Жыл бұрын

This year marks 100 years since the birth of the historian Howard Zinn. In 1980, Zinn published his classic work, "A People's History of the United States." The book would go on to sell over a million copies and change the way many look at history in America. We begin today's special with highlights from a production of Howard Zinn's "Voices of a People's History of the United States," where Zinn introduced dramatic readings from history. We hear Alfre Woodard read the words of labor activist Mother Jones and Howard' son Jeff Zinn read the words of an IWW poet and organizer Arturo Giovannitti.
Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday. Watch our livestream at democracynow.org Mondays to Fridays 8-9 a.m. ET.

Informative exposition of historical note and facts. Jurisprudence is broad subject matter of antiquities. Facts and fictions in a world strangely mixed. Fictions resemble facts. Facts resemble fiction.

The US foreign policies are dictated by corporate America. We want to dominate large parts of the globe and extend white supremacy in the process. This is why our government assassinate leaders, destabilize governments, suppress wages and the price of commodities.

@@josephwheeler8753 A great example IMO, would be what is happening to the railroad unions as we speak. Biden and the Congress will play to the big money instead of the workers. The workers make it possible for the railroad to profit with billions while the owners bribe the politicians to make sure it continues. I remember well, what Reagan did to the Air Traffic controllers. The railroad workers should tell the Congress and Biden, to go pound sand. Sadly, I know this won't happen.
@josephwheeler8753

@@patrickvanmeter2922 If the strike is allowed, then the MAGA crowd will spend months whining over the economy. Biden is the President. He's not new to this. He has smart advisers around him to help guide policy. Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers who went on strike, and the Conservatives thought he was sent by the gods. Biden is doing it right. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet.
@patrickvanmeter2922
@patrickvanmeter2922 Жыл бұрын
@@josephwheeler8753 I'm all for Biden stopping a strike temporarily. What I don't like is the Gov't getting involved with the negotiations. The Railroad industry made over 31 billion in profits last year. Seems to me the very least they could do is come up with some sick leave. 24% increase in wages is fine but money won't keep you from getting sick. To me, it is almost like a conflict of interest for Biden to take sides. There was no doubt who his choice would be. There is only one loser, and it is always the little guy. I was with Biden until he did this.

A brilliant man with a conscience. If we teach our young people anything, we should teach them how to be aware of the consequences of their actions before they act. To have a conscience is a tool to be able to see into the future. And, if we truly want that beautiful future, that "new world" of which we dream, we must have the tool to conceive of it first. C.G.Jung spoke of the "Collective Unconscious", an innate tool which all humanity shares. Howard Zinn also spoke of something which we all share, "The Collective Conscience". Unfortunately, some of us have been keeping it locked away in a tiny box in the recesses of our minds, so as not to interfere with "Progress". The future belongs to the youth of the world, and our greatest gift, our legacy to them would be to teach them how to open and access this wonderful tool. Thank you Howard Zinn.

What a fabulous professor, historian, writer and human. We must have more thinkers like him in our world. 2022 we should not have wars to settle disputes. To imagine a world where we used that money for peace keeping and to lift up our fellow world citizens instead of murdering, torturing and blowing up the homes they live?????? Leaders that are unwilling or unable to communicate, compromise and unable to see the children and families as the helpless and caught in the middle of conflict shouldn’t be in power anywhere in our world.

I agree with Mr.Zinn that we teach our children the truth always so we do not feed our children with lies and brainwashing that have negative effects on the development of their character which is sometimes difficult to change with the Truth when they grow up and are already indoctrinated with resulting mentally enslaved minds. The Truth always sets one truly free. It takes a heart full of true love, courage and Godliness to think as he does and to speak freely, unapologetically and and courageously what the Spirit of God has put in his heart; and thus has a profound effect on the mindset of others for the better.
