This video will show you - How to make CHOLENT!! This cholent is delicious and super easy to make! We enjoy having it for our Shabbat lunch during the winter months :)
Hope you enjoy!
💡 INGREDIENTS 💡
1 kg meat (people love meat, so extra is usually a great idea :) (make sure marbleized)
1 cup of dry barley (white, small pearls)
2 onions - cut into chunks
2 potatoes - cut into chunks (We don't like them in the cholent, also it freezes beautifully without potatoes)
2 cups of beans - soaked overnight/for a few hours (we add 1 cup of soaked white+1 cup of soaked red)
❤️Spices❤️
2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoon sweet paprika
2 teaspoon granulated garlic / also fresh chopped garlic is good too.

It brings back such great memories of my Eastern European mother-in-law (may her memory be a blessing) and her delicious cholent. Can’t wait to make it 😊 PS: I’ll definitely include peeled and cut russet potatoes-it completes the dish, IMO.

The recipe is great for me. The amount of the salt makes sense! I bought from outside several times. it was tasteless. I also thought about adding fat meat inside.😊

That looks so good and nourishing!!! Did you celebrate the Sukkot holiday? If so, did you enjoy it? I’ve seen some other ladies online show their sukkah and it looks like such a neat holiday!! This is a random question, but I was wondering if people ever take a tour of the journey in the wilderness from Egypt to Israel? You know how people love to camp out and hike, I was just curious if groups or individuals ever tried to reenact the journey? If you were to leave Goshen and travel the way Moses led the people, how long would it take to walk it? Could you still see monuments/alters they left (like in Joshua 4 where he told them to place 12 stones after they crossed the Jordan.)? Are those stone memorials there today? You do know I could ask you a million questions, don’t you???? 😂 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤

Ya it's a great holiday! 😍 Most Israelis\Jews are not that eager to go to Egypt, mainly because of the perception of hostility towards us. Some of my friends did go to Sinai though :) Its not a journey that we reenact, hehe cool thought though. There are really cool alters from the time of Joshua in Mount Gerizim and Mount Eival, interesting historical places to visit!

I always add the fatty ingredients at the bottom so the fat gets into everything else as it floats. And also always put bones in to thicken it up.

@@tamarmeisels4637 I used to use potatoes to thicken the chulent but the way it thickens it is more starchy thickness but the way fatty meat like flanken and bones thicken it is richer and gives a more haimishe chulenty creaminess.

This looks amazing! Is it okay to use brown lentils instead of the beans? Or are beans the better option? Is it the beef or lamb meat you are using? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks so much for sharing this! And Am Israel chai! 🇮🇱 🕊️

It's great, I love questions 💕💕😊 So I would say the traditional one from Eastern Europe was mostly made with red or white beans and beef with beef bones. But of course many people substitute all types of beans with any type of beans! My friend uses lentils, comes out good but a bit of a mushy look 😂 Also some people def use beef chicken/ Turkey lamb or even vegetarian 😋 Sefardic Jews often use lamb.

Can we make with goat meat?
@tamarmeisels4637
@tamarmeisels4637 3 ай бұрын
Never had that, but sounds like it could def work. Generally the meat used in cholent has some fat which gives the cholent its unique flavor. People that use more lean cuts will generally add oil or other fats.

what kind of meat is this?
@tamarmeisels4637
@tamarmeisels4637 Жыл бұрын
The type of mean can vary- some use flanken (fatty), while others use rib/neck or asado/osobuku. I generally like to use asado 😋 Basically you can use any stewing meat, preferably one that is not too fatty, but that does have some marbleized fat so it wont dry out.

Wow 😲 sorry to hear that, what was the issue? I'm surprised as this is a pretty standard recipe. Curious to know what was not good, so I can possibly let others here who want to try it out know what to avoid. Again srry to hear, I know how frustrating it can be when things don't turn out well and I hope we can help others avoid this!
