Thank you for keeping the video up even though you found the mistake. I was installing new memory on my wife's laptop and this told me why it wasnt recognizing the new memory i put in.

I work with a lot of 1545's. The top memory slot is a little difficult to see, but when you slotted in your RAM stick there was no resistance when pushing it down, so I believe you totally missed the RAM slot. I would like to add that before handling any bare computer hardware, it is wise to ground yourself to protect static in your body damaging the new equipment, if you don't have a static strap, perhaps touch a radiator o remove as much static from your body.

I'm so sick of getting two different answers. My local PC places(Best Buy & Ribbit Computers) told me today that the 1545's can't be upgraded from 4GB to 8GB of RAM even though it's a 64 bit laptop. I called Crucial.com and they told me it could. How tf are we none educated people supposed to figure this out. Even my own research comes up the same yes/no results. Great video BTW

Sig Shooter thank you for sharing this update ... So you easily updated to 8 GB DDR2 just like in this video ? Or was there any further technicality involved ?

Thanks for your video so well explained. My Sister's lappy won't get up from sleep and I have tried different things and still not working. I will now try reseating the ram as one blog suggested. If you have any suggestion to this matter, it will be greatly appreciated since she needs the computer for College. Blessings from the Universe! :o)

my dell 1545 running lacky now , any here know if i upgrade it with ( intel Core 2 Duo P9700 2.8GHZ and 4BG Rams ) will it speed up my Laptop or i have to go to Best Buy and buy New Laptop ?

What was the mistake? lol, The computer seemed to boot up fine, either that or it just booted up without any RAM at all...

If you notice about 5:00-5:06 you can look at the teeth edge of the memory. Now look at the memory chips in relationship to the plastic memory holder of the laptop, notice how the left side is slightly higher than the right side of chips? That is why the memory did not register. If that stick had been properly seated it would have recognized the extra memory and reported it and requested the F1 key be pressed. In this case it was far enough out that it didnt even register an error :( insert fail here :). So after I shot the video I fixed it. :) Remember stuff happens who cares as long as it works when your done thats what matters most. Thank you very much for watching my video. Dan.

Hi there i want to also upgarde my memory on my Inspiron 1545. I need DDR2 but is the clock speed important? I mean RAM for sale online has differenr speeds? Can you give me some advice on the speed of RAM. For 200pin DDR2 which memory module should i buy??? PC2-8500 OR PC2-6400 OR PC2-5300 etc.... There are quite a few. Slightly confused on which to buy?

Is this true? That the Dell Inspiron 1545 can take 16GB of RAM?...that would be awesome!...My Mom's laptop is a 1545 but its slow...and currently has 4GB....but if I can get 16GB in there? I imagine her machine would run a great deal faster. Where would one find 2 8GB chips in the "2"....(as opposed to the DDR3) version?
