woods, getting wrecked by surprise autocannon/AA tanks and BMPs, and of course spending hours making my own campaigns setting NPC pathfinding and objectives...I feel like I missed out on so much not knowing I could've been still playing it this whole time and missed out on Arma2. If people are still playing whatever the newest game is, I'm totally downloading it. It sucks I missed out on the DayZ mod, but I'm kinda over zombies now anyway. Still, I would love to try and recapture some of that brutal, realistic Operation Flashpoint magic.

The beans were running low however so we headed into town to look for supplies but a mission happened to pop up and trap us there. We tried to fight our way out of town but between the AI and the zombies we were outgunned and out numbered. With bullets and blood running low we called out for help to anyone who could come rescue us. 5 mins later a silver UH-1Y helicopter swoops into town with a ghillie guy at the pilot seat to save us from certain doom. 7 years later i still game with that pilot that saved my bacon.

These eassys are quite informative and enjoyable to watch at the same time. Quite difficult to achieve both at the same time, which is why I like these so much already. Keep up with these Soviet.

First off soviet love how when you say "You never beat me in the culling shut up." You throw up the definition of denial lol. Second off love your vids. But maaaan Dayz may get repetitive but it certainly is fun and tense, my one drawback with the game still is dying and restarting but I played the ps4 version and it was very barebones at the time, I wish they could up the abundance of food and drinks just a tad but that's just me it has been quite a while since I played it. You really have to just accept the fact that you can die at any time and will lose ALL your stuff and have to start fresh but if you can get past that it's a joy trying to survive and get set up. It really is a tense moment when you encounter other players or dangerous threats too, I've had my heart drop in a nanosecond after hearing multiple gunshots from multiple people in the distance or down the street and all I can think is, "Are they shooting at each other? Are they shooting at zombies? How many are there?" like it really does get tense and becomes a horror game. I remember a time me and my friend nearly getting killed by a massive horde of oncoming zombies in a town because we shot a couple and attracted a fuck ton of them, we had M4's and MP5K's and AK's and tried hiding in a church to catch our breath only to have to flee when we realized we'd have to leave eventually and the whole time our hearts were pumping hard. If you want a good zombie apocalypse simulator Dayz is a good choice, it's harsh, unforgiving, and can be pretty immersive.

This is brilliant man, cheers for making this. Very interesting. As for 7:52 - the game loop hasn't changed at all for new players haha

Don't worry womble, once dayz finally gets its head out of the gutter, they'll finally implement those pine forest sections that were lacking from the base release.

There's absolutely potential here. The comedy needs a little work but the seeds of a great video essay series/channel are absolutely there. I hope it grows

This is great. I ended up playing dayz for the first time yesterday and loved it, to get a bit of background is cool.
