Why do people's hate on Deepak? Is it because hes presenting ideas that are different than the materialistic zombie living way? I think what hes saying makes sense on a Philosophical level or quantum mechanics level. Alot of consiousness has been talked about when it comes to quantum mechanics by very high calibre scientists. This is definitely a topic that should be understood and looked in. It holds solid evidence theoretically and experimentally. Peoples on KZfaq just like making a mockery of someone who's learned through out his life more than them but they think that they know more. The internet is a wild place where dumb people get to speak loud and clear.

For something different, let us apply a computer metaphor to the One idea. Everything is an abstraction on top of another abstraction. Or layered abstraction levels. The one consciousness has abstractions to create separate consciousness or souls. Incarnation is another abstraction over the soul to get a spirit. The material world is another abstraction of data streams in/out of spirit mind. Deepak is right. You don't go anywhere. You are there right now, next to that granola bar data. Getting closer to truth is stranger than fiction. :-)

The consciousness , is indestructible and eternal. It neither slays, nor can it be slain. It is never, born and it never dies. After coming into existence, it never ceases to be. It is always, permanent and very ancient. It does not suffer, nor can it be tainted. At the time of death it does not die, but leaves the body and enters a new one . Weapons cannot pierce it, fire cannot burn it, water cannot moisten it and wind cannot dry it. It is impenetrable, incombustible, all pervading, stable and immobile. It is invisible, imperceptible and immutable. The Bhagavadgita📖 knows the limitations of human mind to gauge the true nature of the consciousness . Hence, it concurs with the popular notion that no one can exactly know what a consciousness is. One looks at it with great surprise, another speaks about it with great surprise, another hears about it with incredulity and yet another after hearing about it knows it not. The consciousness is superior to everything else in the human being. The senses are great, greater than the senses is the mind, greater than the mind is buddhi and greater than the buddhi is the Self . This is similar to the description of the tattvas (realities) in contrast to the consiousness in the Samkhya. The soul is the highest, eternal reality (tattva), whereas the senses, the mind, intelligence, etc., are finite and dependent realities.

Why would eternal consciousness have to be singular?
@uremove
@uremove 6 жыл бұрын
DC seemed unnecessarily argumentative! However, I agree with what he’s saying, that we are not individual “souls” but rather that consciousness is a universal, and the fundamental reality of our existence. He should have said outright that Heaven, Hell, Reincarnation etc. which depend on an eternally individual soul are all mistaken. Crick said as much in his book “The Astonishing Hypothesis”. So, if consciousness is a universal, when we die, this “me” dissolves back into the melting pot, from which new instantiated forms of “me” (and you, and every sentient being) are continually being formed. As he says, in Vedantic belief there is only one consciousness. That’s what people call God, (or Brahman) and it’s what each of us are fundamentally (Atman = Brahman). Dunno why people are so hostile to him....
@mycount64
@mycount64 6 жыл бұрын
I have to assume that my conscious experience is the same as everyone else. I hate to disappoint ... it is not shared. There is no evidence to the hypothesis that consciousness exists outside of brains... none. It is only wishful thinking and imagination. No one has been able to show the communication mechanism of an external consciousness to the brain. Whack your head and you loose consciousness... hard enough and its permanent lights out or damage. Brain damager results in memory loss, personality changes, intelligence loss etc. Its in the brain stupid. Consciousness is a function of biology and evolutionary. It is the only hypothesis that has evidence. Depok is either delusional, a con or a fool... take your pick and remember that when you follow his bs.
@uremove
@uremove 6 жыл бұрын
AW Crowe Yes, it’s in the brain -but enquire a bit deeper. How is it possible to produce conscious experiences eg. the smell of strawberries, or the sensation of pain by the movement of Na+ ions across axon membranes, or binding of transmitter molecules at synapses in the brain? There is no mechanism for translating physical properties or processes into mental experiences, and the more we know, the less possible it seems. Hence, David Chalmers has called it the “Hard Problem” of the ‘Mind-Body Problem’. The most parsimonious solution is that ‘experience’ is a basic property of all matter, from which our complex consciousness is magnified & made coherent by the brain. This hypothesis is called Panexperientialism. If that is correct, it means ‘consciousness’ is a universal - the “me” that is writing this is not fundamentally different from the “me” (you) that is reading it or the “me” that is Deepak Chopra. We have different bodies, histories, memories etc. and therefore different identities, but our consciousness is the universe’s. That’s what he’s saying.

Consciousness does have a plural and that is the group of 'individualized separate awareness's' that are still tied to and interconnected with the whole of consciousness aka the conscious network. I was given the opportunity to visit the birth of this soul and I can say unequivocally that we are indeed granted an individualized consciousness that has an inherent interconnectedness with all other conscious entities. Consciousness is relative. It like the individual nerves and how they relate to the nervous system where all nerves are sensing what they do individually yet all other nerves within the nervous system are informed of the sensation and input although the others may show little or no reaction to the one nerves awareness of that particular sensation.
@besinb09
@besinb09 2 жыл бұрын
Totally. Deepak even said in the interview that its not this or that, its both. He contradicts himself by saying that consciousness is only singular and cannot be plural. It can be both. There can be oneness and there can also be many experiencing this oneness and interconnectivity. If consciousness is truly singular then who is running the show lol. Who gets to be the one!? Neo!? There are clearly many conscious beings that are sovereign. If you believe that there is only one consciousness behind everything then there cannot be free will. Free will occurs at the level of the individual. If there is one being behind everything then that being basically farted and it is watching the aftermath play out as it will and none of the fart particles (us) have any say in anything lol
@Shane7492
@Shane7492 Жыл бұрын
There's a difference between pure awareness and experiences that you are aware of. We all have individualized experiences, but there's no way that the pure awareness can be different. That is an important distinction. For example, let's say you and I are looking at an apple. I see a certain color and shape, and you experience a color and shape that might be slightly different for various reasons. The experiences of the color and shape are individualized, but the awareness that perceives is the same. The latter is what Deepak is referring to.

And no I'm not a fan of this guy or in fact any particular person in general. After listening to what he says and as a physicist (shifted to philosophy of science couple of years ago) I know for a fact that many many quantum physicists, many founders of our current scientific paradigm and even the philosophers many of you would praise taken as granted! said very similar things! I guess ignorance is bliss for most people on this planet. These days wannabe intellectuals who simply took for granted the handed on the plate scientific definitions without even knowing those definitions, are not simply looking to find the truth (whatever it may be or not), they simply want the truth to be what they like it to be! And that is freaking dangerous, stupid and narrowminded. Welcome to the church of wannabe intellectuals! Way to go indeed!

I tend to enjoy Deepak's ideas when he starts, but every time be becomes progressively more disappointing the longer he speaks. Robert made the valid point that he can't imagine being himself before he was born (ie. oblivion) and Deepak glibly says, "I can imagine it" and talks about vicariously experiencing Robert before he was born (when he can't vicariously experience Robert now, let alone before he was born, as per Nagle). When Robert questioned him about that, Deepak was glib again, claiming that Robert's current consciousness is experienced vicariously. Then he takes the angle that memories are vicarious consciousness because they are not found at the cellular level in the brain. That is not really true, because the states and activities of neurons are shaped to some extent by experience as surely as ruts in the ground are formed by running water. It is true that oblivion does not happen while life remains. Minds on Earth switch on and off (are born and die) but there are always minds (at this stage). But a personal oblivion ... the loss of the entity that you know as yourself ... that seems to happen every time we sleep or are rendered unconscious anyway. It's hard to imagine that being dead will leave one more conscious than when asleep or under anaesthesia. Perhaps the secret to the afterlife lies in time dilation during people's death dreams in the last few minutes of brain oxygen? If the dilation is great enough as the brain shuts down, a subjective afterlife up to brain death could feel like a very long time.
