Jay's first impressions with the Dell U2724DE (Thunderbolt) 27" QHD Monitor and Dell U2724D 27" QHD Monitor
A couple of main points:
1: Thunderbolt Dock on the Dell U2724DE Monitor
The U2724DE has a built in Thunderbolt docking station, which should allow you to plug all your peripherals into your monitor and remove the need for a docking station.
2: Daisy Chaining Monitors Together
The U2724DE allows for daisy chaining into it, meaning you do not need to purchase two U2724DE and can purchase one U2724DE and one U2724D.
Whilst I prefer running two 4K Monitors (Dell U2723QE) the Dell U2724DE and U2724D is a good option for business use.

I got the U2724DE as main monitor and daisy chain to U2424HE via thunderbolt 4 cable. Happy with the setup. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the great video. Does the kvm feature wake the monitor when connected laptop is sleeps (using the connected keyboard I mean)? A lot of kvm monitors lack this basic feature. Was curious if it's the case with this one or not.

They're only 1440p. 100% scaling only.

Where are the First Impressions? you talked for 4 min only about Thunderbolt missing with the D version, that's it. it could've been 10 sec video. What about the IPS black contrast? color? ghosting? IPS glow, comparing it to your old monitor etc.. Please make another video about the features I mentioned.

Hi, for the U2724D model without the USB Hub, can the USB-C upstream (data-only) be used to connect to macbook pro to use the monitor?

Did you have to do anything to make the usb-ports work? When connecting through thunderbolt or even with the usb-c upstream cable, none of my downstream usb ports seem to function when I for example hook up my mouse etc... ? (I'm on ubuntu 18.04 btw so it might be driver issue) Same with daisy chaining - when I hook up the displayport for daisy chaining into the other monitor, it says cannot detect thunderbolt signal - and actually the same when using the displayport on the laptop as well...

ok so got it working like this: - laptop thunderbolt -> u2724de - laptop usb-a out -> u2724de usb-c upstream - daisy chaining from thunderbolt out with usb-c converter into a displayport cable into displayport of the external monitor (dell u2711) Not sure why the normal displayport out wasn't working, maybe it's not the right displayport cable...

so daisy chaining also works if I connect my laptop usb-c (tb3) with a dp converter and then into the dp of the monitor, and then just the dp port out for the 3rd monitor. Also the usb ports should work normally with just thunderbolt, but for some reason they don't and I have to use the usb-a to usb-c into the monitor, but then it's not always recognising the usb-c in when I use thunderbolt... so I have the feeling the thunderbolt of my laptop isn't really working properly with the monitor.

How does it compare to U2723QE? - The lack of 4k, is it noticeable at this resolution? I've only ever used 1440p in 27inch, and I'm trying to gauge the importance of 4k (mostly for programming, but also gaming & media consumption). - How are reflections? U2723QE and the 32inch variant had awful reflections - one of the worst monitors out there. Did they improve this? - Is the high refresh rate noticeable when working (not gaming)? Does everything seem "smoother" or would you say it's largely unnoticeable? Thanks!

Hi @gajop, answers to your questions below: - 4K difference is not noticeable at all. - Reflections are improved compared to the U27/U32 - The higher refresh rate isn't noticeable unless your gaming.

What about Black color levels? Why you didnt any test with new IPS deep black colors 2000:1 ?

We are planning on shooting a video today that shows the difference between a U2723QE and the U2724DE. Specifically, we are planning on testing the deep blacks and the 120hz refresh rate. Please let me know if there is anything else you want us to test and show on the video.

These are IPS Black and 120Hz right? How is the contrast compared to previous models? And how smooth do they feel? Are they good for gaming?

On first impression they feel very similar to the existing range of UltraSharp monitors. I have not done any gaming with it, however I'll do some further testing this week and put another video up.

Hi, I just bought those monitors and it looks like chaining doesn’t work with my intel MacBook Pro 16”. Those are not supported by macOS ?

Hi I solved the problem, it is so easy but no one can explain it easy. You need active adapter or cable and it works. On the back also you connect to sealed port (the ones that comes with red plastic) and works perfectly.

Any active adapter. For example caldigit. Or active cable - the signal has to be allowed go both ways.

@RonaRigs: I am using M2 pro Macbook pro and planning to buy a monitor for work (software engineering/coding) & media consumption. Lot of ppl recommend U2723QE, but for couple of reasons I feel this display (U2724D/U2724DE) might be better: Reason 1: mac OS scaling might be better at 27" 1440p Reason 2: 120 Hz refresh rate would be seamless b/w my mac and this display Which one would you recommend? 1. U2724DE 2. U2723QE 3. U2724D (Would ports in this display sufficient to charge M2 Mac pro or Am I better off with 1 or 2?)

LG C3 42" on sale I'll say it's a good option as a monitor, the fonts with WRBG at 4K still look better than 1440p, if you're coding the black ink black background will probably help eye strain, it has more space for opened windows, and when you're done the HDR will blow your mind watching videos or gaming. so these monitors I only recommend them if you're in a budget and maybe when they're on sale around $300

i have a 1440p and a 4k both 27 inch. Just get a 4k panel for macos. You can see how much sharper that is! i am always disappointed with 1440p

I use dell s2722QC and also tried the 1440p version. Both tested with MB Pro Intel i9 and PC. Both great for coding. I would not buy bigger , as it is too big for coding 4 me ( used dell 32 4k screen which right now is with my mom :D ).

Is it possible to attach the Laptop to the 2724DE and daisy Chaining it to the 2723QE in Order to have the best of both worlds ? 4 k 60hz and 2k 120hz. Or is that not possible through one thunderbold cable ?

Yes, we tested a DP between the two monitors and 1 thunderbolt cable connected into the laptop. I can confirm that we ran 60HZ 4K on the U2723QE and 120hz 2k on the U2724DE

@@RonaRigs Perfect ! Thanks for the Reply. May I ask what laptop you connected ? I imagine it has also some limitation based on the grafical unit. I am not sure if my Lenovo X1 Carbon can sustain that. Since it ony has a Intel (R) Xe Graphics. Not sure how i check if it supports a total of 6K output

Furthermore to this, I also attempted to do this using a USB-C cable between the two monitors and it will not run at 120hz. You need to use a DP Cable!

Did you ever go with this setup? It's exactly what I am about to order after extensive research into how to get a clean and functional dual monitor setup that works on my windows work laptop and MBP without spending a fortune.

The U2724DE can be daisy chained for Mac and Windows.

Huge thanks for your fantastic review, I'm totally sold and planning to grab either the D or DE, but there are few things holding me back . For DE Version: 1. Can you turn off charging over the Thunderbolt cable, or is it always on? 2. My laptop's a Lenovo P15 with a 150W charger. Will it charge slower through the monitor's 90W Thunderbolt, or just not at all? Now, for the D version: If I use HDMI or DP for video, can I connect a mouse, keyboard, and headphones to the monitor's USB ports, then use one USB cable to connect them all to my laptop? (Asking because my current monitor has this cool setup). For context, my current ThinkVision has 4 USB ports and an audio jack. I've got keyboard, mouse, speakers, and phone charging/data plugged in, with one HDMI and one USB cable going to my laptop. When my wife uses it, she just swaps in her DP cable and uses the same USB cable. Really appreciate your time and help! Your answers will make all the difference in my decision.

Hi there, I have quick question if you know best alternative solution at this price grade for aw2724dm that supports everythings as this one but have speakers since I am connecting ps5, pc and macbook 😅

Hmm, not an easy answer, most monitors do not come with built-in speakers, and the ones built in are fairly average. Why don't you check out the Dell sound bar SB521A?

@@stefandespotovic2881 Both monitors have an audio output (3.5mm) which you can use to connect speakers to it. Dell support unfortunately often never uses or tests their products!

I'm getting by BLK Friday DELL XPS G13/i9 W/11 , looking for 4K 32 inch or bit bigger Monitor, not a gamer guy ..but care about pic quality pops /blks & HDR & of course sharp clean in text this is looks nice

It will likely work, however if your MBP doesn't support Thunderbolt it will likely have a downgraded through-put.
