The title of this video caught me off guard. I thought it some kind of hit piece on Matt originally. Glad to see that's not the case. He seems like a genuinely good person trying to do good things. Definitely undeserving of some of the hate I've seen from time to time sprout up on KZfaq.

He did get in mild trouble (from an article I read) in trying to help customers bill the offroad tow as a claim with insurance. Otherwise, he seems as genuine and nice, and man did we grow up in the same time period, always throwing timely movie or show quotes in (as will Paul in his vids) as he works. @@TRKISH324t was a class 2 felony before he pled guilty and got a misdemeanor. Moral of the story is, don't tell your customers to get AAA coverage before filing a claim to get a cheaper bill, and don't tell AAA you recovered a truck and then show the video of the exact date of said recovery proving you only recovered a razor. All in all I think the people who were actually mad about Matt trying to help the customer even if it was illegal can go cry, I don't know anyone who would feel sympathy for AAA in any of these situations.

I really took that last part of the segment to heart, it struck home. Way back before there was any of this recovery equipment, my friends and I spent lots of time in the desert & mountains with our pickup trucks. Camping, exploring, and we helped a lot of people out (mostly Jeeps). We always had chains, ropes, shovels, hi-lift jacks and some 2"x6" lumber, we'd help people dig out, get pulled out, etc. People were nice & grateful BUT now you help get someone out and next day they want to sue you because you scratched their paint! It's become pretty ugly so I understand what you say about litigation and negative comments.
@PrinceCbass

I don't know if you have seen the episodes where Matt damages something during the recovery but he always says he will get it repaired for them or at least offers to repair it. Sometimes they say to forget about it because he helped them. He is always wiling to repair what he damages. He holds himself responsible even when the recovery is extremely difficult and is almost guaranteed to damage something.

I've watched Matt's channel from the beginning years ago, watched many different crew / characters pass thought while new members join the show along the way. It's very clear to me what keeps me watching along with others who make this channel popular. It's Matt himself. Other off road channels are missing that key element, a self-effacing fun loving free wheeling common man. Matt is the spark that keeps me watching ever episode his very talented support crew produce for him.

Hi; Cummins 12 valve diesels have a lot of low rpm grunt for rock climbing, and steady power through the rpm range without breaking. Merlon beat the he'll out of his truck at the games, especially when pulling the fleet of vehicles on the beach without launching a piston, or spinning a bearing. Your large monstrosity would do well with a slightly hopped up Cummins. The great thing about them is you may go stock or put 1000 hp into them, and still maintain reliability, and longevity. Happy recoveries Michael Rzewuski
@Ganiscol
@Ganiscol 4 ай бұрын
Matt and Rory addressed this numerous times, diesel dont have the throttle response and modulation for crawling with a customer vehicle in tow. What Merlin did with his truck was a nice show, but useless for recovery business - you cant have your customers vehicle dangling at the end of a rope like a tin can as you just floor it through obstacles. The wrecker games wasnt a realistic competition, it was all just a show, most evidently by the fact that it was encouraged to bribe the judges. 😅 I imagine there are ways to mitigate the issues, but why bother when it works just fine with an 8.4L big block and the gearing to run it in its optimal power band without the wheels spinning?

I had a chance to spend some time with Matt and his family on a mandated trucking lay-over. I parked my big rig on the street outside his compound and got to meet everyone except Rudy and Rhett. The brilliance of this family is they are absolutely genuine. They are the same people in person as they are on the videos. Matt appreciates his audience and takes the time to engage with them in conversation. Jaymie is the same ray of sunshine in person and I got to see her working shoulder-to-shoulder with Matt in her lovely dress and sandals to load up a trailer. His kids are so confident and competent it just brings a tear to your eye, especially in a generation of so many NPC children. But I pray his public, his fanbase and the World in general treats them well. It would be a shame to let the few grifters, malcontents and frivolous litigators to spoil something very unique and precious on KZfaq.

The biggest problem with diesel seems to be lag. First there's not enough oomph to get you out, then it spools up and you end up burying it deeper when the wheels spin. Control/limit the lag. Big engine/small turbo? Maybe variable geometry? The torque of diesel, along with the weight over the front to hold it down, should be an advantage, just so long as it can be controlled better.

Thanks for this comment man! Everything you said is perfectly said. I'm glad you enjoyed the editing and the clips I included. It is a ton of work to get all those gathered up. Sorry for the semi-click bait title and thumbnail, but the thumbnail depicts his response to that question 🤣. Anyways, I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I hope you enjoy my videos as well 👍

I hope Matt will give advice in a book for trails to ride for off road bikes that are rated for riders, even if he has to have help! Yes I know trails change but most of the trails look good for quads and trail bikes except some of the slick rocks maybe! I’ve been watching the videos and love them! His family, friends, and gang are a great group to watch! He has taught me a lot!

He did note that he has had to face lawsuits, claims likely due to damage done to vehicle during a recovery, maybe over whe he billed at, hassles with insurance companies, possibly on workers' compensation. It is all a part of any business.

I believe his big lawsuit that he settled on was using insurance claims improperly. When I worked for a towing coming they did the same thing trying to help the customer get stuff covered, but where Matt screwed up was including the vehicles in question in videos.

I knew he would say getting sued is the downside of fame. When enough people see that you have something, they want to take it. It's the same everywhere. You just need to budget it in.

One of the main reasons I love Matt's Off Road is because he likes being involved, with people! I've noticed with most other car channels once they get like 1-200K subs and starting to get popular their audience starts to get isolated from them. They literally start telling people "Don't come around here," or "Go to the show..." and Matt doesn't do that. The few channels I subscribe to don't have this mentality. You can talk to them, you can interact with them. People that can maintain that no matter how popular they get are good people.

What I want to see is whatever Matt wants to show us. If he builds something, he has to have a passion to do it. We can try to give him ideas, but if it doesn't spark in him, he will not follow through. Thanks, Matt.

Twin turbo Cummins diesel. Small turbo for the low end grunt and a large one for big power. Why doesn’t Matt ever use a winch anchor? I think it would have helped with the red Jeep recovery.

I'm not a professional at anything. But, I've done a little of almost everything from running heavy equipment to driving over the road trucks. My opinion, if you want low end torque, you need a diesel but they are heavy. If weight is a problem, then i would go for a inline 6 like a 300 ford or the 4.0 amc or the 292 chevy.
