Such personnel shall be respected and protected. So, in fact, no matter what Israel says, it has fundamentally breached article 71(2) of AP 1. Because, clearly, Israel was, in fact, failing in its basic duty to protect relief personnel, even if the BS about the "gunmen" at the warehouse was actually true. Because, in truth, Israel is under an obligation to get its own people in there to protect the personnel of those relief columns - an obligation it is clearly ignoring (never mind that actually attacking such personnel completely contradicts that obligation) Then there are the complex calculations with respect to the protection and targeting of civilians that also applies. And, without going into detail, the explanations of the IDF on that point do not appear to exonerate them. This is all comes down to the number one issue: if the IDF was fighting and operating in Gaza within the boundaries of applicable law it would be taking massive casualties. And no Israeli government could afford that, so the law goes out the window. Thats the reality western political "leaders" are turning a blind eye to. What many people maybe do not realise is that, in addition to the very obvious breaches of international law Israel has committed in the course of killing people, Israel is also in breach of a massive number of provisions of the geneva conventions and the additional protocols; from the protection of hospitals to the protection and handling of orphans under 15. There is an avalanche of breaches of international humanitarian law going on on a daily basis. The international criminal tribunal for the former territory of Yugoslavia convicted many many people for a far smaller number of crimes. And it seems this is being completely ignored by our politicians and most western politicians.

The thing is Aukus theoretically assists Australia in becoming "independent" from the "bullies." International politics has never been about morality unfortunately but about self interest. Its very cold and pragmatic in that regard. However people feel, Until Australia gets its own nuclear power, and has a diverse enough economy to be self-reliant, it will always be at the mercy of whatever country is the superpower. In the coming decades it looks like multiple countries in SEA will become superpowers. And there are jobs being created, just not as much as in the US. If we had better manufacturing capability there would be more jobs.
