Good work there. I just want to add that in the original material, Kira means "Killer", it is just the japanization of the word killer, how a japanese would pronounce it. Light was "The Killer" = "Kira"

And even more inportant, Watari is the founder of the orphanage in the forest. You'd need Near's successor because Near was too damn genius + he already would have experience with Death Note. And I would put in two main protagonists, similar couple to Light and Misa, but where the guy is probably somewhat haunted by all of the bad stuff happening in the world. Maybe because he is a cop. And he gets this Death Note. But later on he is found out by this intelligent woman working for example as forensic pathologist for some bigger organization like FBI, CIA or shit. Then you'd have this moment of tension when the guy is willing to actually kill her personally but she reveals that she wants to help him because she thinks he is overall doing good for the world. And thus you have this main couple, a ruthless willing to kill man and intelligent but a bit nervous woman who both have this screwed up sense of justice. And then Near's successor steps up. He doesn't have experience with Death Note but has some of the notes (haha) from Near before he departed or died. He is still a genius but maybe a little bit young and way over his head. He dealt with criminals that had normal weapons and such he knows how to catch some but not with magical weapons like Death Note. The nickname for the guy killing people with Death Note would be Kira in honor of Light Yagami. Because he is a cop and maybe even gets promoted he has some of information about Light Yagami and can actually screw with people making them think that original Kira came back. I'd add also that he doesn't necessary develop god complex more like he views himself in similar fashion as Teru Mikami from original Death Note, that he is only a Kira-worshipper himself or like the archbishop for Kira. He doesn't want his own fame he just wants the justice for the wicked.

After Watari died, how many days/hours was L up at the time. The kid couldn't sleep without Watari to tell him. His unraveling is justified.

That's actually an excellent point and I hadn't thought of that. People do start going bonkers after even a day or so without sleep, and it could've been several days for all we know.

I don't know where you got the idea that there aren't enough asians in america unless you came to that conclusion based off of what you see on tv. There are asians all over but larger populations of people of the same race tend to live in concentrated areas so it's 100% realistic yeah I must be delusional if i'm not uncomfortable with an all asian cast listen to yourself you're saying I must be out of my mind if I don't think an all asian cast in a movie based off of ANIME/MANGA would be jarring. I think it's safe to say people who'd be interested in watching this would know what to expect and wouldn't be shocked by an all asian cast (even though the source material is Japanese )
