@Marlin Williams the empire term refers to "colonialism" as how USA abuse/exploit other (developing) countries for their resources to enrich their domestic corporations and/or individuals, like European empires before ww1. That's masqueraded as "foreign aid", direct action by US military and/or CIA or just monetary domination through institutions such as IMF which dictates the rules societies under crisis from heavy economic stress has to implement or suffer, which they would be better off of in the long run rather than the damage caused by neoliberal policies will cause for the society

Yes there was. Goldman Sachs was very nervous when Bernie Sanders almost won. There were dozens of things that a Sanders administration could have done against Goldman Sach and the company knew it. This is why I don't respect Hedges, because he told everyone that the candidate who ran on breaking up the big banks was a fraud and not to work to get him elected. If Sanders wasn't good enough for Hedges, then I can't imagine a candidate who would be.

I think Nick did a very good job as well. I must say I was very impressed with his passion. And of course Marianne. I saw a lot of Jox complaining about how long she went on but, she's very knowledgeable and worth being patient and listening to. I thought that's a visit from Jesse was poignant. I would like to have seen someone spend more time collectively however, maybe at the end of the convention, taking the time out to discuss what it's like to cooperate together despite certain differences such as what Jesse pointed out. It's so easy to give up just because there isn't an exact match for us all, politically. What we really needed in closing was someone that helps to explain what it's like to stick together on basic issues... something that we can all agree upon. As much as I enjoy Miss Turner's packing, I didn't like the way they convention ended because I felt that key opportunities were missed such as what I'm pointing out here. But still, yeah there were a lot of great speakers yesterday... and of course, Chris Hedges!

@@walden6272 Social science research shows that there is a much better chance of avoiding eventual authoritarian rule and fascism if demonstrations can hold to a non-violent approach. As Hedges has noted elsewhere, there will have to be a small group of people with "divine madness" willing to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary on the front lines. One of the ways a movement grows is when people see others being mistreated for holding to values that they also share.

I was the One people Guilted as a 6 & 7 year old for knowing it was Abusive, Unhealthy and the people didn't get to Thrive, we weren't mean to Self Actualize. "You gotta roof over your head, clothes on your back". You were trained to be "happy" with the low bar instead of reaching your healthy potential. The public should have been fighting back decades ago but they trained themselves to be "happy" instead. It wasn't the PTB doing it,, it was "family", Neighbors. When you sell health for a paycheck instead of being a Real Adult,, this is what happens.

They've all been systematically indoctrinated, dumbed-down, fed hedonistic consumerist garbage, and countless other ploys. All by design to keep the lie going, and keep the bloodsuckers at the helm of a ill-fated sunken ship. The masses in general are typically to stupid to realize they are stupid. Dunning-Kruger Syndrome is rampant all intentionally thanks to government, corporations, and the rich elites. A willfully ignorant people are easy to stick in a field like cattle to fatten up, and be bled dry. Then shipped out to the slaugherhouse once they finally expire, then replaced en mass. Easy to control, manipulate, deceive, string along a cliff blindly and obediently without question. They'll even thank this so called institutional establishment of a socially constructed society for it...all This happens at home, family, relatives, friends, any standard member of society, so called education system, work places etc. Pretty much everywhere you go or look they are brainwashed, and they do the brainwashing for the rest. Once they've gotten it down to this just being born ensures you'll be subjected to their mercy. Which is exactly why children have it so bad, it keeps getting worse yet. By the time they hit 18 they will have been churned out from this machine of social conditioning into a good little sheeple. It takes years to break free if you do, and undo the damage of education system alone...

Most jobs won't even allow you to work a 2nd job, let alone work around each other in order to be able to work both. Even with 3 jobs you can very much so still be struggling. At that point you'll end up just slaving away 24/7 until you grow old and die. Having done nothing but further enrich the master, for fear of the lash. Toiling away endlessly in the masters fields until they discard you, or death takes you. In essence you essentially didn't live at all, but were wasted away gradually in the pursuit of life. A life you were robbed of , deprived, denied up until the very end. Through no fault of your own imposed upon you by force, and necessity. The only crime you've committed is having been born, which you didn't even have any choice in the matter.

I studied abusive relationships al my life due to it. people made abuse and dysfunctional relationships "normal". THey had the mentality, that "there's Nothing you can do". And silenced /shamed the youth for being smarter and more courageous than the "Adults". Capitalism Normalized abuse and the Public went along with it for decades. Paying people what they produce Is how a HEALTHY system functions,, like a Healthy Family would function,, Raising people up, teaching people the Value of a dollar. Social interest is self interest. The best way for a society to function to operate in their own self interest AND understand that the society benefitting benefits themselves. Chris Hedges is fascinating to me because he doesn't miss a beat or pander, he stands firm on his revolutionary tradition and his leftist views, all the while treating the masses like humans, not as labels. He sees hurt and injustice anywhere, and calls it out, he does not emphasize anyone over others, thus he understands pain more. The result is that he wins over many ostensibly "right wing" or people who think they are conservative, he RELATES rather than talking "down", and he sympathizes rather than acting like a psychopath to "be tolerant". He educates and indeed speaks to people who ultralefts on Twitter pretend are too far gone to even talk to. When you assume anyone "white", "trump voting" "right wing" or whatever will never reply to the ideology that empowers _them_ against the elite they hate and who should be hated (Socialism), then no wonder they take to right wing opinions. - "We must re-integrate them". He is the only one I have seen able to do this, and that is something I am really trying to learn.

I am from Denmark. I believe that the banks will find a way to get their money back. What we need is a public government owned bank so that people have a choice. V ery few Danes shop around to find the cheapest bank, and rates are very complicated and rarely comparable from bank to bank. Changing bank can be a real hustle, and you will be threatened with all kinds of fees. I love your show. Mette Frederiksen's initiative, although positive, will however not help very much as the retirement age is set to rise for everybody. in a few years reaching 72, and eventually more.

Chris Hedges is one of the shining lights of truth to power. Long may his fierce intellect and empathy for those afflicted by despair, those tramelled by the worst excesses of the US corporate state, those incarcerated in the for profit prison complex, those disempowered by the corporate state be uplifted. His prophetic analyses have come to pass. The Richistanis cannot argue with this man who exposes their hypocracies. He is one of the greatest and believable critics of these elites, they fear him because he exposes their vassal empty rhetoric with the power of argument and understanding; full of learning and lived experience. He is a Lion heart exposing the greed corruption and rot which lies with so many who use power to loot from the citizenry, who weild power to subjugate or indulge in death through initiating conflict/wars over reason to solve disagreements. A man of immense integrity, courage and heart. Long may you continue to fight the good fight Chris. You are a shining light and your books/works/words are truly inspiring.

However, that does not make him a soothsayer or profit. He is a journalist with well-established opinions based on HIS experiences. I find him refreshing but I do not bow to him as some do. His perspective is NOT without bias, please remember that. All that being said, he’s damn good and I agree with much of what he’s says, not ALL of what he says. I wonder even where you find there to be an inch of intellectual integrity with such a narrow minded view. It would be the equivalent of me thinking all who side with neoconservatives and Republicans are the same as Richard Spencer’s brand of white nationalists. Are they? No so then what makes you think the left are singular? Sorry to burst your groupthink bubble but there are leftists who condemn the politically correct identity circus , condemn virtually any singular struggle that isn’t willing to centralize their position on corporatism but ...
