Dragons' Den

4 жыл бұрын

Robel Iyassu enters The Den seeking £75,000 for a return equity stake of 7.5%. 'Boun Beans' pride themselves on their coffee grade rating, ranking it amongst the best 1% in the world. Peter Jones kicks off the praise when he says "I've not drank coffee quite as good as this before." but the fine tasting coffee isn't the only factor of a successful coffee roastery...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Most of the time this is indeed probably laughable, but you can’t possibly know if it actually is without looking at the balance sheet of the company. Could have plenty of assets and/or cash in bank but be turning over a tiny amount or even running at a loss, which is not uncommon for a new business. I find that part quite interesting in this show when they criticise them for the valuation even though they can’t see a balance sheet

He isn’t Starbucks. Starbucks is THE status symbol when it comes to coffee. There’s a million other niche coffee shops that do will but will never compare. They go nuts because people look at apple/Starbucks as an example when it’s unrealistic. Apple/Starbucks got into their markets early and capitalized on the luxury tag before other did. Sure, competitors can always spring up, but how likely are they to actually cause a dent?

It's about the evaluation and the overall market. This is an extremely saturated market and he is more than likely getting diluted within the market resulting in failure. Companies spend millions to get a tiny share of the coffee industry and still fail. No magical stirring technique will make this a 1 million dollar business. He will probably make some money to live off of, but becoming big ? No way.
