In 1984 you could buy a new Toyota 4WD truck for 12K, we did.

Back in the '60's the machine clearances were very sloppy and engine parts wore out quickly. Now most are BMW tight and the oils are made with better additives so they do last much longer if maintained and driven properly.

My first car back in 1980 was a 1964 Ford Falcon. It had only 64k miles when I got it. I was all used up at that point. Rust everywhere and the engine had to be swapped out for another of the same cubic inches. Thankfully they don't make cars like that anymore other than they were easy to work on.

Agree, and it’s pretty easy tbh. “Don’t eat in the car” is basically all you have to do. Soda is fine if you clean it up immediately if there’s a spill. Get rubber floor mats if you’re in an area with mud. I even break my own rule a few times a year and eat in the car, just be careful. It’s not hard folks.

@@uncletoby- I vacuumed first, on the actual super stained spot I sprayed straight rinse water from self service car wash. That's drastic but it was for only seconds. I then used the OXY carpet cleaner foam can with scrub brush and: spray, scrub, vac, repeat. Done

I had that same model Accord. As a road salesman I drove 900 to 1000 mis. per week. Oil change every 5000 miles. Same maintenance as youts. Sold in 2018 at 395,000 miles for $500. Still a reliable car. You take care of something you value or you're a fool.

Your 2001 Accord was the end of an era for quality. Today's plastic, turbocharged, direct injected, low viscosity oiled engines will never achieve what the old hondas and toyotas were capabe of.

My stepdad used to quietly check the oil and other fluids in our vehicles when we were teens. If you ever ran anything low you might just get it taken away for a while. He didn't bluff either. LOL He would let a guy he knew at a Ford dealership look out for a good, safe used car and get us one when we started driving. Anything later that we might want we had to figure out how to buy ourselves.

It's an auction house, not a used car lot. Detailing costs money and the auction house isn't going out of pocket to detail a vehicle - that gets passed to the dealer that bought it. Same with everything else on the vehicle: body dents, broken trim, that's all up to the dealer to fix before it goes onto his lot.

Across the board, it's the single biggest issue. People pay tens of thousands of dollars for these vehicles and then can't be bothered to even change the oil. Sometimes they never have the oil changed, the engine inevitably fails, and they just let the bank take it back when they can't afford to fix it.

That black stuff on the seats looks to me like - food/drinks spilled, possibly buried underneath fast food wrappers and other trash, not cleaned up, then molding. That's what my expert knowledge from watching "Hoarders" tells me.

The 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Pro debuted in 2017 with a price that started at just under $42k. It's over $20k more with the 4th gen. The reliability of the 3rd gen was a joke and now Toyota wants $20k MORE for a totally new Tacoma with zero evidence that it will be any more reliable than the 3rd gen that Consumer Reports rated least reliable truck for 3 or 4 years in a row and continues to have major reliability issues with.

GREED is ruining the market. It only cost about 20k to build that vehicle in the USA. And that's considering all costs - material, employees, factory, storage.

Sounds more like manufacturers are ruining the market trying to limit color choices by charging extra for anything but black or white.

keep going as long as you can...but eventually you will be forced into something newer...anything built after about 2005 is getting difficult to keep maintained...2015 and newer the electronics can be difficult and downright nasty when changing components...2021 and newer, you may have to get the computer programmed at the dealer to when changing certain parts....2025 and newer...dealer only repairs?

People mistreated that Civic because they were the 2nd owner and found out why the first owner had dumped it on a dealer. Late 2000's Honda cars were cost cutter specials and far less reliable than 90's Hondas.

@@uncletoby- Ok, I’m talking any auction that has legislative requirements on the auction process and the auctioneer. The more legislation the better in this instance. (For example, in Australia most States have the Auctioneer and Agents act) research what Legislative requirements are placed on the Auction process and the Auctioneer. However the tactics I have witnessed and done some of them myself, still work well in the more unregulated auctions. Note: you do have to have a certain quantity of gonads to do this; it can’t be done by beta males. There are two main components: 1) what you have to do is slow the auction down, the only reason for a verbal machine gun ratting out numbers and utterances is to get the audience confused and in the spin of excitement. 2) Sow doubt in the mind of the other bidders. Again, research the Legislative requirements of the Auctioneer in your State, this will give you the ammo to flex and place the advantage on you. I will give you an example, we were at an Auto auction, about every fourth or sixth bid my Dad would ask in a loud voice “What is the bid?” almost yelling/directed at the Auctioneer (by law the Auctioneer had to clearly state the current bid, not in his rapid fire but - to - stop and say the current bid) repeat this in the auction process (every 4 or 6 pretend or real bids) on the vehicle he wanted, it totally stuffs up the Auctioneers (snake oil) sales trip/throws the Auctioneer off his groove and pulls the excitement from the air..... The slower pace stop/start causes people to hesitate. I give you another example on a Real estate auction that I attended with my Dad - and oh boy I was ready to crawl up into a hole and disappear on this one..... The auction was getting towards where my dad was comfortable in paying so he had to slow down the auction down, he asked the current bid and the Auctioneers replied, my dad turned around to FACE the crowd of bidders (this was an auction on the property/front lawn) and said in a very loud mocking voice “Given the condition of this property my final bid is $xxx and THAT’S IT!” - With an animated wave of arms up in the air and he stood there facing the crowd for what seemed like an excruciating long time. That single action stuffed the auction and my dad bought the property at the price he wanted. And here’s another gem, at Dealer auctions it worked a treat as the other dealers thought my Dad was a tosser and mostly gave up bidding on the vehicles my dad was bidding on so he got them at a better price or out of spite they over bid just to “get back at him” If someone from the Auction approaches you to calm you down so that the auction can get back to the pace they want - cause a scene, not enough to get thrown out but enough to draw attention from the bidding to the scene that is happening. You ask, are they discriminating against you? Is that the vehicle that was reported stolen last month? Also don’t forget in the property auction prices to ask the auctioneer in a loud voice and demand to know if the property has been treated for termites? Next question, spiders? Next question mold etc etc etc. The auctioneer will refer you to (whatever) but ignore that and keep asking those stalling questions - it works...and that is lesson one in how to turn the auction process to your advantage.

Nobody cares. A 15+ old Honda with that mileage isn't worth more than $3500. Especially late 2000's Honda cars which were build extra cheap and were far less reliable.

It's a solid diesel engine that is extremely reliable as long as the owner can manage the basic responsibility of paying someone to change the oil. Nowhere near as braindead ignorant as the people that pay a 30%+ premium for a used Toyota truck with similar age and mileage.

I bet I can wait longer than the dealers can....not budging until prices down another 25%.

​@hochhaul that 3.0L babymax diesel motor is not as reliable as the 6.6L Duramax. It isn't uncommon to see them requiring significant maintenance after 150k. Lots of videos showing the issues.

2005 is300 lexus RWD i6 270k original everything even belts but radiator is new and i rebuilt the alternator before it failed best engine ever i do need to do cam seals and camshaft belt bearing as it time oil leaking but thats not hard just time

99% of Subaru owners would never attempt such a job and would be left financially devastate if they had purchased a Subaru and had to pay someone to do that job.
