It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!

I was a gang member at 13 years old and did not stop participating in that type of behavior until I was about 22, I naturally self reflected and matured; I wanted change. I did get change, I left the street life and joined a union trade and now earn a 6 figure salary. I thought it was enough, but it wasn’t… I was still empty inside and even though I wasn’t gang affiliated anymore I was having a addiction to smoking marijuana, porn, lust, sleeping around, etc. I’m Mexican American. So I grew up with Catholic parents just somehow fell into atheism… or more like agnosticism. I don’t know why I’m sharing this lol I’ve never shared it with anyone besides my wife. My mom used to always bless me with the sign of the cross before I would leave my house and I now truly believe God watched over me; I’ve tasted near death experiences with gang violence so many times it made me numb. I feel so horrible that I used to be annoyed with my mother but her prayers saved me. Fast forward to 24 years old, I met a amazing woman. Mind you, during this time I was already trying to reach out to God and learn more about Catholicism. On our first date, she asked me “Do you believe in God?” I said yes I do but I can’t help but feel skepticism sometimes. We started going to mass together and it changed everything! I’m 28 now, married, with a 13 month old daughter. I recently discovered the Latin Mass and it fulfilled my heart deeply, I have a purpose; I have God and my family.

I had to delete my original Tumblr Account when I came out as a Catholic back in 2019/2020. I mostly had lgbt-affirming followers back then, because I was also LGBT-affirming back then until 2020. And they basically mass-reported me and constantly send me hate like 24/7. And not even disabling the anon function helped. I remade my Tumblr in March 2020 and it's mostly Catholic-Themed and focuses on my struggles with my identity etc. and the Catholic/Protestant Community I builed is such a blessing.

I find it funny that you had to “come out” as Catholic but Im practically doing that right now. Got a lot of Atheist/new age friends that are deep into lefty politics so I’m a little nervous to go back to Uni. Gunna be a lot of talks for sure. Glad to hear you came to God, God bless you.

I have watched so many of your videos and love them, even though I'm not Catholic and could be your mother. Haha. I've always been protestant but lately drawn to Catholic channels because I see most protestants following the world more the Word. Thank you and keep up the good work!! You are very brave for having the courage of your convictions. Many people have very strong opinions about the Catholic Church, without actually knowing anything about it. Stick with it, and I am sure that your faith and ministry will go from strength to strength.

It was really helpful to hear the perspective that haters are there for you to pray for them. It's like they probably aren't getting much prayers in their life so God uses us as a tool to bring them closer to him. That's really going to help me the next time someone's driving recklessly.

I can't even fathom how good your heart is to pray for haters!! The only time I mention abusive people in my prayers is when I pray that they meet justice for their evil deeds, or meet me in a back alley and repeat the ad-hominem they spewed while hiding behind a phone 🤨

C.S. Lewis went into this question in an essay, "The Trouble With X." He pointed out that we should be charitable towards people who treat us badly because what they are to us us is who we are to God!

When I converted to Orthodoxy from the Prostestant church I lost a lot of family and friends. Some of them stayed friends but they don't talk to me and tell me they are praying for me. My mom gets questioned and she doesn't know what to tell them besides I trust they are doing the right thing and love God. But your tip on know your faith is so right! We need to know what we are otherwise they will tell us what they think and its all untrue.

I never met protestants that were hateful except for one woman who thought she might’ve been being kind by telling me I was going to hell if I wasn’t born again online. But that was online and you really shouldn’t discuss. Someone else’s religion through social media.

I’ve been Catholic in someway or form since birth and I’m in my 60s and I have to say I haven’t received very much heat at all because I just don’t talk about religion that much at work or talk about it with people who are mature enough to be respectful. When a Jehovah witness comes to my door they are always respectful. Give me a pamphlet. I tell them I’m Catholic and we depart ways and I recycle. I’ve seen the Hasidic Jews in my neighborhood get a lot more hate than I have so I am very empathetic and also Muslims. People are pro-life who aren’t Catholic but I think Catholics stick out because they talk about it differently. I would never preach to my gay coworkers, which I’ve always worked with since I was 20 years old, that their lifestyle is wrong, because it’s not my place to tell them something like that, and they didn’t ask my opinion. If someone said our church pushed them away I try to tell them divorce isn’t forbidden it’s remarriage without annulment. I don’t think everyone is Catholic around me but I do recommend Bishop Barron and Fr Mike

There seems to be hate in every comment thread these days. It's sad. I think a lot of it seems to stem from pain and jealousy and self loathing...these people obviously don't have a lot going in their own lives and are jealous over the joy and blessings in the lives of others...or they are projecting the way they feel about themselves onto others. Poor souls...they are hurting and in need prayer too. I agree we may need to set firmer boundaries or block them for our own mental health if need be, for our own mental health, but we absolutely must give them grace and avoid the bitterness and we should remember them in our prayers.

Women on the internet always, always, always get attacked for their looks, especially if they are actually very attractive. The people who launch these attacks aren't trying to win an argument, they are just trying to hurt and wound you personally because it makes them feel powerful. They get off thinking that you're reading their words and being hurt by them. It's sick and twisted and people who do such things ought to reflect on the damage it does to their souls.

I'm in the process of converting to Catholicism and starting to apply to colleges this year. I was wondering if you had any advice on different Catholic universities? I was looking at Franciscan and Christendom but I would love to hear the opinion of someone who's been Catholic/around Catholics since I come from a non-denominational family. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello, i got posts of your content on instagram, even though i didn’t follow anything catholic. I was baptised in Catholic Church and followed it for better or worse, since i was a little child. When i was a young adult i got drawn to philosophy and studied it for only a year, because i didn’t like how ethics taught there were without a God. Then i decided to study theology (catholic), but also only for a year, because my illness kicked in and i was unable to function and therefore, study. My whole life i have been suffering from schizophrenia, but when i was in my early twenties, it got so bad, that i couldn’t live my normal life with it. I refused the treatment, because i was hearing a voice of God guiding me to do so, telling me also that i got possessed. When at last i got treatment, i stopped hearing it and lost my faith because of that. In my meditation though, i started experiencing Goddess, the Mother, and because of that i gained interest in different religions, because what that presence taught me, is that as long as there is reason, understanding and love in a spiritual path, it can be fruitious. To the point, i think that you are a wonderful example of Catholic Faith and although because of you, i won’t be going back to it myself (or maybe i will be, who knows : )), it’s nice to see such a clean example of nice spiritual person, that is down to earth. I really appreciate the video but I still think you're missing the elephant in the room: the child sex abuse scandal. Until we acknowledge that the abuse of children is currently the biggest barrier in most people's minds to being Catholic, we're kind of dancing around the issue. I've yet to find a succinct and effective way to talk about this issue... partly because it's so horrifying and complicated. Part of what's so frustrating is when I express any (what I would call righteous) anger at the issue, I'll get Catholics calling me uncharitable and unforgiving. The back biting, confusion and division on how to talk about the sex abuse scandal is our apologetics Achilles' Heel.

I agree the sex scandals are absolutely terrible and they are hard to deal with as a Catholic. However, sex scandles happen is schools, protestant denominations, clubs, and other places too. You have a right to be upset but it isn't right to single out the Catholic Church when those other places are 5% more likely to have sex abuse/scandals.

@@TheReligiousHippie I think the difference in all my talks with religious is that Catholics have always held themselves up higher than the other religions and we’re supposed to be the first and the best, so of course, things fall harder on them when they go astray. There are still cases in the news and I cringed many years ago when a priest and EWTN said it’s over now, because it’s never over because humans are humans. Actually, the crisis kept me from the church for a while, because when I looked at all the priests who actually admitted it in the Boston papers, and then there were the ones who were just accused and the ones they had evidence on, but hadn’t been convicted yet and it made me beyond angry. I think of the children who were left with a legacy of distrust and hate and how do you rectify that?

@@TheReligiousHippie Right, but most heated criticism of the Catholic Church surrounding the sex abuse scandal (that I’ve heard) has been their response of covering it up and relocating priests. That’s where most of the anger directed at the Catholic Church is in my experience their handling of abuse. I also think public schools are causing many to reject the faith. In my history class we were learning about Catholicism and the Protestant reformation and the material was biased against Christianity and especially Catholicism portraying the Church as genocidal, anti-science, and sexist. So that certainly doesn’t help and definitely influences young minds against Christianity.

Church itself cannot save you, religion cannot save you. Only one who can save you is God. Repenting of sins, baptism, knowing word of God and be led by the Spirit and not comform the flesh(sin). Our minds, toughts and actions needs to be on knowing God and his word intimately.
