We are installing the deck footings and framing the deck structure in this video. For the deck footings we are using GoliathTech helical piles, and we will show you some tips for getting a solid deck frame.

Here in Ontario, we use Helicals for alot of our decks and projects where no foundations are accessable. The posts here have a plastic green sleeve around the post though for frost protection. Thought they might have done it there too. Nice work though 🤙

That’s another brand but the helix is what is anchoring the structure and that is installed well below the frost line so there is really no risk of heave

Thanks for the content. On those broken lag bolts... Vise grips work better but if there are a lot of them, consider using a stud extractor socket. The ones with roller locks, not the ones with sharp twist edges. I use Matco and Assenmacher stud remover sockets on broken exhaust manifold bolts. They work great from a ratchet or drill with a socket adapter.

love it! could you have gotten away with a double 2x beam but went above and beyond with the triple main beam? i ask because it’s almost the same size deck as im about to build and i was going to use a double 2x10 beam! now i’m worried!

I think you will probably be fine but it would potentially mean you would need to space your footings closer together…you can find tables for these spans online..just search deck beam span tables

Hello. Is it possible to attach too many hanger joist to a ledger to the point where the ledgers integrity is jeopardized? So for example right now my ledger board has 15 joist attached, 16"oc, but what if i wanted to double the quantity of joist would that be too many nails in the ledger? There will not be any extra load on the deck. I am adding more to close spacing for composite decking.

I've often wondered when you are doing multiple cuts of the same length why don't you use a chop saw with a stop block i never go on site if im using wood without it😊

They're not there to fix the house. The homeowner will have to take care of that themselves.

The sheathing was showing some rot in one location but wasn’t that bad and the r board was completely solid. Once we flash it there will be no water penetration so it will stop any rot from continuing
