Just a quick video to show some of Casmo's viewers that the quick stop from high speeds using Casmo's stop and hover fundamental's work with practice, as with almost anything it just requires practice once you have the fundamentals.
I should have used the footage from the flight I did to get the thumbnail picture.... 135 knots no crash. lol I don't mind showing my mistakes though. Hope you enjoyed!!

I have nerves of room temperature butter a lot of times, so I have a feeling that was a big part of my first attempt mess up! lol Hope this helps for those that want to/have issues with high speed stops. Also, correct me if I'm wrong on the trim affecting the throw of the cyclic.

Yep... This was my third time recording this too... Either audio or video issues! lol First take was the best take on the actual maneuver itself. Well, the non-recorded one I did just for the thumbnail was actually the best take. ha ha. I was thinking about redoing the whole video and said, nah, gotta show the mistakes that happen during these maneuvers too!

If you want your trim theory confirmed, just activate and look at the control overlay? Or simply trim full forwards, pull back on the stick and look at the markings at the base of the cyclic stick? It's VERY easy to verify. I had to reduce pitch and roll saturation to make the Apache less twitchy. Loss of cyclic range is no problem, since I'm (almost sub-consciously) trimming constantly, to be 'hands-off' as much as possible (old Ka-50 habit). And I still don't understand what's supposed to be so confusing about trim. You're just telling the aircraft to hold the stick where you put it.
@HeloHounds
@HeloHounds Жыл бұрын
I just got the Ka-50. It is literally the only helicopter I use trim in, that thing will kill you if you don't. 🤣 As for using ut in others... Still don't. Tried it again in the Apache and gor me at least, it makes it unbearable to fly. Quite literally lose all your range in the cyclic.
@fonesrphunny7242
@fonesrphunny7242 Жыл бұрын
You're too funny! The "problem" in the Ka-50 is the AP trying to actively hold the commanded attitude. If the AP has to do too much work it builds up tension, which gets released immediately when pressing the trim button again. Most common result is a rapid pitch up movement when decelerating. THIS is what kills people and why I always recommend using FD-AP to get started. FD-AP bypasses the strict att hold and only leaves you with SAS, which can also be toggled per channel. It makes the Ka-50 much more predictable and behave more like a regular helicopter (minus the anti torque of course). You wouldn't need trim anymore, although you still would want to trim forward to have a decent hover when putting the stick near neutral. Anyways, the Ka-50 suffers from the same cyclic range issue when trimming and the default AP mode will actively work against you, reducing your max authority even further. Makes the Apache unbearable to fly, but two limiting systems in the Ka-50 are fine? And don't tell me any hard maneuvers would snap the rotors off! :P
@HeloHounds
@HeloHounds Жыл бұрын
@Fones R Phunny eell, like I said before, I just got the Ka-50... So when I practice maneuvers in it such as high speeds and coming to a stop as quickly as possible to put it into a hover I quite literally need to rest trim to 0 to get the throw I need to be able to pull the nose up enough.

No u wrong apache wouldn't be broken just because you touch the ground with the rear but the flanc as well... So one of the front gear bring smoothness to this impact... DCS physic is excactly as the real life... That's gorgeous. Although if u were touching the ground only with the rear like that... Absolutely true ur apache will be broken... DCS is a Sim.. Not a game remember. Tons of ppl play with.. But u can play on everyth.. Depending on what's level of focus and serious u want to put in.... Congrats for this share... I'm chopper pilot too on DCS ❤... And I confirm this is the way to stop chopper in a dangerous environment combat.

You shud use a helicopter for helicopter training. If you like to learn sailing you do not us an aircraft carrier for doing so. 😂 The Apache? If you follow your video, you hear low RPM, high RPM during simpel fast forward flight. What that is traing to tell you is, that this peace of metal and computer chips don't want to fly all. 😢 But you doing great under that sercimstances. Thanks for your Chanel and promoting helicopters on DCS we are still not that many. 🤠👍

Thanks for your input! I was using dual T1600.M joysticks at the time so it made it very hard to keep the collective 100% steady, also the Apache is way too sensitive in those regards anyway. It doesn't really affect forward flight performance (in-game) from overspeeding anyway I don't mind when it happens, unless I'm in a Hover, then you notice.. lol

@@HeloHounds To be honest, I don't really like the Apache at the moment. I fly it occasionally, and just 2 days ago, it was time again. Even though a lot has improved in the helicopter range of less than 40 knots and less than 300 feet, it is still a disaster. As you say, it reacts far too strongly to inputs, and above all, the fluctuations in rotor speed are difficult to accept and contradict fundamental physics. I had a productive conversation about this with one of the testers, and although he is a former Apache pilot, his statements left me shaking my head. My conclusion from this conversation was that the testers put more ego than physics into the model. Otherwise, I can't explain many things. Considering the stick you used for the video, my respect for your performance increases. I use an EC-135 Cyclic and a UH-1 Collective from Komodo. I don't trim, as this always leads to uncontrollable behavior. But I don't use stabilization systems, either. I am a former CFI-H, and if you want to have your flying skills assessed, we train and test in the squadron according to FAA / PTS-HPL-Private in three levels. Presolo, pre cross country, and PPLH. We call this Airman. You can find out more on our DISCORD on the AIRMAN FT channel. BLACK ANGELS discord.gg/aqwzv2P However, we are in Europe, so it can be challenging to fly with pilots from the USA. But where there's a will, there's a way. Always a good landing My callsign Grizzly

@@lowlevelheaven as you can tell by my other videos, we aren't too concerned about the "proper" way to fly these modules. We're here to have fun with somewhat realistic flight characteristics. I know what you mean when you say they are more egocentric than than wanting to improve characteristics as I just recently had a good conversation about the crap damage models the Apache and Blackshark have. They insist they are pretty realistic even though a Huey lasts about as long as those two models in testing against small arms fire. lol

Not excactly if you fly in a contested environment with tons of enemy APC... Manpads... Shilka and others and u need to avoid radar detection from AAA... U would have no choice to fly extremely low at high speed to minimized to exposure time... Trust me this is the best way to stay alive as chopper's pilot..
