Love Ghana... I grew up in the NYC also and currently live half the year in Ghana and the US.. Reality is Ghana needs the US diaspora as much as we need Ghana. It cost a ton of money to travel to Ghana in December and its unbelievable how many ppl pay that price to visit at a time when the cedi was in free-fall and the Gov't had no idea how to stop it.. Please be patient with the returnees it takes time to get the western aggression out of the system but the culture of Ghana does the job. It literally disarms you.. (speaking from experience).....

I actually think you are very new to Ghana sis. I was born and raised in Ghana. December has ALWAYS been party time for us. Tourists did not start this…social media has just made it visible. This is absolutely nothing new my good sis.. we’ve been partying at Twist and Tantra for decades 😂 Accra has always been the entertainment city. You spent your formative years in the states….the people of the coast are party people. ❤

Sorry to hear that people are losing focus. I think there should be some sort of seminar before you can enter Ghana🤔. It's not good to go just to be a reveler. Ghana has been very welcoming. Let's not be bad guest. Let's not take things for granted because things can change and believe it or not, we could end up being denied visas instead of being offered citizenship.

This whole video is disturbing, a 15:29 rant of divisive comments . African Americans have come to experience Ghana spiritually, enjoy themselves, and bridge the gap between our people. We have boosted the economy to spearhead development for the local economy and create opportunities for locals. The bad experience you had with one woman is the reason why we need to have conversations on the continent to educate our people. Could you imagine a European telling an American white person to come to England just for culture and not for entertainment? We are encouraging the diaspora to go to the continent instead of flying to Dubai, Latin America or Europe etc. Accra is the common area today as time goes on we can experience the other territories when they are ready to host tourists. Love Ghana the food, the culture and the people !!!

It needs to happen all year round, and yes I understand the wet season, I left at the beginning of Dec 21 after a month, but for friends living in Ghana, January is rough especially after Christmas, spread the love, keep those businesses going through the dry season. Whew, that music video😲🥴 I remember visiting Independence Square in 2010 for the first time. A security guard approached, he twisted my wrist and threatened to slam my small digital camera into the ground. He said I wasn't allowed to take photos. It was so disturbing and uncalled for. He could've asked me to stop taking photos instead of physically assaulting me. There were no signs saying pics weren't allowed. Anyways, it's interesting to see this "music video" partially filmed there.

I think it's pretty naive to believe that people are traveling all the way to Ghana on some cultural exchange trip, especially in December. Most people travel for a few reason: shopping, food, alcohol, partying and lounging on the beach. During the holiday season, even more so. So it's best to create a couple of spaces where locals and tourists can mingle, all while promoting sight seeing spots. Then there is the complaint that everyone is sticking to Accra is off, when Ghana has mostly made Accra its identity to the world. Not everyone is excited to drive, and it's even worse if you can't/don't drive, since there is barely any promotion of public transportation bith in the city, between cities or outside of the major cities. So everyone stays where they are most familiar. Prices going up is a logical consequence of tourists conglomerating in the same spots. If you want tourists in other regions, then it makes more sense to provide the means to reach it, and promote this methods of transportation. You can also help out in this area, because most videos I have seen, you either drove or took a taxi/Uber. The only thing I agree with is that people shouldn't be rude.

I've watched several videos of the partying mostly by our american brothers and sisters. Some were respectable, but many were shameful. One should know that when mostly deep pocket entertainers show up, their inner circle will show and bad things will follow. I hurt for our ancesters who were badly mistreated and violated just to have ignorant kids come over and basically tell them that they give less than a damn about what you went through. I truly hope and pray that our african brothers and sisters will resist the garbage that is trying to infiltrate our motherland. Great post Nana! Keep up the good work. Much Love Africa!

This video IS NOT IT! Whew You can’t complain throughout an entire video and then end with “it’s a joy seeing black ppl”😩 There’s nothing wrong with Ghana being the place where ppl want to come and party 2 weeks out of the ENTIRE year. Come on! This is coming from a Ghanaian who went to Marrakesh and wished this growth and exposure for Ghana. I’m happy it’s happening. We have 11 months to create cultural experiences that go beyond Accra and the truth is many are still experiencing the culture in December…you just need to go out of certain social circles to see it.

The other regions of Ghana have the opportunity to highlight more cultural aspects to bring more tourism and opportunity. It's too late Ghana in December is a thing now, like Salem in October or December in NYC ( went this year, what a nightmare). The government should not have let anyone film music videos at the palace so that's on them. Additionally, they need to fix the roads, provide better pubic transit ( Rwanda did it) and promote other areas in Ghana, period. I knew this would happen and the locals would get boxed out of things, simply because they cannot afford the prices or have the celebrity cache. My family is originally from Ghana and I wanted to go back and retire there but I keep hearing how expensive everything is now. I have to come back and finalize some family/ tribal obligations within the next year and I will have a look around and see what's what.

I don’t think it would be smart to be naive and believe that the hype of December in Ghana isn’t doing any harm. I don’t think it’s ALL bad but we can’t ignore the fact that it seems as though Accra is becoming less and less for Ghanaians. There’s been a huge change since 2018-2019. I think we just need to use that energy to shift the focus, because the ideas outlined by others in these comments sound good, and there’s definitely potential there, so how can we move further in that direction to do better? I mean a lot of the issues come from the lack of support from the government, because if people were actually getting jobs and getting paid for them, the price increases wouldn’t be hitting as hard. But even as a foreigner, just stepping out of the house and spending 100 cedis before any enjoyment has been had… oh chale e dey pain me waaa. One thing I’ve noticed with other foreigners is that some of them come to mingle in foreign-owned spaces with other foreigners, and buy foreign-priced real estate, so Accra is starting to cater to them… but what about Ghanaians?!? They’ve inevitably had to move further and further out of the city as a result (which could be good for Ghana later but right now it’s hard). I think the lack of adaptability and understanding of some foreigners is also contributing to it, because we all know you have to be READY for Ghana. You have to have enough love for the country to get you through the way it will stress you, because it will! It is not America; the focuses are different, the racial tensions are different, the lifestyle, the system, and the pace of it all are different. Some examples: all of the big events this year were charging in dollars. Foreigners don’t know the lyrics to any of the Ghanaian artists’ songs and it’s so sad to see. I’ve seen Americans snap their fingers at waiters because their food isn’t ready in 15 min, I’ve seen people ignore others as if they’re not humans, make fun of accents or other African-related things. I think it would be nice to integrate more culture (and local businesses!) into it all, even if it’s in a modernized way that’s “more attractive” to the industry.

Excellent points! I don't want Ghana to be a revelers paradise. I want a healthy mix of investing and productivity with tourist activities. I get where you are coming from but when it comes to December in GH that celebration is *not* going stop at all cause a lot of ppl in ghana make a lot of money off of these foreigners when they visit ghana in December. Even the Ghanaian economy makes money off of these foreigners (Blk Americans, Blk Canadians, Carribeans, other Africans) who visit ghana in December time so since all of this money is being poured into Ghana every year around December time that is not going to stop at all because December time is when ghana see a lot of money being brought in into the country and I'm pretty sure the government and president is loving that so December time in Ghana is not stop. Since the Ghanaian Government is seeing all of these foreigners coming in and spending their money you really think that they are gonna stop foreigners from coming in around December time? That's not gonna happened.

I definitely do not want people to stop coming here in December or whenever. I have literally spent my time, energy and money on encouraging people to MOVE here.
