I remember a tweet about someone complaining that coyotes kept eating their cats, and everytime that happened they went back to the shelter and get a new cat, over and over again, and one reply said "I think you're just feeding cats to the coyotes at this point". This movie reminded me of that.

I get Euphoria is an adult show and the actors are adults pretending to be teenagers ( Ironically the actor who played 17 year old Nathan in Euphoria plays a guy in his 30´s in this movie) But Why can´t he write sex scenes in an ADULT FILM STARRING ADULTS PLAYING ADULTS? The only interest I had in this film is morbid curiosity. Simply because it's about a couple in a dysfunctional relationship played by a real-life couple that were, by all accounts, also in a dysfunctional relationship (and I'm speaking as someone who normally DGAF about celebrity gossip). Was it as bad as Gigli? God no lol. But it was ultimately really boring and kinda lame. Also had no idea that the book was written by the same lady that wrote Talented Mr Ripley. Such a better adaptation lol

As I watched Affleck act, I kept thinking about "Gone Girl" and how this could have been an amazing sequel to it. Amy Dunne decided to enjoy her sexuality and mess with Nick's masculinity. Nick growing to be more and more psychotic. Struggling with his newfound urge to kill and his growing attraction to the woman who tried to kill him and now tortures him in front of his neighbors. Weirdly enough, their marriage has never been better🤣

Nick wouldn't give a shit if Amy cheated on him. He'd be glad that she was putting her focus on someone else and pity the poor bastard. All Nick wants from Amy by the end is for her to let go of the chokehold she has on his life. Her taking an interest in someone else was would be a relief. She doesn't need to cheat on him to fuck with his masculinity, she's already done that by taking complete control of him and holding it over his head that she can ruin him any time she chooses to.

Honestly, when I first heard about this movie, I thought it was gonna be a thing where like it was a creepy sex thing they did. Like, things get boring in their relationship, so Melinda picks a young and naive man to sleep with. Vik kills the man in his jealousy. She finds it hot. They cover it up together and go back to a "normal" relationship before things get boring again and they rinse and repeat. Somehow I feel that would've worked better than what we were given, considering how the movie drives away from the original ending.

When I watched this movie, I thought they were going for a clever screen trick in that the only time we really see Melinda being flirty or intimate with other guys, it was being framed through Affleck's character. Over-the-shoulder camera shots during the pool scene; Affleck dreaming that she was screwing the piano player in the car; Affleck seeing them go into rooms from the upstairs floor. So, it gave the impression that Affleck was misreading her being close with male friends, but the viewer isn't seeing the reality because of how the visual medium is framing the story. Obviously, after reading a synopsis on the book, I concluded that my interpretation was incorrect, but I still think that would have been an interesting take.

He then murders her lovers to show dominance and she likes it, I think it would be cool if then they started to work together to murder or if they played more with the “erotic thriller” concept rather than “man kills dudes his wife sleeps with” which has kinda been done before.

Or have it heavily imply she's deliberately picking up these men just so her husband can kill them out of jealousy, because she gets off on the thought of having someone kill for her, and he does it because it keeps her around and interested. I think making her aware and wilfully complicit would've been an interesting angle to go down, because you think you're watching one fucked up murderous person and one fucked up but not murderous person, until the end when you realise they're both fucked up and murderous.

they did just invite everyone to dinner all the time in the 50s. i guess its because rationing had been so strict for so long that entertaining was being pushed as the ultimate social activity and show of status. in fact i think you were seen as odd if you didnt hold dinners in your home.
@pseudonymous9153
@pseudonymous9153 2 жыл бұрын
Also because the rise of consumer culture flooded the market with gadgets and products to replicate public establishments like bars and restaurants in your home for the first time. It was also the first time that most people had homes big enough to host parties. And with homes and appliances being used as status objects you want to be able to show off. And so being a good host (or hostess, mostly, since the woman did all the work and had the most to lose socially if she failed) became pushed by the commercial culture of the time. The 20th century was the birth of domestic entertaining as we know it today. The concept of a house party or cocktail party (where guests are freely milling about in clusters) didnt even exist prior to the 20s; that would be too scandalous to let women talk to whatever mixed company they wanted. Previously it was more just the wealthy hosting formal organized dinners (obviously all done by the servants) and everyone else just went to the pub to socialise and then returned to their own homes to sleep. Drinking wasn't something really associated with doing in the domestic sphere at all. I guess home entertaining culture would seem weird to our generation, (even pre COVID) probably due to a combination of facts like 1- we're back to living in tiny rentals, so no nice home to show off and we'll probably move in a year anyway so who cares about the neighbours 2- no one can afford to be a homemaker or devote any of the time, energy and money necessary for entertaining 3- social life happens online. If you have something to brag about, you post it; you don't need to invite someone to your home 4- no one cares about your gadgets or new recipe because we've already seen cooler stuff online 5- we have better things to do in our free time

I think they hired Levinson to make the movie "Erotic" but overall, it still failed mate. Plus the fact that Ben didn't want Ana to have a lot of nude scenes in this film CLEARLY didn't help since ironically, having LOTS of nude scenes is vital to Sam Levinson in writing a good story. 🤨

Before and in the beginning of watching this movie I thought the plot twist would be that Melinda was actually the killer and Vik was covering up for her. And the only reasons she didn't kill him are that he's rich, they have a child together(which means she would be stuck with taking care of her if she killed Vik), and/or she actually felt some genuine affection for him.

Well marriage itself is a transactional relationship (in a theoric way) in practice of course not, according to relationships and affection between partners. Culturally the narrative arround marriage and "love" revolves arround possesion and propierty, nothing further from love, (again, the use and the reality of every marriage and relationship is different).
