How about those weird uppercuts from the Boetsch vs Okami UFC fight? Do they have a place in the clinch or was the situation too specific for them to be effective as a planned strategy?You can see them here from about 5:45 to 6:15 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJp3pbh9uau-do0.html

great example of armchair warrior comments at approx 3:50 -someone getting the guillotine is too preoccupied with choking and getting their neck torqued to grab a knife-basic survival instinct puts all focus on that danger. also, if they had a knife, they won’t wait until then to get it.

Exactly what I was thinking. If a guy is carrying a blade, surely he has it either for intimidation or defense. If it's defense, he's not the kind of guy who would trade punches first, unless it was a prearranged grudge match or something.

I generally prefer underhooks for control and leverage, and overhooks for defence from punches. I find that an underhook will usually give that little bit of extra elevation to their shoulder and tilts their posture so I don’t have to work as hard to control them. Great video again, Mike!

once when I was "Fighting/playing" with my friend (after training- in normal clothes)... I did a "quillotine" with one arm, and I tried to do something like you showed in this video... And when I held his head i just grabed my own hoodie (soo i could hold his head and try to work with second arm to do some technique), I do not know if this technique is good but maybe in selfdefense when you have normal clothes, it is a good option to grab your own shirt/hoodie/jacket just to keep holding somebody in this quillotine position? (when I was training Judo - I liked to use my own gi in the fight - I love sleeve chokes

I like the fact you do a setup for the guillotine. Common belive if you only do a side headlock while somebody taking you down will choke somebody out. That is not a guilotine. You have to stop the guy first to get the chanse to wrap your arms around his neck.
@boxingwithben1510
@boxingwithben1510 3 жыл бұрын
A great counter to the Guillotine from the standing position: Don't sink into it - keep your head raised and force your body weight upwards into the armpit. Using your rear leg, step off to the side of your opponent. When the foot of your rear leg touches the floor, either use your lead leg to sweep your opponent to the mat, or drive your body into your opponent (shooting for a side 'single/double') taking them to the mat. Your opponent might lose their grip, if they do then you have side mount with plenty of options available to you - a kimura submission, an armbar, GNP from side mount with hammer fists, elbows etc... or shifting position to take top mount for GNP, an Ezekiel choke, Von Flue choke, Arm Triangle choke etc... However, your opponent might maintain their grip when you reach the mat. If this is the case, they will be in an awkward position, as you'll be offset to their side in the Guillotine. You have two options here, attempt a Von Flue choke whilst in the Guillotine, not necessarily even looking for a finish but simply just to apply enough pressure to get them to release their grip, giving you side control, or as their arm will be in an awkward position due to the Guillotine being locked in whilst you are offset to their side, you can also immediately apply intense pressure to the arm, moving towards the head of your opponent as you attempt a Kimura counter with the arm that is awkwardly locked under your chin. It isn't perfect, it won't work every time, but what does in BJJ? BJJ is all about puzzle solving, learning, building, adapting. Just some food for thought.

So, stupid question about jabs, if you missed a jab because someone stepped back, would flicking them (not too hurt just mess with their guard) be at all effective? I don't think so but it's a random thought i had and i figured at least someone would get a laugh out of it.

1:58 Hi man! I like your videos you show a lot of stuff that I like to see. However to make this way more effective and less based off of strength you're going to want to use your right arm to underhook his left arm. (The ones being shown in the frame). I've been doing wrestling for about 4 years and Jiu Jitsu for 2. I'm not necessarily a professional bit I suggest you play around with my suggestion and come up with your own conclusion on it!

Good content. Question: is really wrestling human instinct, or becomes reflexive reaction given the fact that wrestling is taught here at early age/high school and thus "feels natural" ?

brio last I honestly believe wrestling is human instinct just watch really small children they naturally wrestle especially if you get two little boys out in the yard lol
@ezragatton5431
@ezragatton5431 3 жыл бұрын
I had the same question when I watched this video so I researched it a lot. Wrestling is the innate, natural form of combat for human beings. Humans are social creatures. It benefited us to have a way to express dominance without PERMANENTLY harming eachother. It wasn’t good for the species to knock each others teeth out, detach each others retinas, and break our hands on each others forehead everytime we had a small disagreement. Think of how Goats and Rams have skulls that have evolved to be super thick and shock resistant. That’s because their natural form of combat is head butting. If our natural form of combat was striking, our hands and feet would be waayyyy tougher.

Brother Mike. What is the value of a chin strap and head spin in that self defense tie up? I mean I know you prob wont “break a neck” and “end a fight instantly” but getting your neck violently cranked will certainly be a “fight changer” If youve ever been fish hooked and neck cranked at the same time (I have) you will agree it can really mess you up, I lost that fight btw.

You were saying that your leg muscle should just be able to break that grip right easy no problem.
