It's a slow burn on the net and the tv news still hasn't caught up with the loss of one of very best! RIP Denny. Much missed!

All the haters don't get this album. It was never intended to be a high resolution masterpiece. Having been a Buddy Holly fan forever this record really captures the charm and vibe of those old records. As a musician I consider this what playing music is all about. Having a great time and making happy sounds. There is nothing to think about here.

This album also shows how important musical playmates Denny and Paul (and Linda) were for so many years.... In fact the 3 had a very special thing together... Very interesting on all levels....

This is simply GREAT...... Great vibe great songs and fun arrangements..... Great lead vocals and as always multi instruments by Denny.... Great harmonies and musical inspiration by Paul and Linda.... Totally overlooked gem.... With some more promotion this would have made a mu h larger impact.... The songs suits really Denny so well....

Even if I liked Denny Laine with Wings, I am not impressed at all by this stuff. I am even surprised that people speak of a "gem". Laine and McCartney have made music that is a lot more worth to listen to. It could be forgotten.

I didn't realize Denny Laine had such a nice voice. I mean he did good jobs on "Go Now" and the few Wings songs he sang, but he sounds really good here. Also, the sound of Moondreams reminds me of the Hollies' "Air That I Breath".

Denny laine, Paul & Linda McCartney - Holly Days (Full Album) - Holly Days is the second album by guitarist Denny Laine, released in 1977. It was recorded by him with fellow Wings members Paul and Linda McCartney. The album is a tribute to singer-songwriter Buddy Holly and comprises eleven cover versions of songs by Holly, most of them lesser-known.On the four-track recorder Paul McCartney laid down the basic tracks, overdubbing each instrumental himself. Denny Laine and Linda McCartney added some instrumental parts and all three joined in on the vocals; Denny singing lead and Paul and Linda harmonising.[2] Paul, via MPL Communications, had recently bought the publishing rights to Holly's catalogue,[3] and - Laine told the press at the time - it was McCartney's father-in-law, John Eastman, who suggested Laine to record the album.[4] Due to the rudimentary recording methods used to capture the "Buddy Holly style", only tracks 2 and 3 are actually in stereo. Track listing Side one "Heartbeat" (Bob Montgomery, Norman Petty) - 2:37 "Moondreams" (Petty) - 2:41 "Rave On" (Sonny West, Bill Tilghman, Petty) - 1:53 "I'm Gonna Love You Too" (Joe Mauldin, Niki Sullivan, Petty) - 2:15 "Fool's Paradise" (Sonny Le Claire, Horace Linsley, Petty) - 2:46 "Lonesome Tears (Instrumental)" (Buddy Holly) - 3:05 Side two "It's So Easy"/"Listen to Me" (Holly, Petty/Charles Hardin, Petty) - 3:47 "Look at Me" (Petty, Holly, Jerry Allison) - 3:10 "Take Your Time" (Holly, Petty) - 3:38 "I'm Looking for Someone to Love (Instrumental)" (Holly, Petty) - 3:57 - - - - - - - - - Personnel - - Denny Laine - guitars, vocals Paul McCartney - guitars, bass guitar, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, organ, drums, drum machine, backing vocals Linda McCartney - keyboards, backing vocals

I think Paul should remaster this record, for the fact that it's mostly by him, and because there is some intresting stuff going on in it. The first four tracks are really good, with those drum machines they were still kind of unusual and maybe innovative for 1976. The last two tracks are also particularly enjoyable. Wonder why Paul didn't release this record under the name "Wings", since it features the three core members of the group.
@jamesdaughton8017 Жыл бұрын
Denny did the singing because Paul, as the producer, felt Denny had a better voice to represent Holly. Yes, it has all three, but at the time, Paul was giving Denny more recognition.

Love Denny and Wings but this is the laziest "album" ever made. Not a single original song, it's full of drum machines, was probably produced in 15 minutes altogether, and the sessions were probably 90% pot smoking with the McCartneys and 10% actual music...
