This festool plunge saw has seen a few to many hot suppers.
The motor burnt out, but the customer kept going until it also burnt up the field, brush holders and housing.
These festool saws are expensive to buy, but replacing all these parts still worked out less than half the cost of a new one.
Festools can be quite complicated to work on, and the handle on this model has quite a few levers and springs that need to be assembled just right.

3 days and the Festool haters and Festool fanboys have yet to leave five thousand comments. A nice change of pace.

And to all the idiot framers leaving stupid comments: ITS NOT A FRAMING SAW - ITS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO BREAK DOWN SHEETS WITH A GUIDE RAIL. And for that specific purpose to which it was designed - it works extremely well and is actually quite hard to kill. You cant go to site anywhere in europe without seeing them absolutely everywhere. And for good reason. They're not easy to kill - it takes patience and effort to burn a motor like that ....

You put a saw like that on a UK job site and contractors will burn it out on day 1.... Very specific job they do and bulk work isn't it... Weird how a £150 DeWalt wouldn't melt the holders clean out with alittle hard work 😂

@dean Doherty, do you have any advice on whether the fields should be replaced at the same time as the armature if the fields appear to be fine? My armature has an obvious burn spot, but nothing else does.
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 5 ай бұрын
no, unless the field is also discoloured, burnt or melted, it should be fine.

Some people manage to break everything with brute force. I just wonder: is there no temperature sensor near the motor to shut the saw off and save it from burning out?

In what way would that be beneficial to the manufacturer?
@thibaultmerlin
@thibaultmerlin 5 ай бұрын
I think they can't really do that because there is many parts that can be damaged by heat so it's difficult for the manufacturer to put effective thermometers so they put 0 because otherwise if anything burn the customer could claim the machine is faulty since it is supposed to stop itself when overheating and get a refund. IDK it's just my bs theory.

Well not owning any festool equipment I don’t have a dog in this race but the equipment doesn’t look like it was meltreated but all that plastic doesn’t allow for good heat transfer

No I don't do warrenty repairs for festool. I wouldn't be a fan of festool but their spare parts are very well priced. So replacing a motor is well worth it.

I have one of those saws and they are incredibly accurate on a track. Very expensive tool, but well worth it if you build fine furniture. I can’t believe that someone burned it up like that!

Well....what caused the it to be in a condition like that , he must have been cutting hardwoods with that blade , pushing it hard or not letting the saw do the cutting .

The control board is pretty overzealous on that tool (although the thermal shutoff is bit slow compared to recent cordless tools, heard of people torching the 110v models before the thermal switch kicked in). Didn’t get a clear view of the field windings. Extreme weather conditions or a hard enough drop could crack some copper wire and bob’s your uncle.

@@trigHow are they not as good? I’ve got a TSC 55 KEB and it’s way better than this saw. It has much better balance due to the batteries offsetting the motor weight, and it also has antikickback stop which definitely works as it has worked for me on a few occasions. I absolutely love my saw and think it was worth every penny..

TS55REQ poor plastics and design of waste hose swivel mech compared to the earlier saw of the same model. Safety switch wears with time and binds. My first saw, early model, lasted 5 years the second revised/improved model lasted two & half years doing 6M of rip cutting in 35mm thick european oak per working day. I have just purchased a new TS55REQ and I cant see that there has been any improvement in the plastics or design but this will only tell with time.@@HarveyJohnWillmott

I personally can't stand festool metric arbor and the plunge saw I used had a build in breaker that shut motor off in order to protect it. Don't bring these saws to a construction site you will get your ass kicked
