You said that only non-required fields can be hidden. Not true. You can hide required fields. You won't want to hide such a field before filling it however. For a required field that never appears in the actual records, the first entry, then copy down to fill all the entries with blanks, then hide the field. It is also useful to note that if you have hidden fields when you close a batch, the next batch you open from that same project will start with those same fields hidden, which can cause some consternation if you don't remember that you have hidden fields from the last time you did a batch in that project.
