Number 5 History
Ok so Five was born on October the 1st 1989. In Umbrella Academy lore this is a special day as it signalled the arrival of 43 children all blessed with amazing abilities.
Five is no exception to this and the character is able to dissolve and reform his own matter at will. This gives him the ability to not only teleport but it also allows him to move backward and forwards through time.
Five can sometimes use this on those around him and because of his powers he was able to journey back to the sixities with the rest of his family. He also at one point switched out a criminals gun with a stapler, showing that he may possess the ability to move objects too though he rarely uses it.
Because Five is actually 58 he's managed to pick up a wealth over skills over his lifetime and these have molded him into a master combatant. Five is a skilled assassin that uses his knowledge of warfare to easily dispatch his foes and because of this he's not someone that you want to trifle with.
So basically Five is Nightcrawler from the X-men with the ability to time travel.
Now whilst his temporal powers sounds like a really cool thing to have with them comes several consequences and after every jump through time, five creates an alternate reality that tends to lead to the apocalypse. In addition to due to his innability to fully control his Chronokinesis, rather than moving through time, time moved through Five thus he ended up becoming trapped in his younger body which he has remained in since jumping to 2019.
Now in the comics, Five doesn't age at all, he remains stuck in his ten year old body and just doesn't grow.
It's revealed in the comics that because he was their greatest assassin, the Temps actually experimented on him and made it so that he wouldn't age. This is why when he goes back to his younger self he just doesn't grow up.
However, I think due to Aidan Gallagher aging more and more as the seasons go on, the show will have him growing up once more and aging as normal with him essentially just restarting his life.

I can't help but wonder: Will they ever give Number Five a human love interest in the show? I've thought about it and it seems like any way you cut it, it's creepy. He's a 58 year old man in a young teenager's body. He has to find someone who's exactly like him for it not to be creepy which is a tall order.

How many man +50 yeals old have a 20-year-old partner eithr because they are rich or/and still attractive in their fifties lets not go for the ''gold diggers' just look the age of many actors wives hlalf of them are like 20 years younger and no one is disguted by it because the respective elder partner looks amazing for his age. Btw how that old man looking 75 is supposed to be 58 Five? Let's be real him being 58 is not the problem iit's him being i a younger body because in this case he is supposed to grow, it's him looking like a kid with a mentality of an adult therfore not interested in girls the age he looks but while he looks like a young boy giving him an adult love interest will be creepy for the viewers and probably the actor. So yeah till he grows a bit it will be complicated unless they introduce a young lady with +200 IQ so for now I guess Dolores will do. And now I just realized that 58 years Five never even had a real girfriend, man..this is depressing.

It's a little plot hole that Five calls our for Ben and Vanya instead of using their numbers right after he ends up in the apocalypse. Either it was either a mistake or Five decided not to have a name on purpose.

I think the show will have normal ageing, because, live action. Actors continue to visibly age, teens especially so I think they'll just have Five age as normal in the show. Basically he's found immortality.

I thought the reason he got stuck in the future was that he hadn't yet figured out how to travel backwards in time. How did he manage to travel back to the 60's with all his brothers and sisters at the end of season 1? If he could travel backwards in time, why was he unable to escape the apocalyptic future?

Five doesn't figure out the proper mathematical equation to travel back until he's at JFK's assassination. He still gets it off which is why when he returns to 2019 he is in his child body. When he time travels them all back at the end of season one, he still hasn't mastered it leaving them all stuck in different periods of time in the 60s (but thankfully not all in their child bodies).

I actually thought this actor was an older actor who was playing a child. I thought they used CGI or some other technology to give him the Benjamin Button treatment. I am blown away by how talented this actor is. The entire cast is incredible. The writing is amazing. This show has quickly become an addiction.

I wonder what name Grace gave him. In the show we know the characters were already given names at his disappearance based on the flashbacks, he calls out Vanya and Ben's names when he winds up in the end of the world so I wonder what it is, I dunno maybe Robot Mommy gave him a stupid name.

I think each would be the opposite personality wise of the team. So instead of being a sociopath cube. It’s a compassionate dimensional cube. I could definitely see a supernatural comedy for just these two guys alone. Also, I always felt that 5 was more focused on in the show. Which makes sense, he’s supposed to be the insert of a person who already knows everything that will happen and is trying to change it.

Everyone already had a name, it was never explained why Five didn't get one. He called out to Vanya and Ben in the apocalypse, hence why we know that the kids were already named

I believe that there’s a few theories about that. One of them is that five was gone for so long that everyone, including him, forgot his name. And the other is that Grace offered to give him a name and he basically said nah I’m good.

I always thought if Five had a real name that itd be Hank. Short efficient one syllable name, Hank is the name of “Beast” from Marvel’s X-Men another comic book big brainer and has a little bit of a temper kinda like Five

Oh I most certainly do. Of the opinion it's second season ranks among the best all time for follow ups to good first seasons. You could definitely tell the writers/actors/production/direction of this show really found itself this season. Hype for season 3. Have you caught anything in that new sci Fi show Raised (with/by?) Wolves? Has the dude who played Ragnar in Vikings in it? I've only seen the first trailer for it, but it looks to be super interesting.

I believe that 5 jumped them to an alternate universe/time-line because of all the sparrow references. Reginald would have still bought the umbrella company in 1920 what ever. So it would stand to reason that it would still be called the umbrella academy. Just my thoughts.

With Christopher the same thing that Hargreaves did to Luther was what happened to Christopher, He ended up being near death so Hargreaves transferred his consciousness to the cube, where he got the cube remains to be answered but he’s a monocle soooo I guess this answers that aswell .

I don't think 5 ages the actors does sure but technically for him from season 1-2 it was only like 20 days or so so he would be the same age so the character doesn't age but the actor might

i feel like five is a mix of a 13yr old boy and a 58 yr old man ..somehow . i mean , he never got to age naturally ,, he was forced into years of solitude & madness at just 13 . becus of this i suspect that’s why he doesn’t appear to be as mature as you’d expect a 58 year old to be. i still see five as a teenager who is just awfully mature & slightly sociopathic lol ,. he has the mannerisms of an older man, but stilll acts like a teenager in ways ! etc. his sassiness , arrogance,, sarcasm .. & also his humour !! he’s such a well developed character anddd i can’t wait to see him in action in season 3 !, however i hope he actually gets some rest & love from his siblings c:

Maybe because there are hardly any funny/comic scenes with her. Even the rumor has funny scenes. Like that strange tension and the jokes the other do about her and Luther, or when she makes Diego punch himself in the face. You don't have that with Vanya.
