Laura, I truly have no words. from helping families/children to birds to just being so real with us. I love watching you for you. I am not a gardener, I just love watching you, Aaron and your family. I started watching you when you made your fall wheat wreath several years ago and can't stop. Thank you for being clean and wholesome it makes me want to be your friend. Have a wonderful weekend!❤

It is so nice of you Aaron to donate your time to the Children’s Relief Nursery to provide a pleasant and cheerful environment for the families. It was thoughtful to remember the staff with the Amaryllis to enjoy through the season. As to the woodpecker and the Ashe tree, could he be after an Ashe borer?

I needed this video today more than any other day. I watch this as I can’t sleep. Friday night my area had a historic tornado that flew through four states in fours hours. It took my home town to its knees. I live in the next little town over and praise God that I just have a fixable hole in my roof. My mother’s street was one of the very few that survived in that little dog on the map. I can not be any more thankful right here at Christmas time. I did not wish to watch this and erase the reality of our lives now, but I just needed a pause to think about something other than destruction and loss. The memories of growing up are all I have of that little town because it no longer stands. I don’t know where I was going with this comment, but I want to tell you to hug your loved ones extra these next coming weeks. Thank you for being here to be my tiny piece of normal. Please stay safe. God bless you always.

How sweet that you continue to do things for the Children's Relief Nursery. What a wonderful cause. It is recommended that you disinfect your bird feeders before putting them out after they have set during the summer months. It's also good to periodically clean them if you leave them up all year round. 🐦🐦🐦

I would love to feed the birds, but I have 5 cats and doing anything to attract birds really isn't a good idea as the cats will go after them. So, thank you to all the people that provide the birds with winter food. The tree turned out so beautifully - the kids will really enjoy that. It's good to see how you cut back your ornamental grasses and what happens if you don't divide. As always, it is great to see Russell.

Here in Chicago woodpeckers we’re eating all the ash borer beetles that were killing all the ash trees. In the past 5-10 years there has been a massive removal of dead ash trees. It was pretty saddening. But, beautiful replacements are growing up in their place 😍

Laura, as soon as you described the shape of the concrete under the circular bed in the brick patio I immediately thought “splash pad” for the kids on your hot summer days... you could install dancing water spouts and even some lights. How fun would that be for Benjamin and Samantha, the birds might even like it!!! It would be a water feature for you and water play for the kids you would not have to worry about like a pool or a pond 😉... no one will probably see this since it’s so late in the day so I might bring it up again... my ideas are always great 🤣

American Robins rarely come to feeders, unless the feed offers meal worms or fruit. The biggest attractor food is black oil sunflower seed -- you will get the largest variety of songbirds with black oil sunflower seeds.

The true spirit of Christmas: Giving to others well done Laura and GA. You inspire us in our gardens and remind us to also grow our community with love and giving. Another happy Christmas moment. Now for bird feeders, I'm jealous of your 'squirrel free' garden. I feed our birds this time of the year, but how many comical jerry-rigged feeders we've made to try and keep the squirrels at bay; it's somewhere between hilarity and rage, the squirrel adventures round here. Thank you again for all you do GA!

The tree for the Children's Relief Center is beautiful and fun. We love birds here at our home also. Not only are the birds a lovely site to sit and watch, but so are the squirrels. The Children's Relief Center should be a prototype for every county around the U.S., maybe we wouldn't have adults with issues in the future. I'd love to see the look on those little faces when they see everything. Yrs ago Monty Don showed how he converts his outdoor potting table into a huge bird feeder, using dip trays and branches for cover. I did that...before I had way too many cats for one girl 😏 that was the most fun. I had birds I'd never seen before stopping by, it was really wonderful. And I think the new steps to the porch will be one of those moments you think.."why didn't we do this long ago".?!

Perfect container! Can’t leak and mice can’t get in! My favorite birds are my woodpeckers! Once yours gets used to you feeding them he won’t bother your tree. Actually he was probably just cracking a black sunflower seed open in the tree. That’s what mine do they they go to their home on our hill and peck away!

Good Morning Garden Answer Friends! Love the support at the Community center, the tree turned out beautifully. I love my birds and watching come to my feeders brings me joy and peace as well. We had bears on our neighborhood and DNR suggested taking down the feeders. I never seen a bear, although neighbor had a baby bear only a handful of houses down from ours. Mine stayed up. Let's talk woodpeckers..uggh..We have epilated, dinosaur size, I realize they have to eat. However, they do their darndest to hang on to my feeder to eat, while spilling out in groves, seed all over the ground...attracting squirrels and chipmunks. I have hung up an identical suet feeders in different areas to hope to attract them to those, but they go the birdfeeders instead..🙄🤨. They visit my cedar sided home on occasion & no mistaken their ratatat from their pecking anywhere in the house puts me in quick action to hit on the wall scaring them away. Have a great weekend all!

Here in southern Maine the birds are eating us out of house and home. Lol Its that time of year. If you have Woodpeckers they will find the suet. We are getting ready to switch to sunflower kernels so the shells don't get spilled all over. I love those copper feeders you have. We miss our Robins. In our area they go south for the winter. But the Cardinals remain which is a joy. Same with Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees (our state bird), Junkos, Mourning Doves and Blue Jays. To name a few. :) I am retired and love watching the birds. Keep us posted on the bird activity.

WHAT a FABULOUS tip!!! Terrible trouble with squirrels around in my townhome development. I have done this in my flower bed and pots but didn’t know it could be used in bird feeders!!!! I love birds, but in my community we stopped feeding them because the squirrels they attracted were getting into the buildings and nesting in the attics near the feeders! Cute but terrible varmints-too smart!! 😧

I try to use the HOT bird food & suet which helps. I haven’t tried to put cayenne on the regular food but great idea.

Be aware and careful not to breath in the pepper if you add it yourself. Once inhaled as I was adding pepper and could hardly breath for a while. I will never use pepper again.

@@lisamcodysmith61 you just add it in the feeder or you could premix it.

Love the idea of fairy godparents! Our local community food bank/assistance group, Active Faith, would really benefit from a program like this. We feed the birds also. I could use one of those covers for my tube feeder- it does get moisture inside and clumps the seeds. You are such a great example to the community 😊

I really like that red ornament with the white swirls on it and then you showed the tree skirt and they go together how much fun is that!

Good morning! Isn't it so satisfying to watch the birds at the feeders! I keep them all year long behind my back patio where we can see when we're in the kitchen. and great room. Makes a heart happy. :o) And where did you get that amazing scoop / funnel thingy?? So smart!

Years ago I had similar bird feeders with the wire cage around the tube and had a bird stuck inside the cage area, it took me about 15 minutes to untangle the bird. She flew off to the nearest tree and sat for awhile thanking me I'm sure. Made me feel good I saved her but I threw that feeder away immediately.

Ohhh thank you! thank you! thank you! I have been getting VERY strong prompting for something like this! (I’m not ready to be a Foster Parent again and I prefer to not remove children if at all possible) This is an absolutely amazing program! This would really be more my pace! Thank you!

Beautiful tree for the Children's Relief Center. We did some flower bed cleanup today as well. We cut back our perennial mums and pulled out our gladiolus:)

Put your suet feeder where you see woodpeckers! They love the suet and it may keep them from drilling your tree! Thanks for starting out my Saturday so happily! Love you and all you do for us, your community, and the world (no understatement!).
