We hope that this video shows people the reality of lip reading and how hard it can be sometimes. Also, we give a few scenarios that hearing people can recognize just to show awareness and show understanding for people with cochlear implants.

I piece things together too. I recognize one word and consider the context, the person speaking, what is happening, has happened or going to happen. Its amazing all the gymnastics your brain has to do! I get it! It's exhausting!

Thank you for this video. I have a first date with a guy this Friday who is deaf and has a cochlear implant so I’m trying to learn any tips to make things go smoothly. This was really helpful, especially the last part after the game 😊

I'm hearing and I am fluent in ASL. I have friends and family who are Deaf. My boyfriend is Deaf and he's black. He reads lips good

It helps with context, and if you know the person well enough to learn how they talk. If she was in a pet store then she may have been able to guess what he was talking about with dog toys and "aisles"

Ah, I just mentioned my comment before, but maybe it was included account of my friend so it might be under approval. Well, anyway, you are amazing. May I ask you where are you living in ? I would like to introduce you to my Japanese friend Yukako who started to live in Taxus and to learn English lip reading. She is also deaf and can read lip in Japanese but not English.

I'm British, and only starting to learn BSL (British Sign Language), but I'm fairly sure she was using signs from ASL in English order. It's virtually impossible to simultaneously produce sentences with correct grammar in two different languages simultaneously. However, I don't think she is using Sign Exact English because there isn't a sign for every word, the linking words like 'with' don't seem to be signed. So, she's probably using what would be called in the UK Sign Supported English (SSE). I'm not sure what the term is in the US but I think I've seen the abbreviation PA used in this context

She is using ASL. SEE (like Atanalo described) would have more signs being used.
