Zane Smith has made 22 NASCAR Cup Series starts and he's already catching strays on the internet. As a Trackhouse Racing development driver, his rookie season has been a disappointment at Spire Motorsports. Is it surprising? Not really given the circumstances of his NASCAR Cup Series situation.

Zane Smith is having a rookie season from hell much like Noah Gragson last year, Zane will find a better cup ride next year if Trackhouse buys a 3rd charter.

I really think it's more spire using the 71 as a research car, or not really listening to what zane needs. Dude is a champion

Zane Smith has made it to where he is by his talent & hard work & if he is given the other 3 legs of the stool " Crew chief, Pit crew, Equipment&Simulator Time " he would not be running at the back

He's a rookie driving for spire motorsports. Anyone who expected him in the front half of the field more than a couple times this season needs to check themselves. He still has a full career ahead of him

Zane is a good driver but he should have went to the xfinity series first

Same could be said about JHN. Less than a year ago, many (including myself), felt he coulf step into the 19 after MTJ retires, e.g. - if he does a year or two in the 42. However, after a handful of months of running where the car should be, everyone forgets how dominant he has been the past 3yrs and focuses in on Chandler Smith. If JHN stayed in Xfinity for another year, he for sure would be outperforming Smith and still be in the conversation of the 19 car. Whether he would be best suited for it or not, what annoys me is everyone has forgotten so quickly how good he actually is. Its been years since he ran cup, give him time. Christopher Bells first season was sub-par, but still found a way to get promoted.

Zane did better at FRM part time then Spire full time

He is in a weird situation in a spire/Trackhouse prepared car etc he will do better next year once he is in house at Trackhouse

My theory:Since zane Smith is on a loan with spire for trackhouse, I feel like spire gives him trash cars since he is on a loan and will leave the team. Next year with Michael McDowell, I feel like they could spend more money. In conclusion,zane Smith is in a underpaid car

Your wins by a cup rookie in the modern era is incorrect. 48 Jimmie Johnson won three races in his rookie season, not two. He won California and then went off to dominate both Dover races. Johnson and Stewart hold the record of 3 wins in their rookie season in the history of the sport.

I am waiting to pass judgement on him until we see how he does at his second trip to various tracks. If he doesn't show improvement at Richmond, Bristol, or Kansas then it might be time to start being concerned.
