that's awesome!! glad you liked the thumbnail; I was a kid in the 1990's so I always love using that stuff since it's considered "vintage" now haha. And thank you for the kind words! As far as the deep lying forward goes, try starting with a 4-4-2 and set your other striker to an advanced forward. The deep lying forward pairs well this role. If you still struggle, you can write out the tactic you're using and I'll try to help out!

@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker , I found a rather old comment on SI forum, related to FM22. What are yr thoughts? "In summary, the deep lying forward is better if you want the pass to be made towards a deep attacking run from the midfield because the act of holding up the ball buys time for these deep attacking runs to happen. The false 9 is better if you are expecting to pass the ball to inside forwards or wide forwards making diagonal runs towards the goal since you are facing the play and will be in a better position to play these passes." That "holding the ball" issue sounds legit on paper. But I haven't used DLF much for ages. And don't you find that F9 is a better scoring threat as a solo striker?
@lyonkennedy4892

Enjoyed your analysis and explanations. Now I need a detailed video explaining the differences between the dlf and the false 9 and which one is more effective as well as other various seemingly similar roles in various positions.

Great idea!! Once I start getting some catalog of roles, I'll start doing comparisons bewteen roles (inverted winger vs inside forward, etc...) When writing, I struggle with what to include/not include, since I want the videos to have a good balance of information while also being succinct.

a SS is an amazing role so it'd definitely work if you've got the right player for it. You could also do an asymmetrical formation with a SS/DLF so they wouldn't get in the way

This channel has 5 stars potential. Love it. Btw, how can I keep my players stay in the pockets for midfielders (cm, cam)?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Ай бұрын
Thanks for the compliment I appreciate it! For staying in the pocket, try to take advantage of the new positional play in FM24. So check the roles that are in direct contact with your CM/CAM (like the striker for example.) For example, if you've got a CAM, is your striker pressing the defensive back line? Something like an advanced forward should create space to where an attacking midfielder (on support) can sit in the hole. I also find the box to box is great role to sit in the pockets of space. Hope that helps!

Hi, great video, really like the calm and informativ style. I also like the DLF but i often struggle to find a good one. Are u using target forward as a DLF instead? From the stats they are the most similiar but most of them lack vision, passing and flair in my experience.
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Ай бұрын
Yea the DLF and target forward are pretty similar and do a lot of the same things. I use a DLF if my side is maybe a little more strong; so I'm not like fighting against relegation or something. If I am struggling, I use a target man to try and get some cheap goals from corners haha. With a target man, the team seems to hoof it up to him and go "well the target man is probably down there somewhere"

@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Hi, its me again^^ If u gonna go for the more...exotic roles i have 2 suggestions for u. Thats why im replying to an older post not to spoil anything. 1. Wide Target Forward: Basicly like a regular target forward but instead of battering his head against a 6,2 200p defender his opponents are often only smaller wingbacks whichs makes him much more effectiv in holding the ball and giving it to a creative midfielder like mezzalas, forward playmakers etc. Since u barely will find any target forwards that have good flanking u mostly play them as an inverted target forward so that he can cut inside. depending on the role of the wingback on his side u can either tell him to occupy the halfspaces and provide width, thats usally when im playing an inverted wb, or to cut more inside so that the wingback can overlap him. the only difference between support and attack is that in attack he positions himself more offensive but if u play him on support u can give him the instruction to stay more offensive so there is absolutely no difference :D Since he is a supportive role u will barely find games where he is the absolute gamechanger but in 2 different seasons with 2 different players they end up in the top 3 goalscores of my team. Somehow, out of nowhere he is there. its like black magic. The wide target forget forward becomes straight out disgusting if u have a good winger on the other side who can cross on the far post while ur center forward distracting the centerbacks and ur 16 jumping, 16 strength, 6.2f with 14 heading is going into a 1v1 vs a tiny wingback in an aireal duel xD His physicality makes him also quite good in defense to mark the opposite WB and pressuring him. 2. The defensive Winger: That role is quite gamebreaking in the right tactic. He is like "i want a winger but i dont want a winger" type. I would compare him to a Box to Box Midfielder but on the flank so in defense he wont come as back as far as a regular FB/WB and in offense hes not gonna force dribblings to reach the byline. Its pretty much from box to box. So what is he actually good at. Well first hes gonna shut down 90% of the opponents wingplay on his own. Second, he is providing width and will make the deep runs to cross the ball if he has room in front of him. 3rd, in posession hes gonna be a bit more like a complete wingback so he wont only stay on the flanks but also sometimes tug inside to support ur midfield. So in summery the defensive winger is pretty much like a complete wingback on attack. So the he fits best into tactics in which u are not playing a wingback but still want the benefits of one. Like for example in tactics with inverted wingbacks or fullbacks. Sorry for that long reply but maybe it saves u a bit of work^^ Im currently running a tactic in which i tried to fit in as many exotic roles as possible with defensive wingers, wide target forwards, inverted wing and fullbacks, libero etc :D and on top of it making it asymetrical xD so far its going quite well. won the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga with Schalke04 (not that hard, i know) and securing rank 6 in the first Bundesliga season while winning the Cup Final against Bayer Leverkusen in the last Minute of overtime.

It is a great role for a high press and possession tactic against a defensive low block because a CB will follow your DLF out of the box The prime examples of DLF in world football are Benzema and Harry Kane

Glad you enjoyed it!! F9 is more of a playmaker/passer... think Messi in the Barca days. Harry Kane is a great example of a DLF; someone who wants to be involved in the build up but functions more like a traditional striker. Both work great with an IF

I'll double check but I *think* it was because my SV was right footed and I wanted to keep him on the same side. But I think that the real answer is I find the tactic for aesthetically pleasing to look at in the tactic screen with a SV on the right haha XD
