There are a ton of deer calling tutorials out there, but none like this one! We use actual hunts to show you how to call to deer. Bow hunters see deer crossing at a distance all the time, but will never come into range. It is in those situations you can use a grunt call to bring them right to your tree! We walk you through a few different encounters with deer that all required slightly different calling tactics to get the deer to come into range. We show you hunts where calling worked, and hunts where it didn't work, and explain why. This is the best and most relatable deer calling video on KZfaq.

Nice to see grunting in action. I use grunts a lot and screw up sometimes. But they do work well. In hot spots I have gotten more Bucks than I’d thought. Often 3 at a time which ruins any chance to draw and shoot from a tree stand.

I appreciate your self control. I know too many yahoos that would be flinging arrows at these monsters despite the distance, foliage, or quartering-to scenarios. So many times they're losing deer and complaining about it. The way I look at it, taking careful shots should almost never result in lost deer.

What!. Hit them and find them later. Most people lose their deer before the track even starts. They get out of there stand too loud in the deer wasn't far away and runs off like a bat out of hell. Track too early on bad shots. most important, get out of the stand as quiet as you can and back the hell out, unless you hear it crash. if you give them at least four hours you will always find them dead in their bed. Even marginal shots guts, intestines, liver, up his butt. Lol. You will find the deer if you don't get on tracking early.

Works well in heavy cover. Rattling does too. If the deer can’ see for a long distance it doesn’t seem to work as well for me. I rattle blind and in certain areas I’ll grunt blind also. Impressive how calling to deer in sight worked for you. I may adjust my grunt style a bit...

Thanks for the comment! We agree with your assessment of calling in cover. The advantage of being able to call to deer in sight is you can read their body language and adjust your calling as needed. Very helpful!! Like he said below, it was nice to get it into context.. I feel like when I call it doesn't work at all, calling blind as I see nothing but it is pretty heavy cover area on state land so they are probably around and see me before I see them... even with several minutes between a simple little grunt... so I have basically stopped trying to call and still see nothing.. not sure what to do
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 5 жыл бұрын
If you are on state land that gets a decent amount of pressure you are better off not calling, especially blind calling. Now, you call to a deer you see if he isn’t going to come to you otherwise, you have nothing to lose. Many times deer circle downwind of where the call is coming from, so if you do blind call you have to set up in an area where it will be difficult for them to swing downwind.

Weekend Woodsmen I have a small area behind our house I hinge cut for cover,feathered around a couple food plots and made hinge cuts to neighbors property to make a straight shot run there impossible.. see tons of deer and have a 10pt on cam but... 35yds from problem neighbor... I can call when I see them on neighbors and they come my way.. what you say makes sense.. thanks... finding my way in to areas of S/L that are so far out and steep Finger ridges so most humans will never step foot up there.. I see possibilities there.. I can back up to the ravine so they can't j hook to check my sent... then a occasional blind call.. for gun season I can get in more open area with some range with the savage to be able to see them to call them in..

sometimes the butt out works great and other times it doesn't do the best job or we dont' have it with us etc,. the gloves help for easier/quicker clean up especially when we aren't close to home. Sometimes one guy in our group also gets really irritated skin after directly handling a deer so we believe there is a bit of an allergy there!

I typically only grunt to deer I can see and I want to shoot, so that puts them in the 3.5 year old range. Age and dominance probably has something to do with responsiveness. Just remember, if you weren’t going to get a shot at it anyhow, you have nothing to lose.
@andybrooks8311
@andybrooks8311 5 жыл бұрын
Weekend Woodsmen very true. We don't see 3.5 year olds so that rules that out haha. I take what I can get. To pass up a buck or wait for a deer like those... it would be years before you would get a buck.

@WeekendWoodsmen 5 жыл бұрын
It’s still worth trying, but I would definitely start with contact grunts and work your way up if needed. Even if you hit them with multiple contact grunts it might peak their curiosity. Also try slightly higher pitched grunts, but not so high pitched it is a doe bleat

@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 4 жыл бұрын
we doe blind call. mixed results. we actually had a nice 2 year old come into grunt calls last week. we try every 30-45 minutes. so many deer could be traveling through the area that you never know when they'll be within earshot. also - the ones that are around could react after the 3rd or 4th time and it took them that long to get aggravated, energized for a fight or chase, etc.

@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. That’s is a risk of calling to deer. If you don’t get a shot at them before they get down wind of you, you are likely going to get winded. You also have to remember we have 2 people in the tree. It is very difficult to conceal 2 people’s scent enough to get away with a deer going down wind of you. Was have gotten away with it a number of times, but it also increases your chances of getting winded x2. Thanks and good luck!
@stickjr.3715

@@WeekendWoodsmen couldn't agree more about the 2 people and covering scent and didn't consider that. . Have you tried ozonics. I haven't been busted in years using that. And I ozone my clothes with a log6 ozone machine. Another great tool is milkweed. 😁. Throw that cotton stuff and you will know exactly where The thermals are carrying your scent and see where the wind is taken it aswell.

It all depends. At the end of the day, if a deer isn’t coming, what do you have to lose? I agree you have a much better chance of fooling them when they don’t have a clear line of sight into where the call is coming from. All I know is this has proven itself time and time again.
