I said it. Jake Skywalker is an abortion of a character and is indefensible, but people still do with the same misunderstanding of Star Wars that a flat-earther has with the world. Rian Johnson is an ignorant buffoon who doesn't have the first CLUE about Star Wars, as expressed in his fan fiction we all know as the Last Jedi.
Film Description
The Last Jedi is a garbage movie created by a roundhead named Rian Johnson. Setting out to offend people, he wrote an abomination despised by everyone anchored to reality.

No one wrote Luke like this before ? Yes there is one : JJ Abrams. There is no way the Luke we knew in the original trilogy would let his best friend be killed by his nephew, and there is no way he wouldn’t come back after feeling the planets being destroyed or the villagers killed. Luke was already set up like this in The Force Awakens. Even Han said it : “Luke felt responsible he just walked away from everything.”. This was a set up of Luke being responsible of the turning of Ben Solo to the dark side. It’s The Force Awakens, not The Last Jedi, who set up Luke being different than he is in the original trilogy. The bad was already done before Rian Johnson came.

Luke didn't even know because he cut himself off from the force as penance and went into exile. He believed he was responsible for creating a new Vader and disturbing the balance by bringing back the Jedi. Because the dark side rose to deal with the Jedi returning. Though Disney didn't know what Sith was, Snoke and Ben Solo weren't Sith. and Kylo didn't have a Darth name.

I remember watching the last Jedi for the first (and only) time. I was confused why Luke acted that way and than I finally realized how shit it was. Hell I remember arguing with someone on lore master after someone brought up mark hamill not liking it this Luke and he tried saying it doesn’t matter what mark thinks since he’s not a writer despite the fact mark (while being nothing like Luke in real life) knows and understands the character of Luke. Heck the dude was trying to defend sequels Luke so hard he was lying saying that if you watch the originals you’ll see it’s in line with sequels Luke despite the fact that Luke never once had given up nor did he abandon his friends when they needed him. Hell he was talking about EU Luke is fanfiction which I found hilarious since it was more loyal to his character which that person tried to deny. It ended with the dude shutting up after I pointed out that none of the current writers of Star Wars care about Star Wars and even George Lucas doesn’t like Disney Star Wars. Edit: I even pointed out that Luke being really powerful in the EU is what happens when you work hard and train hard. Of course they didn’t understand it since most of these people most likely never worked hard in their life. Edit 2: and they tried arguing how George and mark had disagreements to show mark doesn’t understand Luke despite the fact George is the creator and mark knows George would have not liked this Luke.

Disney deliberately set out to not follow the Expanded Universe canon, KK said there were no books or comics to base the sequels on. Remember they called the EU legends and threw it all away for a reason. Do you think for a minute you were going to get that Luke. At best they might have seen the movies of 1-6, Rian I mean. I know JJ hated the prequel and probably only liked 4-6. Lore knowledge isn't important nor is hewing to either of the classic trilogies. Disney was resetting the Star Wars universe to make their Disney characters prominent over Lucas characters. It's how the Star Wars Saga of the Skywalker family, became the Saga of Rey Palpatine.

I heard that in George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy, Leia's daughter trained with Luke and her son chose not to train with Luke, instead spending more time with Han. Then he got corrupted by the Dark Side. This goes with concept art that shows "Darth Talon" seducing "Skyler" in an alleyway in a city. If this really was the story, then it makes a little more sense. Leia's son turns to the Dark Side because he spends time with Han having misadventures in the dark gritty criminal underworld. Not only is he immersed in a darker world, but he is enticed by Darth Talon, and falls for her teachings probably out of a twisted sense of love or attraction. Not only that, but theoretically, this is something that happens during the movies, meaning he starts out good and we see how he gets bad. I remember people from the Story Group saying in interviews that they made two changes to Episode 7. They combined Talon and Leia's son into the same character (probably because they thought it was more efficient) and they made him already bad (again, they probably thought that was more efficient). And they made his sister not be Leia's daughter. The problem with this is it makes Leia's son just be inexplicably evil. Not only does this deprive us of the experience of following him as a protagonist first, rooting for him, and mourning his fall, but it also leaves how he turned to the dark side vague. Because in the Disney sequels, Ben DID train with Luke, and Talon doesn't exist. So the question becomes -- just how did Ben turn to the Dark Side anyway? We're told "it was Snoke," but it's not clear how Snoke could have even accomplished this. Like, think about it: 1 -- Snoke is not an attractive woman like Talon, so how did he sell the Dark Side to Ben? 2 -- Ben was living with Luke for many years, so how and where would he have even met Snoke in the first place? Remember, Anakin was only seduced because he thought Palpatine was just a charming fatherly senator who had some esoteric knowledge. Palpatine didn't lead with the Dark Lord act, because it's a turn-off. And guess what? As soon as Anakin figured out he was the Dark Lord, it gave him pause. He literally ignited his lightsaber to kill Palpatine, but stayed his hand because he was trying to save Padme. But Snoke doesn't have a charming alter ego (at least that we know of). Rise of Kylo Ren tries to fix this by showing Snoke wearing a charming green outfit in that space-garden, acting like a kind old man. But it's still unclear how they met or how he sold the Dark Side to Ben. Leaving Ben's backstory that vague is extremely dangerous, because the next writer can say almost anything is responsible for Ben turning evil. And Rian Johnson thought it was a nifty idea to just say, "Well, it's Luke's fault. Luke is a sociopath who traumatized him. By the way, Snoke also 'turned his heart' beforehand. How? Who cares?" Removing Darth Talon opened the door for Sociopath Luke. I'll say it again: Removing Darth Talon opened the door for Sociopath Luke. and it's horrifying how carelessly they handled this. Yet people constantly say, "But this is an interesting direction for Luke / a Jedi character. It's an interesting / important thing to explore." THIS DID NOT HAVE TO BE LUKE. Why not invent a NEW CHARACTER, a Jedi who survived Order 66? Why not do a story set during the Empire where a scavenger girl finds this surviving Jedi and he's become disillusioned and has a past where he was a sociopath? Yeah, that could be interesting. But doing it with Luke completely derails Luke's whole character and story, and it's not worth it.

Its crazy cause if they just didnt add the part where luke tried to off his nephew over a vision, his fall could be believable. with his father, he never witnessed the majority of Vaders crimes so it was easier to see the good in him, so Luke trains the next generation of jedi, becomes close to them and Ben, Ben starts to slip and the students take notice but Luke tells them not to worry or something, in which Kylo commits a mini Order 66 on his new students, i can kinda believe he would go into hiding after that

That is why so much of them in TLJ are narcissistic and have a warped sense of the world(s) they are in. There are actual people who unironically say that Rian Johnson shouldn’t have to apologize to fans for making TLJ First of all Rian Johnson isn’t the one who created Star Wars, and is making a sequel to franchise people have loved for decades, with Mark Hamill repeatedly telling the director he disagrees with everything decided for his character, and if he makes a movie with creative choices that not a lot of fans are gonna like then Rian Johnson should to apologize for those people if they don’t like his movie. Especially when the movie he’s making is a part 8 to an already existing franchise people have loved for decades that he didn’t create in the first place. Actors a lot of times may disagree with the directors creative choices but you have to remember that Mark Hamill is the original actor for Luke in OT that was created by George Lucas, and Rian Johnson is not George Lucas, and so when the actor of Luke himself is the one telling the director who didn’t create Star Wars that he disagrees with how his character is portrayed, then maybe that should really be taken more seriously into consideration, and given the amount of backlash this movie received Mark Hamil actually had a point There’s a reason why in current day people have more respect for Batman and Robin director Joel Schumacher, and Spider-Man 3 director Sam Rami. Because despite making movie sequels that many fans hate these directors apologized to the fans for the movies they made because they respect their fans and they know how much the source material means to them. Because what a lot people really from want from directors that make bad movies in already existing franchises they love is respect, they wanna feel like the director actually respects his audiences intelligence and the source material they love, because you don’t expect people respect you as respectable director if your just gonna continue attacking the haters. Because if you apologize for the movie you and show that you respect the fans and franchise then maybe more people can forgive you as person despite having made TLJ and stop calling you a horrible person, if you just show them some damn respect I know Star Wars fans can be toxic but your the director who made a movie that is supposed to be continuity with a franchise that people have loved for decades that you didn’t create in the first place, of course there are certain people who are not gonna be happy with what you’ve done, but just because there a certain people who are toxic about it and may take things too far, doesn’t make you completely innocent on the matter, it’s like purposely riling a bear up by poking it with a stick, and pretending like your an innocent victim, when the bear attacks you. It’s important to be the better man instead lashing out at the haters adding more fuel to the fire of why people hate you When I say that Rian Johnson should apologize I don’t mean that he should feel ashamed for his own movie, I mean that he should apologize to the haters who don’t like the movie and his creative vision, and maybe try to let them know where he’s coming at, and apologize to the haters if his creative vision wasn’t working for them, and show that he respects this decades long fanbase of franchise created by someone else. Granted there was that one tweet he made apologize, but that is like one tweet buried many other tweets of him attacking haters, and he had gone so far down the rabbit hole in attacking haters that it’s a little hard for him to climb back with just that one tweet Because Star Wars is a beloved franchise with an already established lore and it’s own set of rules that has been around for decades and is not something Rian Johnson created, and so he kinda owes all the fans a little something when helming part 8 of franchise like Star Wars, and if a director like Rian Johnson does something the fans don’t like and they start going after him, maybe instead of attacking them maybe you can try seeing where there coming from and show them humility and respect. Because when your lashing out at haters you’re just making yourself look like an asshole and bully, and doing nothing but adding fuel to the fire of hatred towards yourself and your movie. It’s not about feeling sorry that you made a movie people fans hate, you can still stand by all of creative choices, it’s about respecting the fans, their intelligence, and the franchise that they love

I get your point of view. I respect a lot of what you’re saying- but I don’t think “apologise” is the right word. I honestly don’t think Johnson owes the people who hate his film that much, after all it was his job to make a film in the way he thought was best for it and he accomplished that. More so, Johnson could say that he sees where some people are coming from but he doesn’t see it from that point of view. Look, I don’t know too much about what Rian Johnson has done in response to the controversy and divisiveness surrounding Episode 8, but I don’t think he owes anyone anything for what he did, as long as he doesn’t try tearing down the people who have *respectfully* voiced their disdain for his movie. That being said, if he did validate both points of view, it would be a class act. Mark Hammil is a great example of this. He expressed his own dislike of the direction they went with Luke but he defended Rian as a good guy and respected those who enjoyed the film.

Schaffrillas isn't a Disney shill, he's just lacks the ability to actually analyze media or think critically, which I imagine is the bare minimum qualification required for any critic. He simply looks to regurgitate whatever the popular opinions are on Twitter or Letterbox, and comes up with any haphazard way to substantiate those claims using a heaping load of confirmation bias. Unfortunately, the most popular reviews tend to be reviews by Disney shills, and he ends up regurgitating what those pretentious "critics" say. It's fine to agree with them, but he should at least understand _why_ he agrees with them. Instead he chooses to spout the (often false) conclusions they came up with. I mean, concerning his stance on Jake Skywalker, Schaffrillas was all over the place. His initial belief was the Jake was a garbage character (as is the natural conclusion). But then later on, he changed his mind about Jake, and cited the reason for that change to be due to Jenny Nicholson's review. He thinks that just because some lobotomized "critic" gets paid to do reviews for a living it means that their opinions on a movie somehow hold more weight, and that he should be in denial of his own logical reasoning if someone with reasonable influence disagrees with him. As ambivalent as I feel about EFAP, they have done a stunning job at criticizing that kind of behavior. Soon, Schaffrillas noticed that the popular opinion was that Jake was a bad character, so he flipped back to disliking him, and desperately tried to justify it, but at that point everyone already knew that his opinions were preconceived, and he kind of just manufactures BS to justify his bad takes, so even when he has a good take, it's difficult to take him seriously, because he probably doesn't believe in it with conviction. It's okay to be wrong, but he should at least have some actual faith in his reasoning abilities. It's basically the exact same issue with CVH. Red Letter Media can at least come up with their own conclusions and use their brains to some capacity, but due to their massive hubris, they refuse to acknowledge when they are wrong, and that is arguably worse.

Yea people who defend Jake Skywalker are just fake fans. Luke learned at the of the OT that love and compassion are the strongest tools against the dark side. And that leaning into anger and violence just ends up corrupting you. Luke even CONSIDERING murdering his nephew is idiotic and shows that Rian has no fucking idea who the character of Luke is and the journey he went through. The REAL Luke would've tried his best to help Ben Solo find the light again by talking to him with understanding and compassion. And I'm not even saying this just because I like Luke, this would just be a LOGICAL continuation of Luke's character after all the lessons he learned in the OT. People also like to use the example of the duel at the end of ROTJ between Luke and Vader as an example of Luke losing his cool and giving in to the dark side after Vader mentions his sister. Which is such a stupid comparison. One situation is in the middle of a heated battle to the death with one of the most dangerous people in the galaxy and the other is Luke creeping into Ben's hut considering murdering him in his sleep. You can't make this shit up I swear. 🤦

I feel like the people who praise Luke’s depiction in TLJ really seem to be more fixated on just the general and idea of Luke being a fallen hero, that they never seem to really ever think about the actual execution and how little sense his characterization makes in context to whom he was in the original trilogy and the entire saga They love just the idea of Jake Skywalker and seeing him as a broken hero regardless of any actual logic or internal consistency within what was already previously established before, that would logically lead to his character going through such a drastic change I like the idea of a having character like Jake Skywalker, and I do believe fallen heroes can be very interesting and even great characters, but just not when your artificially changing an already established highly beloved and optimistic character like Luke Skywalker into something he’s not, just for the sake of trying force a story to happen, that makes no sense within an already established saga that you didn’t create in the first place

To be honest I find extended universe fans to be a little overly obsessive. I get it you enjoy the larger Star Wars universe. I love watching videos about it and love to see the stories come to the screen if possible. That being said loving the games and the Clone wars isn’t bad either. I hate the sequels but at the end of the day continuity for a much smaller subset of the fans can be quite restrictive. Not everyone has the time to engage with those stories. My best comparison is Halo and specifically Halo Reach. A lot of Halo extended universe fans hated the game because of continuity. However, a lot of people would say it was the best Halo game. Extended universes can be hard for story tellers and writers. The most important thing for me is a respect for the universe. If a retcon is going to happen to the EU have it be done with the same quality and care as the original content.

It didn't help that the EU got so much trash and hate back in 2014.

@@mazkeraid4039 I hate Disney I think there's a major difference between retconning things from a larger universe with respect and just disrespecting an entire franchise. This post is in regard to content still made under Lucas Films.

You know, people can like what they like, but I have the freedom to say that what they like is trash. It's called freedom of speach. If people get offended, then it's their problem, not mine.

@@spartacus936 Not necessarily. If you liked something I didnt and I still passionately believed its absolutely terrible, irredeemable garbage, that doesn’t make you wrong. It just means that its a hard disagree from me and I cant see your point of view.
