Del, not a criticism but a tip,when using bare wire with mig you should be pushing the wire not pulling it.
@Moonfleet41

I usually do Garry, its easier to 'see' the join.. but i found that 'walking' the gas cup across the join gives me just as much feel.. just trying out different methods t see what makes the best weld... these came out pretty good if maybe a bit thick, i don't usually weld thick angle iron..! Thank for your insight buddy.. have a good weekend.. Del.

Just a question, I've been looking at getting a supermig180 but as its rated at 16amp input it put me off, but I noticed you installed it on a standard 13amp plug with no issues, would I be able get away with it and just not go over a certain amperage?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, yes that's a good point, TEMPORARILY I installed a regular plug for this particular project, but shortly after I had a commando socket fitted in the garage by a local electrician and so was able to run it at full power... in my new premises where I am at the moment, I still only have domestic sockets, so am running a commando to 3 pin adapter lead and like you say, just running it on lower amperage, which is plenty for what I do... this machine has more ability than you're likely to need for any domestic automotive project.

hi nice one . question what plug and fuse do you use , bit woried as some say 16 amp and 25 amp industrial plug. got mine today. whats settings did you have on your welder.thanks .
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, if you read the specification of your welder it'll state clearly whether it's 13amp or 16 amp, if 13amp you can use a regular domestic plug, but if it's 16amp and the wire coming out the machine is thicker than normal, then you need to use what I believe is referred to as a 'commando socket', or some even call it a caravan socket... I just had a local electrician come along and fit one, cost me £60, took him 1/3hr including parts... and for what it's worth, he said to me that if you're using the machine at anything less than 1/2 power, then you could use a 13amp plug BUT... it's pretty difficult to wire the fat wiring in to a domestic plug, so if you do have a 16amp machine, get yourself a commando socket fitted!

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
@@brianbrown4965 Not sure what you mean by " female for the 16 amp to the uk plug"... if you fit a male Commando plug on to your machine, you need to get an electrician to wire in a 16amp socket outlet on your wall, so you're drawing 16amps from the main building feed. You'll need this to run higher ampage if you have a 16amp machine, put it on an extension lead won't work. If you're in doubt mate, chat with an electrician and they'll give you the best advice.

Personally I would rather have the welder up higher on a cart so that the controls are easier to see and change. All of my everlast welders are on carts for this vary reason.

Impact driver before welder, then you can put it together a lot faster and easier. Hand tools in 2019. wow!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 4 жыл бұрын
Old school mechanic mate, hand tools are a tradition throughout my life and a pleasure to use, I actually cringe these days online when I see kids using impact drivers for absolutely everything, even taking out fairing screws, it's laziness or, perhaps, an inability to use hand tools properly... I will use such tools when I can afford them.

@@Moonfleet41 Fare play. I have learned the hard way with shearing bolts and over tightening with my impact driver it does take some time to learn the power. I still use the ratchet / torque wrench for final tightening on car bolts most times but always wiz it in or out quick on the different guns for laziness and speed efficiency. Milwaukee are 100% leading the way with 18v impact drivers / wrenches / angle grinders but a small British company called Kielder make excellent value for money Brushless kit as well. Very affordable SGS Engineering sell both brands next day free delivery. Great video by the way, Thanks for the reply.

@@Moonfleet41 :) Im really glad you agree:) Value for money Kielder is really good aswell: All brushless and 3 year warranty, UK company made for Mechanics. The impact wrench is market leading power to size (700NM to 172mm length) it rips wheel bolts off 4x4 and everything with ease, even rusted caliper carrier and wheel hub to carrier bolts like a knife through butter. Milwaukee is better though and I can admit it. I bought into Kielder years ago and now have everything they sell. lol I would buy Milwaukee if i started again however honestly,

@@concrete981 Hi buddy, sorry I didn't realise you were in the States, and you run lower domestic voltage than us... here in the UK all homes run 240v from our regular wall sockets so all our appliances, even a hairdryer, work on that, so this welder is the standard 230 rated machine, but it benefits from a 16amp speed to run it on full power...

Hi mate I’m currently looking at buying this welder, do you recommend it? Can you get the bigger wire spools for this? Is it argon you are using if it is where do you get it from? Thank you, great video by the way - you have the workshop looking good.

Yes I would recommend it, it's a great unit, more power than you'll ever need... I just use the 5kg spool as with what I do it lasts me years, but you can get bigger ones... and yes, I use MIG-mix which is 98% Argon & 2% CO2, available from any of the weld supply shops, I use Wellington Welding, the branch in Poole in Dorset.
