I remember this day but i was very young

I was born that year too, in March

I thought it was fascinating and saved newspapers from the next day, the empty bottle of champagne and a few other items. The biggest thing was the buildup to that moment. Years spent focused on getting computers converted to a 4 digit year. We always referred to the year as 2 digits for my whole life leading up to that point. No one ever said 1983, 1995. It was simply 83. Or 95. Computers only had 2 digit dates since their invention because memory and storage capacity was so limited so programmers saved that space and no one used 4 digits for the year anyway. My wife was a software tester and she was heavily involved in project teams working on the conversation since 94 or 95. Many corporations were still using main frames from the 60s in the mid 90s. So this night all that build up was over. It took me 6 months to get used to writing 2000 for the date. This party was church friends so we went home after and toasted with champagne.

I remember it a bit, the Y2K paranoia--people worried power plants and computers would all stop running, and the quiet sigh of relief afterwards. the energy and excitement of people wondering what will come next in the next 1000 years, people feeling like they were lucky to be alive when the big number flips over.

The 1999s and before ment, more time outside! Computers only really took off in that decade, internet even later. Most people were not using Computers, beside us Nerds ^^ So most people spent free time outside, in the sun! Dont forget: No smartphones! Only TV and Radio. I came from the former DDR, so even telefone was a thing of the future. If you wanted to meet friends, you had to run over to their house and ask them in person if they wanted to. Overall, RL was more important than madeup bullshit online. The world was a clean place, at least for us in the west lol Oh and everyone born after 2000 is not a real human, yet ^^

Also, the end of 1000 years ment, many doomcults. We all were not sure if we would REALLY survive 2000, in case all that electronic stuff would do stop to exist. Like blackouts ^^ Deathmetal rose in those last 10 - 20 years, look at Norway for example. Overall the feeling of the end of an era, and maybe of a lot of future!

There was a definite shift in energy, people were buzzing around and it felt like the dawn of a new era. The internet at that time was special, it felt exciting to be able to talk to people on the other side of the world and gain access to websites and forums, to connect with people in a new way (although that was happening in the late 90's too).

I was 12, about to hit my teenage years in the 2000s. The good ol' days, the best days of my life. As much as I love the 90s more than any decade, the years between 2000-2004 were the best years of my life. But the 90s as a whole were the best.

Sometimes i also wonder of returning back in past, but then i ask myself: there so many sad events what would happen later; isn't it's just immoral, to return back in time for your only entertainment, knowing that there so many people will lost in upcoming events? And you know you can't prevent most of them. This is why i stopped wish for such a things. I would not be able to carry such weight.

Anyone who looks at history could tell you that. The brief period when the cold war actually ended before it essentially restarted was the peak. 2001 was when that started to drop. The 2007 financial crisis sealed the deal. All driven by the military industrial complex and wallstreet.

Also, no smart phones so there was a lot more social interaction whether in person or just talking on the phone. The music was also better. It has devolved since then.

@DaBoomerYe I somewhat agree but also disagree. It's a pipe dream to get enough people to do that to the point it feels like the world around us is like it was then. But that being said you've essentially made a more modern version of the Amish lol. Unfortunately though it's not just the things you mention. You cannot undo 20+ years of military industrial complex control and corruption or political devils and death merchants running this country (and the world) into the dirt. When the Soviet Union fell a massive tension was alleviated. It felt like a time of peace despite the conflicts we were getting involved with in the middle east. 911 really brought that tension back and crushed stability. Then you have stuff like 2007 crash/bail outs, and to a lesser extent Occupy Wallstreet (people don't truly realize the implications of what happened there). The 90s was a brief period where it felt like "maybe everything is going to be alright". Now it just feels like Cold War volume 2.

Why would you want to go back to 2002? The years before were better in my opinion.

I feel the same, born in 1998, have a lot of fond childhood memories starting round 2002, luckily me and my twin brother were gifted with good memory - what I find annoying, is back in, say 2002, 1999 was only 3 years ago, things were pretty much the same and I didn't even realist how lucky I was to be there, how the first half of the 2000's was compared to late 2000's is just insane, up til about 2005, most people I knew still didn't have internet, we still used analog cameras and TV's, then suddenly in like 2007 everything suddenly become super digital and the old way of living disappeared in a flash!

I would not have believed it. I still thought texting would never catch on. They charged by the letter, though.
