As the Australian outback heats up, I come across a group of camels, a sign that the summer camel migration is underway. With many more camel tracks around the station, it's crucial to keep their numbers in check. In this video, I discuss the impending camel invasion and ask for your advice on the best firearms and optics for the job.
Equipped with my reliable Australian International Arms M10-B1 7.62, I take action to protect our valuable resources and prevent camels from competing with our livestock for feed and water. Join me in this crucial mission to maintain the delicate balance of the outback ecosystem. Share your thoughts in the comments below on how we can effectively manage this challenge.

I heard that said also and rolled my eyes! I have since 1978 been a professional hunting guide with work in Alaska offering Brown bear hunts & Yukon Moose hunts. If I had such a garbage rifle as that 303 I would be dead today. I build to sell custom rifles and my AR 10s do not get handed over to the buyer into they have been shot repeatedly to check functioning. Even my AR 10 rifles in the WSM magnum chambers do not fail. My own AR 10 I hunt with is chambered in 375-300WSM and all the bugs are worked out so as fast as you can stand to pull the trigger it cycles those Hugh 375-300WSM cartridges,

@@vasilisouris4853 You need to take a closer look at the PPU loaded ammo because those aren't 308-win ammo. Those are long round nose bullets and even the 303 cartridge is apparent from the rim and tapered case. If you want to insist those are 308 cartridges from your gun experiences from playing video war games have at it.

As a Scottish guy who's just found your channel I would add my tuppence worth to the scope input. I've done a few European driven boar days with Swaro Z6i 1-6x24 or 2-12x50 if there was a chance of a night in a high seat afterwards. You can bang the red dot up to be daylight visible or not more than a glimmer at night. It has withstood hundreds of rounds of 7x64 and never given an ounce of trouble. It has loads of eye relief. It is spendy but it will last a long time and Swarovski stand behind their products superbly well with warranty claims. I think the little 1-6x24 would do you well as a daytime sight without adding a great deal of weight or volume to your rig. Any-ho that's just my humble opinion. Great videos, great work, regards from Scotland.

Sorry for any misspelling Keep up the good work your doing 🤠

I actually thought that camel might kick you when you fired from your position right behind him. I'm in the US and just found your channel. It looks like the 7.62/308 is doing just fine on the camels. I thought the Springfield M1A SOCOM in 308 would be nice for this type of shooting but it may be a tad heavier than your AIA. Tbh from what I can see from where I’m at majority of that rifles issues are ammo creeping forward in the magazine causing poor feeding. New magazines and some File work on the feed ramp would clear that all up. And drop the spire points and switch to a heavier round nose projectile, it will take up free space in the front of the magazine After watching some of your videos I kinda wish we had a camel crisis here in Canada lol.
@jack_out_the_back
@jack_out_the_back 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm tentative to file the feed ramp, but I have ID'd it as a problem. New magazines for this platform are tricky here, being an M1a/M14 type. I'll take them apart and see what I can do. Yep, round nose would feed a lot better.
@randomidiot8142

Some tweaking of the feed lips to change the presentation can help a lot to. The answer isn't always feed ramp. My old .22 pistol has no feed ramp. The magazine feed lips control the cartridge presentation. That was a good learning experience. I don't file lips, just bend them.

A great display of fitness and commitment there, but the point of a rifle (IMHO) is to let the bullet do the legwork! That's not just about the choice of rifle, optic and ammo, but also about the support. When you don't have a handy camel to rest on, you could do worse than having a set of carbon-fibre quad sticks to hand. Very little weight, rock steady shooting, and fine to trot along with - though once you've got a set you won't have to cover so much ground! Keep the great videos coming!

Well said and wise comments, I have had heat stroke working remote, body temp was 40.5, I was well hydrated, the water has to be cold to reduce body temp. Hits you very quick, first thing that happened was legs lost strength, then collapsed. Your AIA 308 is a good choice, accurate enough for camels, with high volume shooting recoil is manageable, unlike 300Win after 20 shots quickly you would of had enough, I would carry two rifles both bolt action 10 shot mag, 308(volume shooting) & 300Win(500m shots) both with medium varmint profile barrels 22mm at muzzel for extra weight 24", 150grn SP 2800 fps, this load would shoot flat enough to 350m, buy a quality scope(leupold standard duplex recticle or mi dot) and mounts(steel) 3-14, or fixed 6x(308), a scout Leupold Pig Plex(1-4) would be good, better than a Red Dot. Mates have been helicopter shooters back in the BTEC days, L1AI did not standard up to heavy use and was worn out/unreliable after 5K shots, the pick was Springfield M1A. Test your ammo at 100/200/300m for drop, you will be surprised how quicky 180grn factory 308 drop after 200m. I have cull shot donks & horse but no camel experience.

As a custom rifle builder and since 1978 a professional Alaskan hunting guide you make the same ignorant mistake as all others who are ignorant about firearms. Accuracy isn't made by the cartridge and the 308 isn't any more accurate than any other cartridges. It takes quality made barrels - ridged actions - quality machining to make barrels and precises made actions to get accuracy. It also takes quality bullets - brass - primers and types of powders that make good accuracy or bad accuracy. For example, people like you with about zero experiences in quality guns and ammo like to say the 7.62x39 Cartridge is a bad accurate cartridge but when fired from rifles like the CZ carbine or the Ruger bolt rifle or from one of my AR 15s using a Pac Nor super match barrel the 7.62x39 cartridge becomes accurate to win shooting matches. Another cartridge if talked about by ignorant fools like you who would call it an inaccurate bad cartridge would be the 6.5x50 Jap but I am chambering Pac Nor super match barrels in 6.5x50 Jap for the AR 10 that if I ever shot in a match shoot I would either win the match or be in the top shooters. With factory Norma or PPU ammunition my AR 10s I chambered in 6.5x50 jap can easy shoot at 200 yards 1/4 inch groups. Another factor in accuracy is High end chamber reamer I get from Pacific Tool & Guage. Using one of the AR 10s in a 300 WSM or 325 WSM on those Camels would be total hell on them! The AR 10 - 20 round magazine holds 9 WSM magnum cartridges. When hunting with my own AR 10 in 375 - 300 WSM magnum I am loading 6 cartridges in a 20-round magazine and that is way more than needed with the 375 - 300 WSM is an identical match to the 375 H&H magnums for power.

@@Lure-Benson I think you are the one who is ignorant about what is being done here, it is culling, it is about numbers, no one is using match rifles with custom reamers, or shooting WSM cartridges. Most culling is done with a 308 because it does the job and is relatively cheap to run when you are shooting hundreds of animals per day not guiding hunters to one animal a day.
@Lure-Benson
@Lure-Benson 5 ай бұрын
@@ntdanny Well Ghee what else you want to tell me I already know this is culling not hunting and not guiding! If you knew anything about actual firearms not what you learned from playing those Video war games - you would know something about reloading ammunition that is cheaper than buying loaded ammo. with you Not having any at all hands-on experiences with firearms I have to tell you those Camels far out there looking back at the sounds of shooting they would be dead meat using a well-made rifle in 7 mm WSM - 300 WSM - 325 WSM - 7 mm Rem mag - 7 mm RUM - 300 RUM - 300 Wby mag - 338 win mag would be lights out on any Camel. Not only I am a professional hunting guide from back in 1978 I also build and sell custom rifles and have my own line to sell of AR 10 uppers in WSM chamberings and wildcat cartridges for the AR 10. Also, for in the US today's ammunition prices don't differ from Magnum cartridge to standard non magnum cartridges proving again you have Zero experiences with firearms. I just seen at a Cabalas store PPU 8 mm Mauser & PPU 308 ammo side by side on the shelf per box was $42.00 the Box of Hornaday 300-win mag ammo was $35.00 so tell me again how non magnum ammo is cheaper than magnum ammo.

@@Lure-BensonSuch superb in depth knowledge should be treasured, along with the game management, knowledge etc wisdom around pest control so prevalent among guides. The few exceptions do earn respect, incidentally. However if being cheap, nasty but effective find out what the professional pest control workers who are well experienced & effective use, and what they'd buy again. And who their favourite gunsmiths are. Might need to be diplomatic how to get that information, as many will have all sorts of fun providing information to those that haven't earned respect.

Interesting to see vermin shooting in this environment, so different from personal experience. For orientation, laminated hard copy topo map is useful when mis-mothered & needing to think it out. A quality brand compass isn't affected by cloud cover or flat batteries/electronic failure or satellite scrambling. They fit around the neck on a string & stay there. A compact EPIRB kept on the body with backup attachment (it's no good in a bag etc that has been put down, or getting accidentally unclipped off the belt somewhere else, real incidents that happened) is good insurance. A 4x scope is good for any range. Used them from bailed pigs to tahr/chamois at 3-400m & more. Vari's do help with sniping and scanning/detail if it's a very good quality one. Training the brain to shoot with other eyes open is the trick. MIght need to squint depending on which eye is dominant. quality mounts are essential, & usually use conetrol if possible. They'll deal direct, & are very helpful. Only exception to the 4x was aerial shooting, found the aimpoint dot faster. Helped on tahr it seemed, they bounce about a bit & there can be a lot happening at once. Very different to what the Aussie situation seems to be, would probably be comfortable with the 4x. A telescopic monopod (can be carried in a pouch on the belt) might help. Offhand shooting when puffing is difficult, & it provides a rest. Needs to be about armpit height (length extended). A bipod is better, 2 12mm poles chin height hinged together 75mm from the end. Both more portable than the sports store versions. They'd give you another 50m range, which could save a lot of running around used effectively.

Could be, like me and many other Aussies, we grew up with an empty chamber Is safe. It cant accidentally fire no matter what happens. A safety catch is, "it Should be ok" but there is no guarantee it wont fire. No matter how good the factory safety is, I Never use one. I just dont trust it with my or other's life. Open bolt, lever etc or visibly checked empty chamber.

Because of your laws being so.. ugh.. probably leaning towards a Merkel or Blaser in .308 to start. Are switch barrels kosher? 1-4x for close and 4-16x for long in good QD mounts. I like my r93. It's an old tactical and too heavy to run with though. Too much glass also. I'm a spoiled American so I have many for niche jobs instead of few utility rifles. Hope it gets better for all of us. Cheers.

Hey Jack. Not familiar with your Ausi calibres but a 308 Winchester or 30-06 would be my choices. I’ve been watching your videos and see a real feed problem with your clips. I would try adjusting the lips on the clip or even buying a new clip if possible. The front of the bullet is jamming into the feed ramp it seems. The front of the case (bullet) isn’t going high in the clip to feed properly. Any gunsmiths or handyman/rifle buff around to look at it? The would make me crazy if my rifle had that problem. Good hunting.
