This is the Full Scary Twitter Story of Dear David by Adam Ellis. One of the first scary Twitter stories I ever read. It's such a great story, which was so popular it ended up being made into a movie. Let's not talk about that though ;)

It's funny because he asked the question but didn't say "Dear David" It's almost as if David was trying to pressure or back him into a scenario where he'd panic and ask multiple questions in the proper fashion.

lol i remember when this was viral, i always was kind of proud of the guy for managing to make something new and creative after just getting out of a creatively stifling job. in hindsight the writing isn't all that great especially in comparison to newer horror story threads, but it's still a good bit of fun ^u^

@@nothanks1746 well i'll get the obvious ones out of the way: in my opinion, the sun vanished, gr3gory88, doppelgänger by manuel bartual and ESPECIALLY weird birds by archesuchus are MUST reads. i don't know if it really counts but i am personally in love with the ryan thread. not sure if ppl know it by a different name but it's essentially a thread about someone dogsitting a potentially haunted house, very cool and fun. tom taylor's thread on his haunted cabin is really incredible, and i wish it went more viral than it did. (or if it did, i didn't notice 😅) really great read red monkey is also an interesting one, and i think more people should talk about it and the last one i can think of off the top of my head is probably the strayedaway voicemail incident. afaik that one kind of ends on a cliffhanger or was shut down rather abruptly, i can't remember, but it was still a fun ride while it lasted there's unfortunately not a good archive/collection of all of the horror twitter threads out there so i'm sure many are missing, but we should enjoy the ones we find to the best of our ability :)

this story haunted me for years. every night when i stayed up past 12 i was CONVINCED he would pop up at the end of my bed and just watch me. & i made myself think that even thinking of him would summon him and then i couldn’t stop thinking about him - it was a viscous cycle. i’m gonna watch this whole story so maybe it resolves that forgotten trauma 😭.

I was around 12-13 when “Dear David” begun. My parents thought it was so freaky, and I remember them just talking about it, loving the story and waiting for the next post to come out. I specifically have a strong memory of them talking about it and I asked “What’s happening now?” And they were talking about when he had the dream and took the photos at night, only to wake up and see the photos on the phone the next day (which I’ll admit I’ve had nightmares about that in the past, definitely a terrifying thing). I forgot about it after a while as my parents stopped talking about it around me, probably when he got the app to take photos at night. They didn’t want to scare me. (I was a bit of a wimp as a kid, that stuff would keep me up at night for weeks.) I just watched this video as it popped up in my recommended and I really wanted to hear the story. 7 years later. This has got to be one of the best horror stories out there. The way it was through a twitter post, the way you could comment on it, and the wait in between posts was a one of a kind of experience.

It did unravel the story, all that David did is kill his father, his mother just placed him in a coma when she slammed the monitor on him, he had a dent on his head.

I remember hearing of this when it started and it still wasn’t known if this was “real” or not. It really drew you in but then kinda floundered a bit toward the end.

I hear water in the background that is very bad. That means you have a leak in your sink that’s very bad if you keep that on it could cause black mold, if you keep it in a dark space.

I remember this when it was new. Honestly these social media horror stories like Dear David, Weird Birds, The Sun Vanished or even Marble Hornets back in 2009 are always a treat for how they handle horror differently. It is a shame it stopped so abruptly. I guess that between the movie and the writer stopping working for BuzzFeed is what led to it unfortunately. Speaking of the movie, I also was surprised to see that it finally came out to little fanfare last year, despite the negative reviews I guess I'll catch up to that just so I can finally see it.

I've believed this since I was younger and I found it as a creepy pasta so to see it in its entirety was cool asf. Nothing prepared me for the first photo of David, jaw DROPPED. I'd like to keep the idea that this is real though lol even just for childhoods sake.

I remember all these posts, but I'm not so sure on the last one. Mom used to follow this guy on Twitter until what she thought the story was "ridiculous" (yet again she thinks the house is haunted by ghosts who we never born) .People argue whether or not the story is real, and I am skeptical on it. How he performed some of the odd things can be explained, like the author used a doll, etc. The Polaroid Camera thing is the one I can't think of an explanation with. I am open to discussion in the comments.

This guy is actually a cartoonist, so it probably is fake. He's clearly a creative type. Good story, though!

The Polaroids being black is something Polaroid sheets do when you buy a new packet sometimes. Also the creator of this did reveal it was all fake so there’s your answer for knowing if it was real or not
