Ok so Lila Pitts is one of the big new comers in Season Two that ends up becoming attached to the Umbrella Academy in several ways. Like the members of the group she was born on October 1st 1989 with her mother showing little to no signs of pregnancy. Unlike the family though, Lila was not adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves and instead she was raised by her parents in London.
After realising that super powered beings may one day lead to the downfall of all life itself, The Handler decided that she needed to build her own army of soldiers and thus she started to put a plan into action.
Because there were 43 children all born with special abilities this massive number could vastly overwhelm any army on earth and the character came to the conclusion that she would need to match them on a level playing field. So she started to study the individuals that would add the most to her army and this is when she came across the one size fits all solution to her problem...Lila.
Lila has the ability to mimic those with superpowers and she is very much about taking ones strength and turning it into a weakness. Due to years of practice, Lila is able to completely master someones abilities within an instant, though her powers are limited to one person at a time.
We see this demonstrated to great success in the finale when she tells Allison to stop breathing and yeah...you went too far.
We discover that The Handler was responsible for Lila's parent's deaths in 1993 and that she hired Number 5 to kill them.
Incase you don't know the Temps Comission travel through time assassinating people that may eventually become problematic and The Handler made the job seem like the utmost importance to Five, hiding the truth about her true intentions.
After Five had disposed of the pair, The Handler took the child and started to train her.
Lila is already an expert in hand to hand combat and add to this her mimic abilities she's not one to be messed with. Because she's so good at adapting and fitting any situation, the Handler sent her to stalk Diego Hargreeves and when he was committed to an insane asylum for trying to stop the assassination of JFK she soon became a member of the institution.
Lila led to the characters escape and this made Diego trust her.
The Sparrow Academy
Now how they were formed we don't know for definite but personally I believe that after meeting the original Hargreeves in the Sixities, Sir Reginald decided that they were complete screw ups and thus adopted seven other individuals instead.
As he never met Ben due to the character being a ghost, he didn't have the foresight to avoid choosing him and thus scooped him up, though it seems like this may have been a bad choice.

Now as for the members of the Academy, the big elephant in the room is of course well Ben.
In the original timeline the character died whilst out on the job, however here is live and kicking looking like a My Chemical Romance fan that just discovered their top tens songs video by WatchMojo.

Not all of the 43 children survived. In the comics it explains that some of the children born died either of their mother dying of blood loss or being abandoned by their mothers.

One thing I hated was how Klaus treated Ben. Ben would ask him constantly to let them know he was there, and he always dismissed him. It was disappointing.

Yeah. Ben was seemingly the most genuine after 5. Even though 5 left he genuinely cares for his family, even "Dad" and repeatedly tries to save their stupid lives. The rest seem to selfishly only care about their own self-interests over the family.

I do agree but I also think Klaus probably always thought Ben would be there... that he was stuck there and couldn’t move on. He took it for granted. I was more upset at the mild reaction everyone had after Ben was gone again. 😢

Well someone interfered .... The question is who and why would reginald refused to adopt the six (seven) . What happend in s2. That may changed this.. i got 4 person that i think it may influence in this changes.. lila, can travel forth to the past and can change the past. Sissy and harlan. These two people knew the siblings identities and harlan retained powers may became big shot in the future. And lastly mom. They met her in the past s2.

But the Grace raising the children was a robot, while the Grace in the past was a human. We don't know yet what happened, but most likely human Grace dumped Regi therefore he built a robot substitute, or Regi had to kill the human Grace as she knew too much and brought her back as an obedient robot...

My issue with that episode was why wasn’t she using her powers prior to this episode? Why did they bombard us with all these powers at once? Seemed like sloppy writing to make the plot twist more shocking which in the end didn’t tell us more

Logical Fallacy Detector also it is likely that the handler didn’t want her to reveal the powers until it was time to face the siblings, so they would be totally unprepared and unaware of what she was capable of.

@@BootyWarrior80892 Lila's powers were revealed in the prior episodes. During their escape from the asylum, she was able to mimic Diego's fighting skills. There's also an episode where she went one on one with Number 5, where it was shown she teleports (which was explained in the season finale, that she actually mimics powers).

Simple explanation as to how Reggie avoided the original siblings: his monocle shows who someone truly is. He’d just just have to look at the babies and know what their powers are I’m guessing.

The cool thing with the umbrella academy is that no detail is missed, and nothing is included in the scene without a purpose. They’ve included shots of the monocle several times, so it must serve a purpose in the show too

@Bud Borne Reginald knows Ben when he went into Klaus' body during their small dinner scene, however he didn't know what Ben looks like hence the reason why he still adopted the "new" Ben in Sparrow Academy. I think he will also be getting a new name since if you have subtitles during that scene it only says [man speaking] something like that

During the scene where the Umbrella Academy visited Reginald Hargreeves in the past, Allison used her "I heard a rumor" power. This might have given Reginald the knowledge of her powers which were, of course, in the future taught to Allison. This is an example of the bootstrap paradox where something has no origin, no beginning and no end.

If you pay attention to that little scene in which the Sparrow Academy appears at the end of the series, next to that flying cube is one of the members that seems to wear a hood covering his face just like this character from HQ who is capable of transmitting pain to enemies

They shouldn't have let Lila escape, she escaped before even knowing that her mom got her parents killed. If she doesn't go back in time to see it for herself who killed them, she'll want to take revenge from Five, and can mess up the future timeline. I think she may be in the sparrow academy

no, as you can see lila had parents and was taken by the handler when she was 4. clearly means she wasn’t adopted by reginald + she is the only child and that i think is the reason why her parents kept her. and also when reginald adopts the umbrella academy we can clearly see that he took them when they were babies. even make more sense.

She escaped after Five had already explained everything. Five turned back time only to the point when Handler was about to kill everyone, so Five's and Diego's speeches were already done. The only thing Lila didn't get is the Handler's confession because the Swedish dude killed her (though she didn't get a confession originally anyway). In my opinion Lila believed in what Five said. So I think she is now an antihero, not a villain. Wouldn't make much sense to me if she was in the Sparrow Academy now.

Wasn’t really all that hidden, they revealed last season that he was an alien from that cut scene from another earth where he is with his dying wife I assume and she gives him Vanya’s Violin and tells him to give it to someone who deserves it and he leaves and you see spaceships shooting off into space (maybe fleeing the planet?) just they revealed that how he looks isn’t his true form. But yes I’m really interested to see where that goes!

There wouldn’t have been dopplegangers. If everything went on the og timeline it would be the og team. The time travel is the same as marvels. You don’t change your future you change what timeline your on. So right now they created a different timeline.

@@Wow30035 Actually the problem with that is that we are essentially dealing with parallel universes now. From what we see in the show with how time travel works. Or at least massive leaps in time, each action no matter how small may lead to ripples and if they time travel forward then they are not simply moving through time like a time jump forward but instead they are jumping to a parallel universe set in the future. In this world they never time jumped back nor was their an imminent apocalypse. Thus there would still be an existing version of each of them somewhere in the world. And going by this logic, they are unable to go back to their original world/timeline. In fact that was never really their goal to begin with since there would still be an apocalypse. Timetravel is tricky and confusing. But from the logic that they seem to be going by then yes they are no longer able to go back to whence they came from. If they keep jumping back in time and then back to the present they are only travelling through parallel worlds with different histories in which they have influenced. As such, any 'timeline' they jump to from now on will always have 2 pairs of each of the umbrella academy existing within the same time period throughout its history.

@@Wow30035 Take note though that my statement only holds for the current level of power we see number five and the briefcase use. What you are talking about is not time jumps but universal jumps. If they want to return to their 'original' timeline or the branch that connects to that original timeline, then they shouldnt be physically timetravelling. There can be 2 ways that I imagine might have been possible for them to return to their branch of timeline divergence. If youve ever watched Steins;Gate I find that the most logical way. 1. You send your consciousness back in time so as to prevent their being 2 of you existing at the same time. 2. Five gains much better control over spacetime manipulation where he specifically reverses time rather than jump through spacetime. Whenever Five 'time jumps' he is tearing through the fabric of space to create a gateway to the past of present seemingly. Instead it makes more sense to say that he is creating a door to a parallel universe/timeline. So if he can control his power to reverse time better rather than time jumping then that would have prevented a case in which 2 of them now exist. At this point though where there are 2 versions of each existing in the same space, they would have to go back to exactly their 'original' timeline somehow in order to prevent dopplegangers. This means that Five would have to discover new powers that focuses on spatial dimensional travelling in which he can calculate the exact 'timeline' his original world is part of and then literally create a gateway that leads to that world in which both worlds are exisiting at the same 'time' but in a different space unlike his previous jumps where they existed in a different time but similar space, until they diverged due to historical alterations. Basically he would need to be able to do something along the lines of what the Flash in the tv series does when travelling through different 'Earths'.

PhantomzK yea it’s kinda confusing but I do like how they went with that version of time travel instead of the back to the future thing. The best way I think ab is right before the apocalypse they went back to the 60s and that cause a new timeline to branch off into a new one we know now.

I dont think it's a parallel universe. It's the same timeline where they came from, only that it has a few changes due to their actions back in the past. But, come to think about it, I cant imagine how the siblings feel of being replaced with another group of kids by their own father who raised them. Just when they thought dad couldnt be more of an asshole.

I understand where you're coming from when you say that the " Elephant In The Room ", ( I really do ) was seeing Ben at the end still alive and kicking, but for me it has to be the Dad being a Lizard/Alien. After that curve hit, my mind started to race about everything. From the moment he sent Luther to the moon, ' faking ' his own death, and even the fact of him being such a genius when it comes down to his vast knowledge of technology. 1.In season 2 they changed the time line 2. Without 5s younger self none of this would be possible so. And they basically made one of those paradox things like how idk. Avengers Endgame time travel 3/4. alison's abilities are based on her imagination and Diego has low level telekinesis so he is basically Jean gray but his powers are downgraded 5. Bullets have a smaller surface level so they can pierce his skin idk 6. They were literally about to meet them at the end of S2 7. When Reginald was talking with 5 after he met the family 5 probably told him everything so then Reginald knew who he shouldn't pick because the family were total duck ups

Kimberly Jeanne it doesn’t. OP His power is trajectory manipulation. He can change the direction and velocity of any projectile in motion. For instance if u threw a bottle at him he could manipulate it too. He often uses throwing knives because they are an efficient, lethal and easy to use outlet for his powers. He could do the same with a bow and arrow, bullets etc. The opportunity just never presented itself.

@Conorr In the way I see it, old No.5 went back to the original timeline in 2019 and set all things we know in motion moments before the timeline was altered. Remember the scene were some tech guy in the control room mentioned an anomaly and a "big one" ? He was referred to Harlan getting his powers and I believe this was the event that created the alternate timeline. So, after that moment in time, since the timeline was never fixed by the Commission, the Umbrella Academy travelled through time to the new alternate timeline instead of their original one. Confusing yes but I think that's what happened.

There are two things I don't understand with the theory that Reginald Hardgreeves didn't adopt them on purpose. First, as he adopted them as babies, there is no way he would know who there will become. Second, when 'old' Five returns to 2019 to maintain the timeline, you can still see the members of the Umbrella Academy in the vortex. As it takes place after the diner with their dad, it probably means that Reginald still adopted them after this diner. So I think there is only three major differences after Five returns to 2019 that can potentially change this outcome: first is the fact that Five is in his adult form and knows the cause of the apocalypse (the story will be different from season 1, but maybe they will still end up in Dallas and mess it up somehow). And then there are Harlan and Lyla, than can also change the timeline as you said. For me, one of those free causes the origin of the Sparrow Academy.

the thing is that we dont know how time works in this series, there are many theories, there can be different timelines divided in branches, so when old Five goes back to 2019 he goes back to the original branch, making a new branch if he stays in his old form, or not if he goes back to his child form and doesnt remember anthing, or if there is only one timeline that is affected by the changes in the past, you are right, but if the timeline is branched when a change happens, that theory doesnt make sense, but we need confirmation from the creators. In my opinion in order for the sparrow academy to exist the time needs to work in branches

Not gonna lie i hated how Lila can just counter and beat everyone it felt so weak and stupid to watch. It should have been a more even fight or act least a back and forth with abilities. I already know she is gonna suddenly not gonna be as good as she was in season 2 and somehow a villain can counter her perfectly like she did Vanya which was also another stupid thing as Vanya just floated there and let her take her out.

I love the character but, as always with antiheroes, they overpowered her. Even if she can mimic only one power, she has the ability to make it stronger/more powerful than its original "owner,", meaning she can use any one of their abilities alone and take down all of the Academy. She could rumor them all to death in seconds.

Cube guy actually has telepathy and can levitate things as seen in the first panel they all appear in. There are red bubbles floating around everyone and the mutants are floating. Except the cube has no red bubbles around him which means he was making them float, and this is confirmed to be from someone’s powers as there are no other red bubbles featured in this battle. (You can see this panel I’m taking about at 4:09)

have you read the comic? because the umbrella academy was also capable of flying during missions. It's because they have a device in their belt that allowed them to fly. So with that particular panel, you pointed out, it could be also from the same device as the umbrella academy. (And you can see that red bubbles were always near their hips, where the belt was)

@@jacksonland2091 why would it be the same tech need to have same feature? There could be slight different since it's a different team too. Maybe to match up with their uniform, idk. But though we haven't seen whether or not they are flying because the device or from the cube's power is still unknown at this point. Also also, i took consideration of the umbrella academy kids and how they are flying pretty much the same like the sparrow academy in that panel. So i still stand that it's because the device in their belt that they're capable of flying.

@LoNE` that is a valid point as the 56 year difference between 1963 and 2019 is big enough to where Vanya could be Harlan’s grandchild, but there are some things to consider: 1. Harlan lives in the US and Vanya’s mother in Russia. They could still be related, just very unlikely 2. Harlan was mentally disabled and that might have lessened the possibility of him surviving long enough. Not saying that Vanya is not related to Harlan. Just saying that the possibility for them being related is pretty low.

you say“omg, ben’s still alive!” but then say that they’re completely different kids with different superpowers. personally I think that they’re characters from a different universe, so there’s a Five, Sparrow!Five, Vanya, Sparrow!Vanya, etc. I also believe that Harlan is a key point to the Sparrow Academy, seeing as he levitated a wooden sparrow in the final shot of him.

In terms of Reginald knowing which children were which, that could be because of the monocle. In the comics it's shown that the monocle can reveal someone's true nature, with Five seeing how Pogo was experimented on after trying it out. So it makes sense that he could use it to determine which infants ould become which screw-ups. Would be a bit odd for a device of this power to not reveal Ben's presence but the monocle's capability is about as well defined as Vanya's exact power so...

What does the sparrow academy slogan say? TUA slogan is Ut Malum Pluvia (When Evil Rains - Umbrellas protect vs rain). It looks like the first word is Canticum (is that latin for chants or spells?). Is it Canticum in Tenebris (Spells in Darkness? Song in the Dark?) The crest changed as well. From Umbrella, Lightning (storm?), Skull (death?), domino mask to Sparrow, Crossed Swords, Bleeding Eye (crying eye?), and Keyway (lock?).

I agree that Harlan is probably involved with the Sparrow Academy somehow and of course, Reginald is the one they listen to and trains them but I wonder if The Handler is involved as well. It could tie in with your theory about Lila as well. In the first season when 5 is recruited by the handler in the apocalypse he questions why the end of everything needed to happen, The Handler said it was just “the end of something” this was also the episode title for when we first meet the Sparrow Academy. There are a lot of sparrows throughout the season but one in particular that stands out is when The Handler is in the bath, there is a sparrow on her head. There is also one on the towel, as there is in a lot of other scenes in the background but fact there was already a sparrow there yet there was another placed on the head of The Handler while she is reading 5s file is suspicious. She’s been involved with the Temps Commission for a long time so she is aware of a lot more and is power hungry. Maybe I am reading too much into it and just hoping they find a way to involve the handler because I loved that character so much.

My theory is the floating green cube is the one responsible for levitating the whole group. Its seen floating in the air and i think it can also make others float as well

in the comics, the umbrella academy also capable of flying. That is because they have a device in their belt made by Reginald to make them float. So i wouldn't be surprised if the sparrow academy have the same kind of device.

Well I guess we better put on our seatbelts because the comics are expanding. I have a feeling that this eventually will lead to an "endgame" part where they have all 43 powered kids in one series.

Hargreeve's was writing notes down about each of the kid's abilities when he met them in 1963. He most likely wrote down their positive and negative traits, for future reference in picking the right children for the Sparrow's

The floating cube could be similar to the Tesseract, which was later found to be the space stone, WHICH can maneuver space, *WHICH* five is able to do. I think a tesseract has something to do with time but idk :/

Wouldn't it be unlikely that Lila would be one of the Sparrows? Considering that she got picked by the handler in her 8th year ish and met the Umbrella Academy in her 20's while the academy got picked as infants? If anything it seems unlikely that the sparrow were picked as infants at all, but as teenagers or adults.

I don't know if my theory stands. If you notice carefully when the Umbrella academy dines with Reginald Hargreeves where Diego showcases his knife throwing power, Reginald writes all their powers in his book. He does this because he knows now that as they are from the future, he succeeded in getting them as their students. So he expands the academy by mentioning 'Sparrow Academy', because he can easily replace the students whose power he doesn't see fit. Another theory is that Diego messed all up by talking to Grace too much about Reginald's involvement in JFK. Which led her to break up with Reginald.
