Let me know if you have questions and please let me know if I should have split the video up in shorter and more videos instead, such as four videos but short ones.
Another tutorial with the Apache, this time aimed at getting to know how to hover, some tips and tricks and symbology. Transition in to flight, some side slipping, reversing and some stupid flying between buildings which is a great way to get to know your modules.
Finally found a good solution for the wide screen format, I hope. It seems to work for several others on youtube. So full size widescreen, it will add some black bars above and bellow with normal 16:9 and 16:10 displays but works fine to watch on both laptops and even an iPad as far as I tried.

Thanks for the video! Hovering for me is definitely the most difficult part. Who knew? Tonight was the first night I was able to have George fire off all 16 hellfires without being attacked though. So little by little- I guess we all learn.

Thanks for watching and commenting! Yeah hovering can be difficult at first and even once it has been learned sometimes it goes south. Getting all 16 Hellfires off sounds like a good sortie! And kind of sounds like 16 kills!

I felt like I was a trainee pilot flying with an instructor. Very well explained in baby step chunks of info and demonstration. Well thought out and planned video. Impressive.

Thank you so much for the kind comment! I'm very glad you enjoyed it and that my "slow learning" is coming through. The downside is long videos which I will try and fix with shorter ones and a few more instead.

Thank your so much! I'm really glad you like it! Is great to hear you're getting better, as you say, it gets to be more and more fun the more one learns and knows. DCS modules have a steep learning curve but huge amounts of reward. 😊

Thanks for watching and I'm glad it's helpful! Thanks for the kind comment about the flying 🙂 Like I said, practice and practice! That goes for every module we want to fly. Being good at one module will makes us better with all in many ways. The helicopters are very different of course and I feel the Apache is the one that flies most similar to a fixed wing plane. One could of course dedicate oneself to one single module, I wish I could do that but there are too many good ones to choose from.

Great video - best tutorial on YT so far - can i ask- what deadzone/curve settings you have on hotas ???
@wilbuzllf5057
@wilbuzllf5057 2 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you very much! I am using the Virpil WarBrD base with the TC50CM2 grip without extension at the moment (for reference) I use 5 for deadzone and 10 for curve for both X and Y axis. For pedals I use 10 for curve and 0 deadzone as I have pedals without center and springs.

Best I've seen yet on hovering and trimming - - I need this kind of tutorial because i have been struggling just to stay steady in a hover. The tip on trimming until not above 70 knots was a epiphany for me I noticed that was better but didn't think i was doing it right, because I seen other people constantly trimming which i found to be counterproductive. Just wondering which trim settings do you recommend i am using instant trim and the free pedals, I have a Warthog - and how much trimming do you do upon landing?
@wilbuzllf5057

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to comment and asking questions! 🙂 The Apache is so sensitive to input at low speeds that it's, at first, difficult to stay steady in a hover compared to other helicopters, it's also what makes it beautiful to fly and the reason you don't really need to trim until 70 knots so both good and bad in some ways. People often trim helicopters too much in my opinion, with some it's needed but the Apache is almost a "trim once" kind of bird. If you're gonna fly longer flights at the same speed it's nice to trim for that speed though. Feel free to check out my "pure" trim tutorial I made a few days ago here where I go through trim settings more. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/acuHhZBhy5ybmYU.html If you don't have the time or desire, the settings I go over there, and the ones I use are Central Position Trimmer mode, this will save you a whole world of trouble compared to instant trim, especially for the pedals but you already discovered that as you use the Free Pedals 🙂 The Warthog is a superb stick and a nice setup, instant trim will work for the stick as well if that is what you are used to and if you're fast enough at centering it. Central position trimmer doesn't require you to center the stick in panic most of the time though.

@2:40 The circle in the IHADDS is your lift vector. It's the direction your propeller is pulling you. The further away from the center, the harder it's pulling in that direction. The line is your velocity vector. It's the direction the helicopter is moving. The longer it is, the faster you are moving. They aren't connected and move independently of each other.
@wilbuzllf5057

Thank you so much for the clarification! I didn't know that was what the circle was telling me actually, I should've read up more on it perhaps but too excited to fly the thing 🙂

Circle is the acceleration cue and basically symbolizes what you said. We consider it the general position of the cyclic.

Nice video, thank you! How do prevent helicopter gaining altitude while increasing pitch and throttle in hover mode?
@wilbuzllf5057
@wilbuzllf5057 Жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry about the late reply. Do you mean while manually hovering? If so, you have to work the throttle/collective carefully, small adjustments. If however you increase the pitch and start moving forward, you need to lower the power in order to maintain altitude, carefully cooperate the cyclic and collective in order to maintain altitude and speed.

When you say "add more power" are you referring to moving the stick forward, or increasing the throttle? I was under the impression the throttle should not be moved during flight.
@wilbuzllf5057
@wilbuzllf5057 Жыл бұрын
Hey! With more power I do indeed mean use the throttle. You can use the throttle as much as you like during flight once you get a feel for it and how to use it but it's often common to use it too much which can result in too high speed and loss of control.

It’s funny how people make tutorials when they really don’t know how to teach someone, this video shows you how to hover lol this is the proper way, and whoever’s new remember that first time flying the ah64 Apache is very very sensitive so adjust your curves on pitch and roll and THE RUDDER PEDALS very important
