Oh man, blast from the past. Here is what I would do for Chaos Sorcerer: 1 - Pick Drow as your race. You'll be able to summon darkness each day. 2 - Pick Cleric and go Order Domain so that you can pick up some nice control spells like hold person. Also pick light for your cantrip. 3 - Make sure you pick up Banishment when you get high enough in levels to cast 4th level spells. I'd also get Daylight for a beefed up version of Light to fill out your flavor. I'm sure you'd want to throw some warlock in there to be able to see into your darkness, but as far as flavor goes Banishment is your bread and butter here.

As a DM I'd probably rule that as okay, since the chances of it happening are pretty low at 1st level and it would make for a bad ass moment. However, this does give me the idea of an Alchemist Fire Eladrin teleporter.... Hmmm....

This is by level 20 by the way. If you want to BURN your spell slots then you can do 9ish per round.

@@TheRobversion1 I just got to level 3, with some sorcery points and metamagic my awesome DM allow me to do some shenanigans. My favorite spell is Chaos Bolt, and she allow me to Twin and Empower it for more leaping chances. My table had a warlock who used Magic Missile and Hex from level 1 to 3. It was a sad moment for me just using cantrips.

I think most long time 5e players and optimizers find it boring to play tier 1. hexblades curse and magic missile works and is a powerful concept. hex doesn't work with magic missile however. chaos bolt is fine to work on at lower levels but generally not worth building around as its more for trash killing than taking down threats like hexblade's curse + magic missile. I played a similar build to your friend. captain magic missile. 2 fighter, wild magic 7, hexblade 1 custom lineage: feytouched (dissonant whispers) asi: warcaster fighting style: superior technique (ambush) metamagic: heighten spell, empower spell tactics: move beside BBEG bonus action: hexblade's curse action: heighten dissonant whispers (enemy provokes AOO) warcaster: upcasted 4th level magic missile (empower if you roll a 1/2) action surge: upcasted 3rd level magic missile (empower if you roll a 1/2) That sequence on average generates 97 points of dmg (more if you upcasted dissonant whispers as well) without factoring empower spell. the sorcerer sub-class here is irrelevant as nothing really boosts magic missile or dissonant whispers. i just picked wild magic for fun but it can be any sorc as we're after the metamgic more. can be changed to diviner as well if you want to trade the metamagic for portent or evoker (best option) if you know you'll hit level 13+ in the campaign. Can also be switched around to hexblade 7 (1 extra missile on the 2nd casting for more burst) and wild magic sorc 1 if you know your DM gives alot of short rests or just a few combats per session.

@@TheRobversion1 It's worth noting that Aberrant Mind sorcerer gets Dissonant Whisper at level 1. That might help get the build online earlier. I still might get 2 levels of fighter for that juicy action surge. Also, maybe 2 levels of tempest cleric for the channel divinity. The campaign is Saltmarsh, and having some creature giving me my powers is actually really fun. Biding my time for those level 6 features.

@@zombieloki9575 yup. Aberrant mind is needed if you want to take a different half feat than feytouched at 1st level or a different 1st level spell. Fighter 2 is a staple of 90% of my builds as it gives you great proficiencies, an emergency heal and the powerful action surge. Why would you take tempest cleric? Take note destructive wrath doesnt work with chaos bolt to allow you get 2 8's RAW as you didn't roll 2 8's. You just got the value assigned. But if your dm allows, thats cool.
