It's not rare in many laptops. However, it is a lot more common in the Dell G3 15. I contacted Dell support and they confirmed this was a design issue, because right in front of the hinges there's a heat vent exhaust and it weakens the parts that hold the hinges.

The battery just has to be unplugged, no need to remove. The heatsink probably not
