That chip the sic 632 is commonly used on sapphire polaris gpus. If you have them laying around you could easily have one for a donor.

That's correct, it can also be found on some nvidia gpus as well. Was that the discrete graphics power delivery circuit on the motherboard?

Good progress from last asus video , that's how you supposed to do it when cpu getting hot checking voltage on coils will tell you if a line is shorted tho to be save use 0.5v not 1v (alternatively you can point negative multimeter probe on current sensing resistor (big low ohm resistor just after 2 protection mosfets) and positive proble on all coils and the one with similar resistence to current sensing resistor will be shorted) now saying that cpu may be still dead in this case its a 50/50 scenario....if aftet replacing that drmos you'll get error code 2 red 1 blue that's means cpu died ....also you can check svid alert# signal and svid_data svid_clock with oscilloscope to confirm if cpu died.....

Only real electronic engineers like yourself have the skills to diagnose and repair down to component level these days, in the mid 1970s I was a TV engineer doing component level repairs. Today it has become just a case of board replacement or “panel bashing” as we called it. Great to see real repairs still happen in a proper workshop.

A real technician doing work ,I will say what everyone is thinking since most technical support are forced to abide by a insanely limiting insurance contract or using inexperienced guess work without it training or troubleshooting which would allow for repairs without fixing the actual problem of the system not working or turning on it's very annoying.

I build a lot of pcb's for myself and I learned from watching you how to get rid of shorts on SMD IC's. Originally I was struggling a bit to start but with a bit of practice I can do it well now. The drag method works well.

i appreciate your work. That chip has dual mosfet with pwm. The upper mosfet was short. So 19v directly goes to cpu and create short. May be the lower mosfet and upper mosfet inside the chip short cause the problem.

Am glad you made this video. I had a bus accident with my M17 r3. After the accident, I turned it on but to my greatest surprise it came up but the screen was broken so i used the HDMI port to my TV. Everything was fine, only that it was not charging when I plugin my charger. It refuse to charge until the battery ran down and the laptop went off. It not been able to charge up till now. Could this be a DC IN POWER JACK problem cos I was told the laptop can work like a desktop without the battery? No sign of charger going into protection mode like you showed in your video.

Would love to see how you mounted your magnifier on the anglepoise arm to your desk as I am having some difficulties with mounting mine as its a very heavy Luxo ex military and all I have is one of them silly friction clamps. how do you know were to inject the voltege do you have the schematics to the componnets like on the mosfits ? or do you put 1.2 volt on any leg
@jeanmichel9207
@jeanmichel9207 2 жыл бұрын
He just follow the the wires for example he know the input or charger he can put it in this point or sometime you put ground to ground and inject low voltage to the + of capacitor if the the other leg is connected to ground it must be a big chemical capacitor with polarity and voltage writed it should be a voltage filter capacitor
@tarupam1paru586
@tarupam1paru586 2 жыл бұрын
👍, these buck converter circuit should have protection because once the mosfet goes bad a direct 19v will be going to the cpu, assuming the customer tried replugging that short pop 19v will be damaging the chip nad then dead, thats the common way you will destroy the device, so we must be careful , even at injecting voltages😅,

Mr. Alex, my laptop has a similar problem. It won't charge and the charger goes into protection mode. I bought another charger and this one doesn't have protection. This way I found out that 2 chips are broken because they started to get really hot. (right near the DC_IN) The problem is that I don't know where to get them from to replace them. They're shorted from ground to source: TPCA8057 1N DFN5X6-8 and AON7380_DFN3X3-8-5. What should I do? :(

I would add a paint marker spot to the replaced parts on any job so that the customer can see exactly what was replaced. Also a good reference for repeat work so that you know what you did the last time it was in the shop. You might buy one of those airplane seat cushions for your BUTT that is spot welded to your chair. I know that you spend a lot of time in that chair or "the thrown of genius" that you make all of your diagnostics in. Maybe get a treadmill for your aerobic work out to keep your brain well oxygenated. So, when you are working on something that you can't figure out, jump on the treadmill and get the blood pumping so that you can think more clearly. I do that by just taking a brisk walk. Great show today!! أعظم وأعظم

because this is how you're supposed to do it. Of all the ones before where he just abandoned them when the CPU heated up, at least some of them could've been fixed just like this. I don't know why he didn't do this before, just trying to save time I guess
@rajatdixit007
@rajatdixit007 2 жыл бұрын
@@danandrei96 I guess CPU side MOSFET fixes are usually tricky and you cannot really inject too much voltage i.e you will most likely burn the CPU rather than fix the circuit at that point.

I’d have to watch his videos on the laptops to confirm but typically when a CPU is still short, after you remove the upstream problem, the CPU is usually dead. Or, when you can’t find another problem upstream of the cpu, then the cpu is the problem

Did this actually work afterwards? I just performed this same repair and afterwards I had the 2-1 flash code indicating bad processor. After searching around, I found this video and saw you do exactly what I did and get the exact same results, but then the video ended without showing the thing actually working. So I'm interested to hear if this actually worked after replacing the SiC632 IC or if you successfully fixed the short - as I did - but found later that the computer itself was destroyed. Thank you!
