You pretty much sold me the module over the course of this video. I love those generation 3 Cold War jets, especially European aircraft. The Viggen has been my baby for many years, but it's very strict pre-plan nature due to computer limitations makes it a tad awkward at times for these more adhoc type multiplayer servers. The F1 is a very pretty jet, Aerges seem to have made a really quality product here. I just wish we had more British jets in the sim, I'd be overjoyed to see the Gloster Javelin FAW.9, Blackburn Buccaneer S2 or Harrier FRS.1/GR.3 in the game. Sadly DCS remains very much US focused, the current issue between ED and Razbam makes this even more sad as the MiG-23 was going to be a massive deal for Cold War REDFOR fans.

At 3:40 you get trouble with the EXT button. As far as I know this has nothing to do with wether it's Sidewinders or Magics you've got equipped. It just dictates if the tip-of-wing IR missiles should have their autodirectors cooled and prepped or not -> M (Marche = On) or A (Arrêt = Off)

I didn't know you could carry weapons whilst doing a recon run, might actually try it myself now - how'd you get the velocity vector up for landing? I have also massively struggled with landing this thing, the brakes are INSANELY sensitive, literal fraction of a second taps on the brakes are how I do it, even holding the brakes for more than .5 of a second will flip it, hardest thing to land I've tried in DCS so far by a huge margin.

Hey Bullet! :) Yeah you can arm your recon plane since some time, it's quite handy. I've looked up a video where someone mentions the velocity vector, they call it approach mode, see here (timecoded): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtmqapuEs9SwonU.html About the landing, since the video Ive been training quite a bit. The trick seems to be to pop the chute without any kind of braking, then wait until you're really slow and only then tap the brakes while countering the plane (it will still try to break out, mostly to the right for some reason). This works 95% of the time, all the time 🙃

Thanks for the vid. When landing in a cross-wind, I turn nose wheel steering off completely.

You are a good narrator, nice to hear your experience of this demanding jet. About the landings, on the first one your flaps are only half deployed, on the second one, not deployed at all. This thing like to land fast, but 200kts is a bit too fast. I aim for 150kts, full flaps, using the airbrake a bit at the end to keep the engine at 8k RPM. Especially on the second landing, your RPM are too low. it takes around 5 seconds to gain back thrust, it's usually too late if you want to abort. As you mention it, the wheel steering has to be disconnected (I always remove the button protection as good measure), the rudder is efficient up until 35kts anyway. Using the parachute helps a lot, the brakes are not meant to be used before the end of the runway.

Thanks, I figured it out in the meantime, I just use the chute to slow me down until I dont tip over, works well enough.

When I take off, i shut the nosewheel steering completely off, and i dont turn it back on until im ready to taxi off the runway after landing. When I land, I try to let the aircraft slow itself down with the nose up a little, then throw the chute and let that do the rest of the work. Much higher success rate using that technique.

I'm curious as to how your turn off nose-wheel steering. You can switch between High and Low sensitivity (button pushed-in, no white = high / button pull-out, white lining = low) but I don't think you can outright disable NWS on the Mirage F1

@bliboblob620 aside from the push pull switch, there is a toggle switch with a safety cover on it. Turning this switch off completely disables nosewheel steering. Its right by the nosewheel steering gain switch.

@@DaveyCooter Ah right, thx ! I'm always kinda reluctant to use those "emergency switches" with black and yellow stripes to be fair

Can you tell me why you turn off the nose wheel steering?
@DaveyCooter

@@DGalzak the nose wheel steering is ridiculously sensitive, even if you turn off the steering gain after taxiing.
