this laptop has some pretty neat specs and this is the first time I'm hearing about this model. everyone is so hyped about the xps laptops, but this i5578 is above average I think and reasonably priced

I own this laptop and it a great product. Super fast. never lagged. starts up in less than 5 sec. the only thing that is kind of annoying is its display. The colours are average (not bad in any way though, they just are not that crisp). Also, the screen is very glossy, which reflects a lot (maybe its made this way due to the touch feature). I am not a fan of touch screen, but this laptop provided awesome configuration for a reasonable price so I went for it and I am not disappointed.

Shubham Sood how much did you buy it for? Xps just beats every other laptop at its display right? My classmate brings his xps to class everyday and i just keep on staring at that display

I bought it for around 920 usd. But that was in aug last year. Its display is in no way better than the xps, but unless you have a great eye for details, you won't even notice the subtle shortcomings in 5578's display. great value for money

Thanks for this video, I get this laptop recently and it seems like the Fan works with high speed because of the device overheating and make a lot of annoying noise I've updated drivers but the problem still exists, please let me know if you have faced this kind of issues or any suggestions about the solution. Fresh Aguacate over time it got pretty rough. After 5 years of heavy usage it now dies within an hour. Still love the laptop, I definitely could have taken better care of it

I use a "Brother" printer printer. But most Brother, HP, and Epson printers should be compatible with this laptop.

Bought mine in 2014 and shes still running! A little slow and the touchpad and touchscreen isnt that great but still runs and does everything just fine

I used a regular Canon lens. I just may have been very zoomed in when the elongated images appeared.

Yes, that is correct it does have an internal fan. I would say it's about the same as most other laptops. For most activities and web browsing it does not get that hot. Only during intense gaming has it been noticeably warmer than its average state.

Yes I've been using this laptop with Audacity for recording audio just fine. The more important factor though is getting a good USB studio mic to use with your laptop 👍

This model is the Dell Inspiron i5578. The battery is rated to last for 6 hours on average. I have experienced about 6-7 hours.

I have this laptop and I enjoyusing the laptop, as it runs smoothly, and is easy to use, however I have had an issue with the mic any time I record a video. The main issue I have with my laptop is that when I use the built-in mic and webcam my audio cuts in and out. I will be talking in a normal tone and volume when i record the video. However when I play it back, the audio will go from high to barely a whisper or sounding muffled.. it sounds like the mic is covered almost. Also the fan in the background causes a loud humming sound that is often present. Have you had these issues as well? I really dont know how to solve this :(

Hi Anita. Built-in microphones on most laptops are not great for audio quality. Does your webcam have a built-in mic you can use instead? It might record better audio quality. If you can, even a nice budget-friendly USB mic like the blue snowball ice can dramatically improve the audio quality in comparison to a laptop's internal mic.

Solve this by getting a USB mic instead of using the inline mic/speaker jack. Add a USB hub to extend the availability of USB ports.

The combo i7 8th gen, UHD 620, 16gb RAM, 512 SSD is a pretty common combo at 2in1 segment. So what are de differences between inspiron and XPS lines?? plastic vs aluminum, thuntherbolt, sometimes 4k screen, and thats it right?? so not reallly too much difference?

When you describe build quality of a laptop please always mention the building material of a laptop whether it's plastic or metal.... always!... because it makes big difference.

+Sidrah Bilal yes, the hinges are extremely durable. I've only had mine for a few months but I feel it could last for years with regular daily use. There is definitely some built-in tension in the hinges so they are not loose at all. I think this will help them last longer.

I have the same exact laptop, everything about it is great except you're definitely going to notice that there is a typical hdd in it instead of an ssd, which in my opinion, is kind've necessary in late 2018, not to mention that the battery isn't "commercially" replaceable.

I definitely think it is still a very dependable laptop for everyday tasks such as web browsing, multitasking, typing documents, watching videos, and light gaming. For more graphic intensive gaming or video editing you may want to consider a higher model 👍

Thanks Man, really appreciate the review! We almost bought this model. Unfortunately after noticing the IPS screen only produces 220 Nits and has a low color gamut made this a “hard pass”. Not good for working outdoors.

The specs list on B&H says it's a TN display and not IPS. Is that true? It's a shame if true...Deal breaker for me, but hoping the specs listed are wrong. Thanks and nice review...

Oh I didn't know B&H sold laptops. Mine has an IPS Touch Display. But if it's a different model on B&H those specs might be true. Maybe you could double check if there are some reviews on the B&H site where users mentioned if it was TN or IPS.

Ronald Lamarre 1 second ago I purchased an Inspiron 15 5000 in Feb of this year. Right out the box I started noticing static sound when playing media. When it started to get bad in a month i contacted dell, it was too late to return it, so I proceeded with tech support. They tried but issue got worst. Shipped it to dell for repair, within a month started again and i complained. I myself repair pc's as a hobby at home, but the laptop is under warranty. I knew that the sound card was corrupt and the only way to repair it was to change the motherboard because it’s onboard. Well, I shipped it back and I was told the motherboard needs to be changed, REALLY! I have to pay 360 dollars for repair. OH YEAH, the issue started from the very beginning, they refuse to honor the warranty, if it was the optical drive or hard drive, it's ok, but the entire system not a chance. My family have bought dell before but now this takes the cake. Beware buyers, if they need to change the motherboard your out of luck, support will find all kind of excuses, WON’T HONOR THE FREEKING WARRANTY. Dell sold me a LEMON and they know it. DO NOT BUY T HIS MODEL OR STAY AWAY FROM DELL.

Good to know. We get ripped off everywhere you turn anymore. Doesn't matter the brand name or company. I was getting ready to buy this at $349 but after reading this I'll pass.

I think that sounds like a very good deal for the price. I have not seen a better Dell laptop deal for under $600 today. If it is a Black Friday sale and you need a new laptop I would definitely consider taking advantage of the sale. This weekend is the best time of year to get good deal on laptops and computers.
