I mean toilets are literally designed for sitting down. To not sit down on them is to use them wrong. You're not supposed to spray piss half your bathroom every time. In public spaces you'll have urinals. Those are for standing up

I grew up in the 70th (born 68) and as far as I remember no woman shaved under their arms or their legs at that time... that came much later und is nowadays very normal - in the 70th it was not. Remember that the woman wore long skirts and always had to cover their sholders - at least until WW1. Skirts slowly got shorter and the mini came up in the 60th. And slowly with the fashion the shaving changed. That's at least what I think. 🤔

This armpit grooming trend emerged in the 1990s when young men became more conscious of hygiene and personal care products, which, from my perspective, wasn't a significant concern in the 1970s and 1980s. In my social circle at the time, most teenagers engaged in grooming practices, but it wasn't shaving; it was more about trimming body hair using a longhair trimmer. Many also groomed their eyebrows and got rid of hair on their backs. However, I never encountered someone who shaved their legs, except for swimmers. Now, in my 40s, I still trim my armpits and eyebrows, but I've given up on removing the hair from my back.

I am 61 yrs old and live in America. Back in the eighties, in my early 20s, I was friend's with a very beautiful young German women about my age. I can attest and confirm that at that time, she did not shave her arm pits nor her legs. We went to the pool together many times and i noticed this to be the case. She also confirmed to me that most, if not all, German women did not shave these areas back then. This must be a change that has happened in the last 30 or so years. She did however definitely use deodorant to which I can also personally attest to as well.

I'm using deodorant daily. However I'm using only ones that are quite decent. The clouds of perfume around some people are a real nuisance. Many years ago I preferred to go to a very good bakery which was offering excellent fresh bread. However one employee was putting on a very heavy perfume and often failed to wash her hands thoroughly enough to avoid transferring the smell on the bread she was touching. It was leaving such an awful taste on the bread that I gave a hint to her co-workers. However it didn't change much. So I ended up peeking into the shop through the window to see if she was there and if so I decided to buy bread somewhere else. BTW, it's not only women doing that. A few times I happened to be waiting behind a man at a cash counter in a supermarket getting the impression some kind of "chemical warfare" was going on.

I do shave my armpits, and for a simple reason: I sweat a lot, and of course I use deodorants, but hair provides a very large surface area for sweat and the bacteria which break down the sweat and cause the smell. So I shave it, deodorant lasts longer, everyone around me is happy.

Education and intelligence do make a difference in how you can interact with each other, but there are "Hauptschul"-students with a heart of gold and university people who make everyone feel uncomfortable. The personality matters. As a German man I'd love to stand to pee actually, but I feel like there's a social stigma to it.

Concerning the deodorant topic. Other KZfaqrs said, that stronger perfume is more common in english speaking countries. No clue if this is correct. There could be a misconception that perfume smell shows how hygienic a person is. There are so many neutral deodorants on the market for people with sensitive skin. It's possible that a person with no perfume around her supposed to have no deodorant on..

Men today even waxe their chests. I am not a fan of extremely chest hair, but nothing it don`t also like. Good old times, when male stars had open shirts and chest hair like Sean Connery, Magnum, the Gibb brothers, Kiss....! Today most chests of men are full of tattoos!

Shaved armpits men & women: Armpit hair serves the same function for men and women. And it does have a function, so shaving it off isn't really warranted for any gender. But if someone does shave, then it probably serves the same purpose for any gender again. So why should women do it, but not men, or the other way around? Humans come with hair on their bodies, that is natural, so shaving it off is a purely cosmetic choice (armpits, legs, arms ... whatever). And that choice can be made by any gender. That is how I see it. In many countries it is a cultural thing in other countries a cosmetic issue that kind of became cultural. I actually don't care for hair or no hair, but I do care about body odor and for some people shaving their armpits helps with that. I am amazed though that this actually a topic! Most likely. a transference from what one is used to and considers the norma and then might be surprised that what is the norm in one country might not be the norm in another country, I don't think I have ever given it a thought before, which is a good thing, because that should not be a topic at all. Deodorant: yes, you are right, deodorants in Germany are different from especially North America and apparently also NZ (so probably also Australia). However, there is a neat trick. Mix some vinegar with water in a bottle. Use this with a cotton pad (or similar) on your armpits after you showered and before you use your deodorant. The vinegar mixture does destroy the bacteria (that normally lives in the hair) in the armpits, thus eliminating odor and with the absence of bacteria odor does not develop. Sweat in itself dies not smell, it is the bacteria that makes it smell. Men sitting down when peeing: Good heavens! Yes, finally the do it! I mean who wants to clean up the mess! Intellectual snobs: I don't know, I have a higher school education than my partner, it has never been an issue. Neither with friends, there are all kinds of backgrounds and skill sets. We have never thought about it.

Shaved arm pits Seems to be a generation thing. In the 80's you would see more women with unshaved arm pits. I think it got more common in the 90's but you would have seen still, girles there about 20 with unshaved arm pits. Men followed a few years later. But I guess these are more the generation born around / after 1990.
